From Oakhurst, Calif., a small mountain town where in 1958 the signal from KMJ in Fresno reached my bulky transistor radio and saved me from four hours of boredom each summer day. I grudgingly missed any broadcast. I was listening when McCovey first hit. Saw my first live major league game in 1959 in the LA Coliseum, where the Dodgers beat the Cards 5-3, in spite of Musial's two hits. Since no one but my grandparents in LA were interested in taking me to a game, I first saw the Giants on the opening day of Anaheim Stadium, the Big A, in 1965. It was a pre-season series of three games against the Angels. Mays hit two homers, both to rightcenter.
Lived in LA for nearly 20 years. Now a high school teacher in Sacramento. (Yes, it's John Bowker's former school; no, he was never my student, though his sister was in two of my classes.) Father of Alex_Lewis. Content to lurk and respond to blogs. Not sure I'll be able to watch and post, but stay tuned.
