Crane To Cut Payroll...A Lot!
Heyman tweets new Astros ownership wants to cut payroll to $60MM.
Yikes....
Adam Wainwright is heading back to St. Louis to have his right elbow examined, and right now the team expects the worst. "I can say just based on the initial evaluation from our training staff, things do not look encouraging," said GM John Mozeliak according to Derrick Goold of The St. Louis Post-Dispatch. ESPN's Buster Olney says (on Twitter) that it appears the team is expecting their ace to have Tommy John surgery, which would keep him out for all of 2011.
*I don't see how more people can't recognize the correlation between poor mechanics and serious arm injuries.
Bagwell Bringin' The Bats
I mentioned this in one of the game threads the other day and after tonight's come from behind nine run win over a strong Cardinal team it may be time to discuss Baggy's impact.
Astros - Phils Close To A Deal?
Apparently, with the Phils dealing with rotation issues, they are in the hunt for a front line starter. Rumor has it that Roy is leading that charge.
Other rumors note Philly is trying to unload Werth and Happ. Phils Gm "hinted" that they might strike some deal by this Saturday.
"I don't like the Cubs," Votto said. "And I'm not going to pat anybody with a Cubs uniform on the back. But because he made that really cool play, it turned out to be a really cool experience. I'm really glad we got the win today."
Need 3 For Fantasy League
I've run the same fantasy league for the last couple years, this year we had 3 managers bail. The live online draft is Sunday March 14 at 4:00pm EST using Yahoo's platform. The league is pretty knowledgeable but laid back at the same time. No money needed to play.
It's a ten team head to head league using: R,HR,RBI,SB,AVG,XBH - W,SV,K,WHIP,ERA,QS
Any interest plz let me know here.
*Not trying to steal any managers away from the SBNation league here.
Baseball America Interview: Jason Castro
Haven't seen this posted yet, if I missed it somewhere, I apologize.
-
Mark (Chicago): What areas of your game do you think you need to work on the most before you are ready to take the next step to the major leagues?
Jason Castro: For the most part I feel that I just need to continue to get repetitions behind the plate this spring and continue to refine the subtleties of catching. In addition, continuing to gain the trust and build working relationships with the pitching staff in order to work more efficiently on the field.
-
Mark (Chicago): What do you feel you need to do in spring training to win the starting catching job for Houston?
Jason Castro: Similarly to the previous question just continuing to get comfortable behind the plate this spring, working with the pitchers and getting to know each one of their games, and continuing to make adjustments at the plate to put myself in the best place to have success.
Pitching Mechanics/Terms To Look/Listen For
Pitching mechanics have always been very interesting to me, and as a former pitcher I've paid much attention to the implications of pitching a certain way vs another. After much research and personal experience, these are the things that are of note when watching/listening to a ballgame.
(Warning, lots of pics after the jump)

What The Fukudome Is Going On ?
Small article about Fukudome's early starts and downward trends.
Evolution of Wandy
An interesting article written about Wandy in regards to his late start, his non-change in velocity and improvement year after year. Basically, how he has gone from a nobody to a really, really good pitcher in a few years.
