I'm a hockey fan since I discovered the game in college. I graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1979, where I was able to see Ron Mason coached hockey teams that featured Olympic gold medalist, and NY Islander great Ken Morrow. The Falcons of the last half of the 70's played a gritty, in your face style hockey, that is still the way I prefer to see the game played.
I am also a big fan of the art of fighting in hockey. I am dismayed that the league has moved further and further away from fighting in the last few years. Hockey players should be able to police the ice themselves and make players answer for liberties taken on themselves or teammates. Unfortunately today the best fighting takes place in the developmental leagues and not in the NHL. The league risks losing it's hardcore fanbase if it relegates fighting to the backburners of the game.
