Military Veterans: What's Your Favorite Sports Memory From Deployment?
I know we've got a number of military men and women that read BTSC, and we could use your help.
Matt Ufford and the rest of SB Nation's YouTube channel are looking to honor veterans with a Memorial Day video compiled from clips of veterans talking about their favorite sports memory while deployed.
So check out the above link and if you are a veteran or if you know one, please pass this along!
Revisiting Steelers Pre-Draft Prospect Visits: Where did they end up?
We listed 30 draft prospects who visited the Steelers from out-of-state before this weekend's draft, and just about all of them were selected at some point during the draft, or were scooped up as undrafted free agents.
Along with other reports of prospect visits, this is a destination list of where each of them ended up.
Michael Bean posted the 1st round grades earlier, and here's their Day 2 recap and grades.
BTSC 2012 Community Mock Draft Pick No. 32 -- New York Giants Select Kendall Wright, WR, Baylor
We are done and the 2012 BTSC Community Mock Draft is in the books! Pittsblitz56 did say he was working on it, but the agreed time came and went so I'm stepping in again here. Next up: the real thing at 8:00 pm EDT!
By the way, take note of the cool little minute-long draft profiles from SBN NFL that are embedded with these picks. It's been Michael Bean's personal project to make these videos happen, and let us know what you think of them! -barnerburner-

First off, I want to say that if VinnySteel had not decided to go for the triple-TE threat for the Patriots, Coby Fleener absolutely would've been the pick here. Right now the New York Giants have got a bunch of guys that seem like they could all be decent role players at the TE position, but Fleener would've instantly upgraded it and given them an ultra-athletic headliner that would've made everyone better.
But no harm, no foul that Vinny picked Fleener ahead of us. We can deal with it and look back at what is still on our draft board and what value stands out.
And as we look at it, one name is standing out right now...
BTSC 2012 Community Mock Draft Pick No. 31 -- New England Patriots Select Coby Fleener, TE, Stanford
Thanks go to VinnySteel for completing his two-part turn in the mind of Bill Belichick and graciously allowing me to intrude upon his vacation. Now there's just one pick left to go! Last up: the Super Bowl Champion New York Giants and they'll be represented by Pittsblitz56.

So, here we go again... just when I thought I was done - they pull me back in! ... like Bill Parcells. (Almost.)
But this pick is really about another Bill - a Parcells disciple who has far exceeded his one-time mentor. Mr. Belichick, of course, has built much of his success through the draft, a point well emphasized by Rebecca Rollett in her piece a couple of days ago about Kevin Colbert's prowess in doing the same. Unlike the Steelers however, he has become famous for wheeling and dealing considerably, having traded down or out of the first round in each of the last five drafts - including doing so twice each in both 2009 and 2010.
BTSC 2012 Community Mock Draft Pick No. 30 -- San Francisco 49ers Select Kevin Zeitler, OG, Wisconsin
The finish line is within sight and we should be able to just squeeze these all in in time. Thanks go to c63tho for the analysis and write up here. Next up: New England Patriots (Part 2) and they'll again be represented by VinnySteel.
By the way, take note of the cool little minute-long draft profiles from SBN NFL that are embedded with these picks. It's been Michael Bean's personal project to make these videos happen, and let us know what you think of them! -barnerburner-

The San Francisco 49ers are in a very good position at the moment. They finished the season at 13-3, and were only two fumbles away from a Super Bowl appearance and a shot at a six-pack of Super Bowl titles (gasp!). Even better, however, is their outlook on the future. The league's number one runstopping defence returns all eleven starters, and the offense has reloaded with the additions of Randy Moss and Mario Manningham. With very few holes in their roster and a strong coach at the helm, the future is very bright.
BTSC 2012 Community Mock Draft Pick No. 29 -- Baltimore Ravens Select Devon Still, DT, Penn State
Thanks go to Mr MaLoR for contributing some good stuff about our very favorite (and only real) division rival. Next up: San Francisco 49ers and they'll be represented by c63tho.

********************
Heading into the 2012 draft, the Baltimore Ravens do not really have a bevy of needs that have to be addressed. Ravens director of player personnel, Eric DeCosta, even stated himself that this was a "Depth Draft" for Baltimore, entailing that we want to reload those role player spots behind our starters.
"I think this is a depth draft for the Ravens at virtually every position. We need a lot of good young players. My philosophy with the draft is we want as many picks as we can get. The draft is really all about luck, and the more picks you have, the better chance you have to get lucky. We need players at every position across the board. The more picks we have, the better chance we have to hit on a few guys. That's where we are with that."

Saints' scandal might have hurt Steelers
"Saints general manager Mickey Loomis had the ability to eavesdrop on opposing coaches during games at the Superdome for most of the 2002 season, as well as all of the 2003 and 2004 seasons. On Oct. 6, 2002, the Steelers lost in New Orleans, 32-29."
Big deal? Not a big deal?
UPDATE: The Saints have issued a statement denying all allegations. This is going to get fun.
BTSC 2012 Community Mock Draft Pick No. 28 -- Green Bay Packers Select Shea McClellin, DE/OLB, Boise State
It took me too long to make this pick. I never expected to wrestle with it for as long as I did. Just lock-and-load to second-guess and rip away. Next up: Baltimore Ravens and they'll be represented by our very favorite, Mr MaLoR.

I had a lot of trouble and did not know who to go with here for the Green Bay Packers.
I could at least narrow it down to one side of the ball - with their offense tops in the league in scoring and 3rd overall in yards per game, and their defense a below average 19th in scoring and the league's caboose at 32nd in yards per game.
Then I could look at their 29 total sacks - which tied them with the Colts, Bills, and Chiefs for the 27th worst mark in the league and the third-lowest total overall - to deduce that something disappeared from their Super Bowl-winning front seven in 2010 (47 sacks, tied for 2nd overall).
And then... I was stuck.
I mean I did make a pick to meet a deadline, but I'm still second-guessing it to a degree.
Do I go with a defensive lineman to play end in their 3-4? Or do I go with an outside linebacker to play opposite Clay Matthews?
BTSC 2012 Community Mock Draft Pick No. 27 -- New England Patriots Select Courtney Upshaw, DE/OLB, Alabama
We get to hear from someone that's not me! Thanks go to VinnySteel for fulfilling the first appearance that our friends from Foxborough will make in the 1st round this year. Next up: Green Bay Packers and they'll be represented by barnerburner (jeez... not him again).

So, as a Steelers fan representing what is likely our collective 2nd most hated franchise, I was tempted to want to spend their first round draft choice on a kicker. Any kicker. No, scratch that. I'd like them to be a really bad kicker with off-the-field substance abuse issue and suspected ties to a terrorist cell or two.
BTSC 2012 Community Mock Draft Pick No. 26 -- Houston Texans Select Stephen Hill, WR, Georgia Tech
I never heard from jacquavivajr, so I'm stepping in again here. Next up: New England Patriots, with the pick they acquired from the Saints for Mark Ingram last year, and they'll be represented by VinnySteel.

The Houston Texans have had an offseason of interesting losses, highlighted by the following:
- Mario Williams, DE - Six years for almost $100 million, $50 million guaranteed. (What can he do with that much money?) That's the open-market price for the former 1st overall pick in 2006, who can create and pace a pass rush for anyone (at least, that's what Buffalo hopes).
- DeMeco Ryans, ILB - Swapping 3rd round picks and getting a 4th rounder. That was what the Eagles had to give for a former Defensive Rookie of the Year and All-Pro that has recently had some serious injuries. Williams and Ryans (2nd round, 33rd overall pick in 2006) were two fantastic defensive building blocks for what was once an awful Texans team, and now they're both gone.
- Jason Allen, CB - The former 1st round pick by the Dolphins in 2006 was actually released by them midseason in 2010 (in what I believe was a contract year for him). The Texans immediately claimed him off waivers, and he finished out the season with them and put together a reasonably productive 2011 campaign as their No. 2 corner (4 interceptions, 45 tackles) while playing across from Johnathan Joseph, which earned Allen a two-year, $8.2 million contract from the Bengals (a year after they allowed Joseph to walk).
BTSC 2012 Community Mock Draft Pick No. 25 -- Denver Broncos Select Fletcher Cox, DT, Mississippi State
I never heard from Ram_india, so I'm stepping in again here. Next up: Houston Texans and they'll be represented by jacquavivajr.

The Denver Broncos have had an offseason of interesting acquisitions, highlighted by the following:
- Peyton Manning, QB - Five years for $96 million, $18 million guaranteed. That's the open-market price for a future Hall of Fame quarterback even after missing a season. And I'm really looking forward to 8:20 pm on Sunday, September 9.
- Joel Dreessen and Jacob Tamme, TEs - The Broncos went out and made wholesale changes to their TE unit by signing a guy that Manning is familiar with from Indy in Tamme, and a capable No. 2 option from the Texans in Dreessen. Manning's former favorite TE, Dallas Clark, is still a free agent, and rumour has it (cue the Adele?) that Clark's career may be over.
BTSC 2012 Community Mock Draft Pick No. 23 -- Detroit Lions Select Whitney Mercilus, DE, Illinois
Thanks go to JDSpartan for his look here into the revived Lions. Next up: Your Pittsburgh Steelers! And as per tradition, they'll be represented by our own maryrose!

As soon as it happened, everyone in the Detroit Lions' war room immediately dove under their desks and covered their ears - hiding from the simultaneous outcries as ESPN announced that Jonathan Martin, the somehow-underrated offensive tackle from Stanford, was about to be selected by the Cleveland Browns just one spot ahead of their pick. Matthew Stafford, chowing down at Slows BBQ in Detroit, broke down and wept as the groans of Detroiters echoed throughout the city.
"But it HURTS, guys... it just hurts SO BAD. Jeff freakin' Backus... IT HURTS!" Stafford sobbed, through bites of delicious, succulent, and tender pulled pork bathed in sweet, sticky sauce.
Back in the war room, Jim Schwartz just turned around and glared at Martin Mayhew, the GM.
"I wanted to trade up, Martin. Now I can't even do my FIST PUMP! It's TRADEMARKED, man - I'm trying to get sponsor money for it!"
Martin had only one thing to say, and it reverberated through New York City, getting an approving nod from George Lucas and winces from everyone else: "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
After a moment of silent reflection, the Lions did what they do under their new, vastly more successful regime; they took a look at their board and selected the highest-ranked player on it...
BTSC 2012 Community Mock Draft Pick No. 22 -- Cleveland Browns Select Jonathan Martin, OT, Stanford
The Steelers pick is getting closer and closer, and now we've only got to get through the Lions pick (which will be up later today)! Thanks go to _ET_ for Part 2 of his Browns analysis here. Next up: Detroit Lions and they'll be represented by JDSpartan.

While making the 4th pick overall, I listed the Cleveland Browns' top needs as WR (which I addressed), RB and QB. Now that I'm back here with the 22nd pick overall, QB/RB are still big needs, but the available talent at those positions do not represent the best value available. QBs Brandon Weedon and Kirk Cousins would be big reaches at this point without bringing a substantial or even minor upgrade on the Browns depth chart. At RB position, Lamar Miller, Doug Martin and David Wilson would fill the void of the departed Peyton Hillis. However, the value available at other positions, plus the chance that one, if not all will be available at the top of the 2nd round (37th overall), makes it easier to pass on them at this point.
BTSC 2012 Community Mock Draft Pick No. 21 -- Cincinnati Bengals Select Michael Brockers, DT, LSU
The Steelers pick is getting closer and closer, but before then we've got to get through 1st round reappearances by a pair of division opponents. Thanks go to seton hall and the steelers for Part 2 of his Bengals analysis. Next up: Cleveland Browns (Part 2), with the extra 1st rounder they acquired from Atlanta in last year's trade for Julio Jones, and they'll again be represented by _ET_.
By the way, take note of the cool little minute-long draft profiles from SBN NFL that are embedded with these picks. It's been Michael Bean's personal project to make these videos happen, and let us know what you think of them! -barnerburner-

The Cincinnati Bengals, as I said, have the luxury of two first round picks. That means you can fill a need with one pick and go BPA with another. In this scenario I filled the Bengals need at guard by selecting Cordy Glenn. While the Bengals still have needs at CB, RB, and S the players on the board simply don't match up with the Bengals needs. If you look at who is remaining you see a few players who stand out as clear BPA's (Best Players Available). Those are MIchael Brockers and Courtney Upshaw. Both Brockers and Upshaw are projected as top 10 to 15 picks in the draft and if one of them were here at 21 I believe the Bengals would want to take one despite being stocked on the defensive line.
BTSC 2012 Community Mock Draft Pick No. 20 -- Tennessee Titans Select Stephon Gilmore, CB, South Carolina
We're picking up the pace again - and we do need to a bit to make sure we get this done before the draft kicks off on April 26. Thanks go to Dcarter for the pick and write up and his quick turnaround of it. Next up: Cincinnati Bengals (Part 2) and they'll again be represented by seton hall and the steelers.

Finally! The Titans are on the clock and with the 20th pick in the 2012 NFL draft...
The Tennessee Titans select Stephon Gilmore, CB, South Carolina.
I will admit this pick should be CB Janoris Jenkins, but his four kids with four different women and love of marijuana will keep him falling.
BTSC 2012 Community Mock Draft Pick No. 19 -- Chicago Bears Select David DeCastro, G, Stanford
The slide of a Steelers dream selection has been halted. Thanks go to Readarmon0 for the pick and thorough analysis here. Next up: Tennessee Titans and they'll be represented by Dcarter.

If any NFL team could have benefited from a lock-out shortened schedule the most this season, it would've been the Chicago Bears.
Disregarding Jay Cutler's first year debacle as Chicago's starting quarterback, he and Matt Forte built up quite a decent resume in the last two years, and it's a shame the two weren't able to finish it. In that period of time, the Bears earned a first-round bye, reached the NFC conference game, and went 7-3 the year after before the first of two devastating injuries. Before Jay Cutler went down, Chicagoans felt pretty good about themselves. People can slander our inconsistency and archaic offensive styles, critics can relegate us to being only third-best in our division, but we were perfectly content with proving them wrong by putting up-and-comers in their place while gunning for a wild-card seat.
BTSC 2012 Community Mock Draft Pick No. 18 -- San Diego Chargers Select Nick Perry, DE/OLB, USC
Now we're leaving the SEC and moving out west! Many thanks go to BluegrassSteeler for the entertaining, informative, and thoroughly enjoyable write up here on life in AJ Smith's shoes. Next up: Chicago Bears and they'll be represented by Readarmon0.

AJ Smith can't sleep.
Sitting up in bed he looks around at the darkened room, familiar objects outlines by moonlight. He gets up and dresses with a practiced silence. He's done this so many times in the last few weeks he doesn't need to flip on a light - he has perfect knowledge of everything that surrounds him. He tip-toes down the stairs and heads to his office. After he passes through security, the guard - the same guard that's checked him in almost every night in recent weeks - shakes his head.
"What's eating this guy?" he wonders before he goes back to checking his Tweets.
BTSC 2012 Community Mock Draft Pick No. 17 -- Cincinnati Bengals Select Cordy Glenn, G/T, Georgia
The back-to-back-to-back barrage of 'Bama players has been ended, but we're not leaving the SEC yet. We're finally into the second half of the 1st round, and seton hall and the steelers made the selection here for the pick that the Bengals somehow managed to fleece out of Oakland. Next up: San Diego Chargers and they'll be represented by BluegrassSteeler.

The Cincinnati Bengals took a huge step in the right direction last year thanks to the play of Andy Dalton and A.J. Green. However, they are still a few pieces away from being a major threat in the brutal AFC North. The Bengals still lack a lockdown corner because Jonathan Joseph left last year to play with the Texans. They still need an upgrade at running back because Cedric Benson is just bad. However, their biggest need is at right guard. They need a first round talent to play the guard position. They have some other minor needs at safety, wide receiver, and defensive end but those should be addressed later in the draft.
BTSC 2012 Community Mock Draft Pick No. 16 -- New York Jets Select Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama
Make that back-to-back-to-back players from 'Bama coming off the board! I never heard from steelers1963, which makes this my work here - I was totally going to phone it in, but a slow work day afforded me enough time to sort of put something together. Regardless, don't hold back if you want to rip on it and second-guess me. Next up: Cincinnati Bengals with their first pick of the 1st round (which they received from Oakland in the Carson Palmer trade) and they'll be represented by seton hall and the steelers.
By the way, take note of the cool little minute-long draft profiles from SBN NFL that are embedded with these picks. It's been Michael Bean's personal project to make these videos happen, and let us know what you think of them! -barnerburner-

The New York Jets have had an offseason of interesting acquisitions, highlighted by the following:
- LaRon Landry, S - the former 6th overall pick in 2007 had a mutual parting from the Redskins and signed a one-year, $4 million contract. Landry has also been looking... well... just look here.
- Chaz Schilens, WR - the big 6'4 target had two injury-plagued campaigns in four seasons with the Raiders, and was signed to a cheap, one-year deal.
- Drew Stanton, QB - was signed from the Lions and spent all of five days as the presumed back up to Mark Sanchez, before the Jets traded for someone magical. Stanton immediately requested to be released or traded, and two days later, he ended up being packaged with a 7th round pick and shipped to Bruce Arians land in exchange for a 6th round pick.
- Tim Tebow, QB - acquired from the Broncos along with a 7th round pick, in exchange for the Jets' 4th and 6th round picks. May or may not back up Mark Sanchez. May or may not run the Jets' 'Wildcat'. May or may not run some other specialty/gimmick package. Will definitely get an even more disproportionate amount of attention now that he's under the microscope of the New York media. Will definitely also sell a ridiculous number of jerseys in the meantime.
- Hayden Smith, rugby star - no really, he's an Aussie that used to play professional rugby in England. Apparently they'll try to turn him into a tight end. Or a series of amusing training camp stories.
Let's cut to the chase - here's who I think their next acquisition should be in this scenario:
BTSC 2012 Community Mock Draft Pick No. 15 -- Philadelphia Eagles Select Mark Barron, S, Alabama
Back-to-back players from 'Bama come off the board! And many thanks go to LV Steelers Fan for the analysis of the cross-state "Dream Team". Next up: New York Jets and they'll be represented by steelers1963.

OK, I'll admit it. I have a soft spot for the Philadelphia Eagles. Maybe it's because I was forced to watch them every Sunday growing up in Allentown, one hour away from Lincoln Financial Field. Or more likely, it's because of the infinite joy they provided me as they caused their fans(i.e. most of my friends) to go through an all-too-predictable roller coaster of emotion each and every year. Before every season, expectations were sky high. This was going to be the year that the Birds finally broke through and ended their 50 year championship drought. Then they would stumble out of the gate and everyone would jump off the bandwagon saying "Same old Eagles" while calling for Andy Reid to be fired and Donovan McNabb to be benched and/or traded. But come November, a magical turnaround would capture the imagination of the Birds' long-suffering fans, and their Super Bowl plans would be back online. Until, that is, the Eagles would lose a game in which they were heavily favored either in the last few weeks of the season or in the playoffs, and my friends would go into spiraling paroxysms of rage and despair. "I knew this would happen all along, this %$#^@& team never changes!"
BTSC 2012 Community Mock Draft Pick No. 14 -- Dallas Cowboys Select Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama
I've been on vacation this weekend and am a bit late getting this up, but thanks go to Mike Frazer for the solid write up here for Not Really America's Team. Next up: Philadelphia Eagles and they'll be represented by LV Steelers Fan.
By the way, if you look back at previous community mock draft picks, you'll see that some of them now have minute-long draft profiles embedded that were not there before. Jerry Jones likes just about anything shiny.
No, I don't mean fishing lures, bass boats or beer cans -- all things that I can personally attest from a decade in the Lone Star State, are nearly synonymous with Texas, mind you -- but rather the kinds of players who make you remember who they are, one way or another. In the days of his glory, Jones fancied playmakers like Emmitt Smith and Troy Aikman, guys who managed to provide plenty of flash with little or no actual risk. They were great at what they did, and they were humble enough that you felt alright when you watched your kid strut around wearing their jersey. For the most part, Jones' early players were consummate team guys, despite the occassional Mchael Irvin.
BTSC 2012 Community Mock Draft Pick No. 13 -- Arizona Cardinals Select Riley Reiff, OT, Iowa
Quick show of hands - who else is nominally a fan of Steelers West just because they're Steelers West? I know I would've been rooting wholeheartedly for them if they'd been playing anyone else on February 1, 2009. Anyways, thanks go to Steel34D for the analysis here. Next up: Dallas Cowboys and they'll be represented by Mike Frazer.
By the way, today we're finally able to include one of SBN's minute-long draft profiles with the pick when it's published! It's been Michael Bean's personal project to make these videos happen, and let us know what you think of them! -barnerburner-

Before the announcement of the Arizona Cardinals pick, I will first recap the season and off-season moves of Steelers West.
2011 Season-
After the Lockout in 2011, the Arizona Cardinals continued their standard operating procedure of signing former Steelers. In 2011 it was Nick Eason who was signed to not only help in depth but to teach Ray Horton's scheme. The Cardinals started with an abysmal 1-5 record after learning they had a long ways to go to match the Steelers in week 6. It was their game the next week that seemed to inspire the team to make a push. Against the Ravens in week 7 the defense dominated in the first half and the offense was effective. Ultimately the Cardinals lost but something change with the team after that game. They went on a 7-2 run with very good play from their defense.
BTSC 2012 Community Mock Draft Pick No. 12 -- Seattle Seahawks Select Melvin Ingram, DE/OLB, South Carolina
Consensus seems to be that the Chiefs threw a curveball taking Brock Osweiler, so would the Seahawks throw one as well? We're using baseball metaphors today because their season is just starting. Anyways, Riddlah made the pick here and that's for you to decide. Next up: Arizona Cardinals, aka Steelers West, and they'll be represented by Steel34D.
By the way, if you look back at previous community mock draft picks, you'll see that some of them now have minute-long draft profiles embedded that were not there before. Before free agency, quarterback would have easily been Seattle’s most pressing need. However, that all changed on March 18, 2012 when the Seattle Seahawks signed Matt Flynn, the previous back up to Aaron Rodgers, to a 3 year $26 million deal of which only $10 million is guaranteed. Whether or not his signing will pay off is unclear, but what is clear is that Seattle most likely won’t be drafting a quarterback with any of their first few picks after they just dropped big money on their (hopefully) franchise quarterback.
For this pick I could have gone several ways. I was considering Michael Floyd (taken), Quinton Coples (taken), or maybe even Luke Kuechly (also taken). However, after scouring Field Gulls for several days and listening to their opinions and analyses of their team I decided that the best pick would be...
BTSC 2012 Community Mock Draft Pick No. 11 -- Kansas City Chiefs Select...
I'm keeping this pick out of the title because I really don't want to spoil the surprise. Should I keep the actual picks out of the titles entirely as we move forward? Anyways, thanks go to Steel in FL for the work here. Next up: Seattle Seahawks and their new neon threads, and they'll be represented by Riddlah.

Let's look at the Chiefs' season last year and previous draft picks. Last year started off with them defending their division title by losing second-year player and soon to be star safety Eric Berry, as well as second-year TE Tony Moeaki, before the season even started. And then Jamaal Charles, the Man on offense went down in Week 2 to an ACL injury.
Effectively, the Chiefs' season was over before it began. The offense went from having a great running game, a really good WR, and some decent young targets at TE and WR at the start of training camp, to having a mediocre running game and only one target at WR worth writing home about. When combined with a below average QB, it's little wonder the Chiefs struggled on offense last year.
SB Nation's Matt Ufford checks out the new, cutting edge Nike uniforms for the upcoming NFL season. He also hits on Wes Welker and lurks in the background glaring at Big Ben, because he's a Seahawks fan and still bitter.
BTSC 2012 Community Mock Draft Pick No. 10 -- Buffalo Bills Select Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame
And just like that we're through the first 10 picks of the 2012 BTSC Community Mock Draft! Thanks go to Cannon36 for the insight and write up here. Next up: Kansas City Chiefs, and they'll be represented by Steel in FL.

A month ago I would have said that Buffalo's greatest need would be a decent pass-rush coming off the edge. However, with the signings of Mario Williams and Mark Anderson, the Bills defensive line seems pretty well set. I am not thrilled that the Panthers picked Kuechly with the ninth pick. I think he would have made a great Bill. But because of that pick I can now go back to the other four players I was targeting for Buffalo at 10. David DeCastro, Jonathan Martin (who fits the Bills scheme much better than Riley Reiff IMO), Dre Kirkpatrick, and Michael Floyd.
BTSC 2012 Community Mock Draft Pick No. 9 -- Carolina Panthers Select Luke Kuechly, LB, Boston College

The Carolina Panthers need some serious help on the defensive side of the football. In 2011, Carolina struggled to stop both the run and the pass. They gave up the eighth most rushing yards, the ninth most passing yards, and the fifth most total yards in the NFL last season. They were also eighth worst in yards per rush, and tied for last place in adjusted yards per pass (all rankings from PFR.com). So, it appears that the Panthers should really pick a top defensive player with the ninth pick in the draft. The question is, which player is the best choice and where is their biggest need? After checking a few draft sites, I saw, CB, DT, and LB all as their biggest need. Given their poor rankings in both rush and pass defense, maybe each position is equally as big of a need. If they were to consider offense with this pick, a top young WR would not be a bad idea for them, since Steve Smith is nearing the end of his career.
BTSC 2012 Community Mock Draft Pick No. 8 -- Miami Dolphins Select Ryan Tannehill, QB, Texas A&M
I would've had this, the 8th pick of the 2012 BTSC Community Mock Draft, up earlier but I didn't get a chance to put it together last night. Thanks go to MiamiSteelersFan for the prompt response and write up, even though my slacking didn't reflect it. Next up: Carolina Panthers, and they'll also be appropriately represented by WolfpackSteelersFan. -barnerburner-

BTSC 2012 Community Mock Draft Pick No. 7 -- Jacksonville Jaguars Select Quinton Coples, DE, UNC
After a fun little surprise with the 6th pick of the 2012 BTSC Community Mock Draft, we've now got one that seems to be a bit more predictable with the 7th pick! Thanks go to Ben Balesverger for the work. Next up: Miami Dolphins, and they'll be appropriately represented by MiamiSteelersFan. -barnerburner-

I have spent some time watching mock drafts and the seventh pick for the Jaguars. The first "concern" for many Jaguars fans is that the player the FO picks doesn´t fall into the category of a "reach", in other words the player chosen deserves the pick "allocated" talent mostly in the minds of the press, tv etc.
In this case, the Jaguars have several primary options:
1.- Quinton Coples: a UNC pass rusher
2.- Trent Richardson: a Bama RB in that case not so necesary as MoJo still is in great shape
3.- Michael Floyd: kinda reminds me of when the Steelers drafted Plaxico
