NY Times on the BTN

Some interesting nuggets, like Delany wanted the Big Ten excluded from the Sears Cup competition.

Are we national championship material?

You might not know it, but there is a huge game for a Penn State this weekend against a top-notch SEC opponent that will show us how tough our young team really is.  Only in this one, PSU is...

Ferentz extends contract through 2020

Iowa athletic director Gary Barta says the extension supports his goal of retaining Ferentz until he retires.

Florida Athletic$

"It didn’t take long before women with dresses and guys in good clothes were diving on the floor. This is a place where people are built to win."

4 out of 7 SI writers...

selected PSU as this year's "flop" team.

Iowa Senior Koeppel Hit by Truck While on Moped

Warning that some might find the video disturbing. Amazingly, he's ok. I don't recall knowing anyone with a scooter while at PSU in the 90s. I live in Madison now, and they are extremely popular with the UW students and athletes. Are they big at PSU now too?

Nebraska Volleyball

Article about Nebraska volleyball and how Coach Cook's daughter (2009 National Freshman of the Year) left UCLA after one year to join her father at Nebraska. This is going to be an intense conference rivalry for our women's volleyball team, and I'm looking forward to it.

Chicago Big Ten Charity Bar Crawl - Aug. 28

Saw a promotion for this and thought I would pass it on for those of you in Chicagoland.

Whitehouse Approval Rating Drops

I was surprised to hear my wife tell me that my season tickets arrived with today's mail.  I just wasn't expecting them yet.  But after opening them, I was even more surprised to see which game is...

Hodge named top Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year

Congrats to Megan for being the first PSU athlete to be awarded the Honda-Broderick Cup that designates the top Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year (and of course, UConn's Maya Moore pulls an OSU and claims she is a "co-winner.") Seriously, congrats to both. In other "ho-hum" news Hodge has also been named the 2009-10 Suzy Favor Female Athlete of the Year by the Big Ten.

Triple Crown for Women's Track

They just won the Big Ten outdoor championship, earning them a rare Big Ten track triple crown (also winning the cross country and indoor championships). Congrats to a stellar season and good luck at the NCAAs!

NY Times on Fortt and Redd

Nice background on Fortt and Redd, as well as some JoePa recruiting stories.

Women's Volleyball advances to National Semifinals

I'm sure PSUJunny05 will have more on this soon, but this was the team's 100th consecutive match victory and Coach Rose's 999th win. Congrats!

Cael's Dynasty

Great article from the NY Times on Coach Sanderson's plans to build a dynasty.

Ending Soon - Athletes for the Kids THON Auction

The Athletes for the Kids Auction is ending soon. Lots of neat autographed apparel, posters, balls, etc. And it benefits a great cause - THON.

Natural Whiteout for Homecoming?

Possible heavy wet snow in Central PA Thursday night through the weekend. Someone at work sent me a recent forecast of 20 inches in the northern tier of PA...

Madison, WI get together for Eastern Illinois game

Sorry for a FanShot on this item of limited interest, but I'm trying to reach gumbercules and CheeseHeadLion about this event (or other PSU fans in Madison) since we commented about it in the Bars post. There should be a decent number of PSU fans congregating at State Street Brats on Saturday at 11am for the E. Illinois game. Might be able to kickstart a regular Madison event off of this.

Peter King recognizes Deon Butler

Some well-deserved recognition for Deon Butler, although I wonder how many PSU records a fellow has to own before he has "great stats."

Troy Sunderland Update

In news that may interest only me (as a Manheim Central alum), Troy Sunderland was hired as the new Manheim Central wrestling coach.

Advanced Blue and White Body Paint

Any bets on when we will see the first food science major at PSU "obtain" some FD&C blue dye No. 1 from a lab and try to replicate this look at a game? Beats body paint.

Bo Ryan on the World University Games

And why Big Ten basketball officials might not be that bad after all.

New "White Out" Alternatives

I got my season tickets in the mail today (sorry, no pics).  It came with a brochure filled with offers and ads.  One page, titled "The Greatest Show in College Football," lists some new "crowd...

Bacon-infused vodka

A Bloody Mary with bacon-infused vodka!?! Maybe this should be added to the BSD tailgate menu...

Pitt losing Western PA recruiting battle

Nothing groundbreaking, but interesting to see this in the NY Times. Of course, it raises the OTL allegations again...

PSU Athletic Finances

Interesting article on state of PSU athletic department finances, including tidbits about scheduling, coaches' salaries and new construction projects.
