Dan Rafael reports that the big showdown is nearly finalized. according to Dan's sources the biggest issue was the date, and that has been settled apparently. it's all up to Arum to fly to the Philippines, and get Manny to sign

On Tuesday, the ESPN "sports investigative show" did a piece about Gatti's alleged suicide. I thought it was pretty good, though it is a bit disturbing. there are some clips of the police taking Gatti's body out of the hotel room in a body bag, as well as photos of him lying on his floor dead (though they didn't show his face).

I saw this on box azteca this past weekend, and it seems that the young man has died from injuries he sustained from the fight. Marco Antonio Nazareth was only 23.

An article by Dan Rafael about Golden Boy Promotion's "Fight Night Club" series which premieres today. Zocalo already posted a fanpost about this a while back, but i wasn't sure if you can "bump" older fanposts. Don't forget to check it out on Versus today at 9pm Eastern.

Watch PPV's for free (legally)

I'm not sure if i should do this as a fanshot or a fanpost, but apparently my hunch about box azteca having the whole PPV was correct.  My time warner guide said they were airing movies during the time of the PPV, but it was wrong.  My friend's folks saw the whole PPV for free on box fuckin' azteca for free while I was here watching it for $50.  Basically, I'm posting this as a heads up: if you have box azteca and there's a PPV featuring a top rank fighter in the main event, you might want to risk not buying it and tuning in to box azteca.  the spanish announcers might suck, but it'll save you some money.

Cotto-Margarito: Is It Still A Great Fight?

This is probably a stupid question, but knowing what we now know about Margarito does it make you change your opinion about their epic battle from last year?  Someone posted a comment in SC's recent post in which they said that they were "horrified" by Cotto's face after their fight, and that made me wonder if the whole plaster scandal has lessened anyone's views about that fight.  For me I really can't watch it thinking that it was a legit battle which is a shame since as everyone knows it was one hell of a fight at the time.

Antonio Tarver gets rematch with Chad Dawson

Source:  Dan Rafael of ESPN

Link: http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?id=3777034

The fight will take place on March 14th this time aired on HBO's "World Championship Boxing".  I never did see the first fight the round by round coverage by SC didn't really excite me to wish that I did, and this rematch isn't all that exciting of an idea either.  Even though this fight does nothing for me I'll probably end up watching it since I try to watch every fight I can.

Alexander Povetkin pulls out of Klitschko fight

According to Dan Rafael, Alexander Povetkin injured his left foot after tripping on a tree root.  Rafael goes on to say that Wladimir Klitschko will still fight on Dec. 13 with Cristobal Arreola as one of the leading candidates.  Arreola would have to ditch his B.A.D. fight in order to get destroyed by Klitschko.  Other possible candidates include Alexander Dimitrenko, Oleg Maskaev, and Hasim Rahman.

Addition by SC:

That's too bad, but, well, whatever. Klitschko-Povetkin will happen sometime in 2009, I'm sure. As much as I like Chris Arreola, I hope he's smart enough to say, "You know what? Not yet." Dimitrenko, at 6'7", seems like the most interesting idea of the names mentioned, at least to me.
