Bleed Cubbie Blue Baturkey's Fantasy Smack Talk League (Updated draft time)

This diary is to let anyone in my league who did not get an email know that the league has been created on Yahoo.  If you need to know the league number and password, I can be reached by email at baturkey@gmail.com, through Google Talk as baturkey, and through AIM as jeffliu77.

I ended up going with Ivy League, but that can be changed, as can all league settings.

The draft is on Sun Mar 4 8:30pm Central.

Bleed Cubbie Blue Bang per buck for the Cubs

I didn't feel like working, so I crunched some numbers.  I only looked at players who had 100 or more ABs as a Cub.  The Cubs are getting the most bang for the buck from Murton, Cedeno, and Walker.

Name        OBP/$MIL  SLG/$MIL OPS/$MIL  AVG/$MIL
M. Murton   1.036     1.178    2.211     0.819
R. Cedeno   0.979     1.158    2.134     0.902
T. Walker   0.152     0.167    0.319     0.123

J. Pierre is 7th at OBP/$MIL with 0.049.

For comparison, Barry Bonds' SLG/$MIL is .024, which is lower than the lowest Cub Ramirez at .041.

What does this mean?  Probably very little, but I was curious.

Bleed Cubbie Blue Getting a handle on OPS

I was looking at player stats in mlb.com's Gameday to avoid paying attention to what was going on in the game. The hitter stats displayed when you click on a name are AB, AVG, HR, RBI, and OPS. I decided it was finally time to get a grip on this OPS thing.

Because I am a total nerd, I made a spreadsheet with the 5 Cubs with the most at bats as of this morning, May 9, 2006. This is what I found:

Result        +/- OPS
Single    about  .010
Double    about  .020
Triple    about  .030
Home Run  about  .040
Walk      about  .006
Strikeout about -.006

I'm going to have to reflect on this more, but at the moment I'd still rather look at OBP for the top of the order and SLG for the middle of the order.

More data after the jump. If it doesn't line up nicely in your browser, well, I tried.

Bleed Cubbie Blue Would you throw a Bonds record home run ball onto the field?

Hi, I've been lurking since the start of the season but someone on another forum prompted a question I wanted to ask.  My answer would be I don't know, as I am not a wealthy man by any measure.

My name is Jeff, I grew up in Lake County, and am a Cubs fan because this year is the year (unless it's next year).  I currently live in New Jersey and have begun liking the Mets a distant second since moving here.
