Athletics Nation Be hopeful A's Fans

This season is not over. Lets all have some hope. Lets get everyone on this site together and rally the troops. This might sound really corny, or stupid but I had an idea. A lot of people on here including myself are very negative. Lets change that.

Every one please say one memory about the A's past or present that you really enjoyed. I will go first. When the A's beat the Blue Jays on AN day in 2006. Milton Bradley's walk off home run was amazing.

I devolped a slang that we should all use on here . Its called "wett." Wett is a bay area slang that people use to mean cool or "tight" here is the link to urbandictionary.com definition.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=+wett everyone please start saying "that's wett" if something is good or "get wett" for example if Emil Brown is up with the bases loaded say "get wett" LETS GO A'S!

Athletics Nation If you were Billy

If you were Billy Beane what moves would you make? Who would you DFA? Who would you trade/aqquire? I decided to do this because im bored since there is no mlb ball the next couple days.

The first thing I would do is try and get some power. It does not seem like the A's are going to make the playoffs this year but I dont seem them doing it the next few years unless they can get some power proposed trade: Joe Blanton and Travis Buck and Matt Murton For Jason Bay. The A's seem to have a lot of pitching depth so I would like to see this move. Next I would try to trade Crosby. He is not good at offense or defense and is not a good player at all. Proposed trade - Crosby and Huston Steet for Reid Brignac and Gabe Gross. I would also trade Eric Chavez and Ryan Sweeney , cash and Gregorio Petit and player to be named later for Chase Headley the 3B prospect for the padres finally I would DFA Jack Hannahan. I like how scrappy he is but I dont think he does much to help the team . So this would be my lineup 1. Mark Ellis 2B 2. Reid Brignac SS 3. Carlos Gonzalez CF 4. Jason Bay LF 5. Jack Cust DH 6. Chase Headkley 3B 7. Gabe Gross RF 8. Kurt Suzuki C 9. Daric Barton 1B Rotation Smith Eveland Gallagher Duchesher Gio Gonzalez bullpen casilla cahill Henry Rodriguez Andrew Brown Jerry Blevins Brad Ziegler Dallas Braden Closer Joey Devine please give me your thoughts and what would you do?

Athletics Nation come on now

Usually when a trade happens with any one of my favorite teams ( A's, Raiders, Warriors) I always look at the positives and get exited about the talent that the team is receiving. This time however that is not the case.

Athletics Nation A's close to deal with Alan Embree

With the winter meetings starting today im sure there will be a fair share of rumors, but this one seems a little more then a rumor. As ESPN is reporting the A's are close to a signing Alan Embree lefty reliever. They are saying this would push Kennedy into the rotation if the A's due indeed get Embree.

A's close to deal with Embree
Dec 3 - The Athletics are close to completing negotiations on a contract with free agent left-handed reliever Embree, reports Buster Olney of ESPN The Magazine. Embree was 4-3 with a 3.27 ERA in 73 games for San Diego last season. Assuming that Oakland is able to sign Embree, it would probably shift left-hander Joe Kennedy, who worked out of the bullpen last year, into the rotation.

Athletics Nation Need some help with something

For my Journalism class at my high school ( Albany High) I am writing an article about the tragedy that Killed Cory Lidle and his Co-pilot. I need  some quotes from A's fans who have fond memories of Cory Lidle. Anything about him or his career as an athletic.

Please say Your full name with the quote.

Thank you  so much!

Since this is the off-season I figure people have a hissy fit about posting a diary about this.

Yes I do spell check for school.

Athletics Nation Reflecting back on the year

This season was a sucess I believe. The A's finally got out of the first round which was a huge problem they had for four years. Personally I dont think the talent was that high on this team and with Additions , next year could be the year the A's go all the way.

Personally my favorite moment of the year was Milton Bradley walk off. To be there with AN and experience it was a blast.

On another note i want ZITO  OUT, im tired of it being a roll of the dice whether or not ge gets shelled. Especially in clutch games. The staff can be good without him. Let him go to the Dodgers mets or Padres.

thank you to Blez for being the great Master of this site.

Thank you BaseballGirl for having great energetic spirit and organizing An day Anahein.

Thank you Louismg for youre comics and Open threas

Thank you Nico for your hillarious comments and hosting Chez Nico. You arre truely a very cool person.

Last but not Least , thjank you to everyone on AN

Athletics Nation R.I.P Cory Lidle: please read

by now a lot of people know about the tragedy in NYC, where a plane registered to Cory Lidle crashed into an appartment building in upper east side. Lidle was aboard and is feared dead. Times like this make the game of baseball seem un-important. A's stranded runners? So what its just a game.

I met Cory Lidle last summer out side  the phillies hotel in San Fran and  talked to him for half an hour . I Can honestly tell you he was the nicest athlete ive ever met.  I told him we missed him in Oakland and that his August of 2002 was simply amazing.

R.I.P. Cory Lidle.

Athletics Nation Questions about tonight.

Right now im staying at the a's team hotel, I was swimming earlier while Dan Johnson and his wife and Kid were sitting down next to the pool. My dad saw Haren in the elevator and I just saw Chavez in the lobby signing autographs.

Anyways for tonight? Where are people meeting? Is there a tailgate?

Thanks

Athletics Nation True or false

This game was fun we played it before. I know that was the offseason but still today is a boring off day. I say something and then someone comments saying either true or false. Then they say a statement and it goes on and on.

Athletics Nation Can the A's shake it off?

Obviously the A's have been inconsistent this year. After todays 14-0 drubbing, I for one am very concerned. The A's have taken losses like this hard this year. They have gone on to start losing streaks. The point is, even though its only the D-rays this is a huge series. The A's need to bounce back.

A few Notes:

Witasick- Just doesnt look like a good pitcher anymore. Ive said that before.

Street- Needs to stepp it up, he got lucky last night and Has not been clutch this year. His ERA is great but he needs to be more clutch.

Kotsay- Huge loss , Kielty cant field at all and has not hit well.

Chavez- I have ripped him before, But This guys fielding is amazing.

Swish- Good too see him turning it around again, Hes one of the keyest players on the club.

Milton Bradley- Hes a gamer and brings the fire for sure, I have seen him throw his bat violently after striking out or getting out. Milton this is not the Maury show or Jerry Springer. But he is my favorite player and He has been great when healthy.

Scoot scoot scutaro- Love the guy, We Need him on the big league roster.

Thats it let the rant begin.

Athletics Nation Billy, please make a move

After getting swept by the d-backs I thought about a few things.

First off, Dan Johnson is not a good first baseman fielding wise. Im not just saying that because of his error today, over the course of this year he has looked bad at 1ST. Move Swish To first and aqquire an outfielding bat. Who knows how long Bradley will be out for and kielty gets injured a lot as well. Carlos lee would be my dream player to aqquire. Great Hitter, Great Fielder and just a Gamer.

Also, Has anyone noticed Jay Payton lately? He has hit much better but out in the field he just does not seem into it. Could it be He wants out? I hope not.

As much as I want a new Manager due to the fact Macha is flat out to calm to be a manager AKA Art Howe, I admit that Macha should not be blamed for the A's woes. Neither should Gerald Perry or Curt Young. The A's are just not executing plain and simple.

One bad thing about Macha though is the lineups he puts out. Ellis, Scutaro, Kendall in a row is ridicoulous. Three groundout/single hitters. I realize we cant do much about the Kendall thing but Scutaro besides the Scott Proctor walk off has been pretty bad. Getting back to Kendall, I think this team needs a true Lead off hitter. Someone with speed and  a good ability to get on base. Also Thomas should bat 3rd as a fair ammount of people on this site have suggested.

Come on Billy make a move.

Lets go A's!

Athletics Nation There's in A in Annoying

The A's are just pissing me off right now. There hitting is pathetic and So many players are injured. The sad thing is that when these players come back it probabbly wont get any beter for the team.

The tendency in bad times for a pro team is to blame the manager ( In this case Macha), But come on most of the mistakes were ones that if he didnt do people would have ripped him for his other decision.

Things about the A's I need to say

I cant stand a Team stranding so many runners.

Melhuse is a flat out better player then Kendall. Start him ( So what if kendall whines)( I Dont understand if thats not obvious by now))

I cant stand how the A's say a players going to be out for  a few days and then after a few days they put that player on the Dl. Its what a like to call "A typical A's injury" annoying!

Im not going to blame Macha but I think the A's clubhouse is to relaxed and not fired up enough during times like this.

The A's need to play small ball... Case in point Friday's game against Ming-wang, They hit into a ton of double plays which could have been avoided by stealing or bunting. ( I know Nico said the same thing).

The A's cant say just say " The other pitcher was great" No he wasnt you just suck at hitting and capitalizing on team mistakes. Por ejemplo: Jarod wright.. Come on he's terrible. Other examples include kameron Loe, Mark Hendrickson, Gil Meche, Kyle Lohse, Hector Carrasco. The list goes on and on like a too-short song.

Also, The A's cant just count on getting hot when the weather is hot because clearly that just doesnt even get them to the playoffs. Because they get tired in septiembre. These next 2 weeks are very important I believe. No matter who's injured they are huge games.

Thats all from an annoyed A's fan.

Athletics Nation Robb's Review

First off, Even though The A's got swept im not worried what so ever. The metrodome has always been a bad place for the A's. The bats atleast came alive and Thomas had a good game today.

DJ ripped the ball twice today, both would have been hits if it was not for the good fielding of Morneau and Michael Cuddyer.

How about Swisher though? WOW! He is tearing it up at the plate.

I honestly think the only reason Blanton was off today was due to the small strike zone of Umpire Mike Everett. I think that rattled him a lot.

On a different note, I would like to see Melhuse start more. I know he started yesterday, but im sure he wont start for atleast another week now.

Atleast The A's go home to Oakland in first place!

Athletics Nation Robb's Review

Ok so I know last year I said some really stupid stuff when the going was not good for the A's. This year Hopefully I dont flip out.

First of all I think Loaiza must be injured. He looked so great vs the G-nats in the exhibition. He's topping out at 85 on his fastball, something must be wrong. I say lets be patient and hopefully he can turn it around. 2 starts is WAY too little of an amount to say Start someone else.

How about  Swish tonight, atleast the hitting on this team is getting better.

I am worried about DJ though. He's a pull hitter all the way and pitchers and managers have figured that out and adjusted accordingly. I understand its still early but could be a sophmore slump for him.

By the way kind of random, but I was thinking and It would be so fun to have a meet up with people from AN, Before AN day ,like at a sports bar or something. ( That serves food as well, so I could get in)

Lets Go Kentucky Joe!

Athletics Nation lineup proposal

After watching the first four games, I have came up with the Lineup that I think would be best for the A's.

  1. Scutaro
  2. Kotsay
  3. Chavez
  4. Thomas
  5. Johnson
  6. Bradley
  7. Swisher/Payton
  8. Ellis
  9. Kendall
Sorry , im just bored and Dont think Ellis should be in the 3 hole. Thoughts?

Athletics Nation This is the A's Year

As the offseason has gone by, The A's have made some great moves. Loaiza, Bradley, Thomas... . Add those players to the mix which already include Fantastic pitching. Now the lineup is one of the best ones in baseball. Who would have thought the A's lineup would be this loaded. Well after all In Billy we trust.

That slogan has  been true this offseason, And I think the A's have the talent to go all the way. I will be way more positive this year, Lets go Oakland!
