Bright Side Of The Sun View of current Suns from an old fan

I was a big Suns fan and on this blog for 2 years or so. And have been pulling for the Suns off and on for 25-30 years since I was a kid on the court as a cub scout getting my picture taken with Larry Nance and hoping to meet/watch the Suns Gorilla. I admit to fading off the Suns after Marion/Amare left but still tried here and there to watch them.

I haven't gone to another team, I simply been caught up with life...4 kids...work, etc which is a good thing. I've followed Rubio some, fun to watch. I've followed the Mavs a little since I live in Dallas. But nothing approached my excitement as a Suns fan I used to feel.

I've been watching the last few Suns games and even after losing tonight, I have to say I'm excited about this team again. I love that Nash didn't jump ship to some title contender. (same with Hill). Those 2 players have always been special, on and off the court. Some things have changed from the exciting Suns of 2-3-4 years ago. This team can rebound, this team can play defense. I love that they got Redd, what a great addition, glad to see he is healthy.

I really like Gortat, I really like that Robin Lopez is fighting for rebounds. I saw that movie about Telfair "Through the Fire" and was excited to learn he was a Sun. He's such a good fit, quick, tough, doesn't need to be the star. Can handle the ball under heavy pressure.

I like Nash, what's not to like, the guy is great. But I would prefer Hill or Telfair to be the main ball handler vs 2 or 3 particular teams...Miami being one of them.

Final thought, when I heard Nash was hoping the Suns would make the playoffs this season, I thought why? But after the last 2 weeks, I'm glad to be wrong. The Suns can compete with anyone I think and they're fun to watch again! Do I think they'll win this year. No. Do I want them to...Hell yeah! And with smart, skilled, experienced vets like Hill and Nash and Redd, and with what looks to be a great chemistry again...I'll be pulling for them.

Bright Side Of The Sun US olympic team - Colangelo - Lebron James

Article on yahoo sports

Strange Colangelo's statement wasn't much of a surprise. I liked what he said and understand it. Part of the US's problem has been having a team that knows each other and to have big names come and go when they want doesn't help the "team idea" or the US chances.

It doesn't surprise me that Lebron would make such a selfish strange statement in return. I like Lebron as a player, but he's not a very sharp person. He kind of fits into the Amare group, he skipped college and was treated like royalty. He one of the best players in the league, no doubt there. But mentally he's got a ways to go. Tell me if you disagree. I just think Lebron does and doesn't do whatever he wants and doesn't care about much of anyone else. He told the nba fans on tv over a year ago that he was going to do the dunk contest only to back out for no reason.

I'm not 100% sure, but last time I checked...the fans through tickets and endorsements pay Lebron his money...so maybe...just maybe he should wake the f### up and care about the fans a little more. Personally, I'm beginning to think he's closer to Kobe than Magic Johnson for example. Hopefully it's just youth and in 5 years or so he'll wake up.

On a side note, I just saw the Spurs beat the Lakers (without Bynum) and Ginobili is f#@king really playing well. I'm beginning to thing they're the team I'd like to avoid above anyone else in the first round.
Poll
Is Lebron making too much out of Colangelo's statement?
Yes, unless James has a valid reason other than he's too busy trying to make more money

Bright Side Of The Sun power rankings - suns #1!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well...here's the link

Link to nba.com power rankings

I'm not saying the Suns are the best team in the league...but wow!!...this has been a beautiful week for suns fans!! I can't remember seeing the bench be so helpful, I can't remember being excited about some rebounds or defensive plays...plus seeing Nash play like we know he can...it really says a lot about players and chemistry...I honestly believe Nash could've been playing this well last year...but the team makeup wasn't there. But add Dudley and JRich playing some incredible ball...man!!..this is just simply awesome!! And to think Amare and Barbosa aren't at their best yet...and lopez is out..If Lopez can make people change their opinion of him like dragic has been doing...

Bottom line...I'm not expecting a win against the Lakers coming up...but for the first time in 2+ years...I'm not expecting a loss either....if only they hadnt been able to add artest...sickening...just think of these four players...bryant...gasol...bynum...artest..seriously...all 4 are clearly all star level players...and I hate the lakers...more than the spurs...with effort and fast play and great shooting like the suns are showing...this is looking great!! Go Suns!!

Bright Side Of The Sun BARKLEY PROBLEMS AGAIN

Link to Barkley AZ article

This is not really a big deal, but it is news. I think it's not a big deal because Barkley has done so much more - that involves poor judgement - or no judgement at all really, that I hesitated to even post this...but...it's a blog and I like to type.

I've always been a fan of Barkley the basketball player. He was tough and got it done, he's similar to Shaq that he's one of the very few tough (big man) players the suns have had that can play at a high level also. But, as a person, it's hit or miss with what he says. I found the below link.

Link to some barkely quotes

some good plain quotes there, some very dumb ones
this was one of the best "You know it's going to hell when the best rapper out there is white and the best golfer is black"

this was a dumb one
"We don't need refs, but I guess white guys need something to do."

I'll be really clear on this, yes Jordan is the best player ever...but there have been a ton of great white players and there'd be more but I'd guess they (young white kids) get steered away from dreaming about the nba and steered into school much more often than inner city kids with less chances of going somewhere educationally, simply because their school system isn't comparable..sadly.

then another great one
"Poor people cannot rely on the government to come to help you in times of need. You have to get your education. Then nobody can control your destiny."

and another great one
"I just wish all these young black kids would realize how significant it is to stop acting a fool out there, killing each other, not getting their education. You know, people have died to put us in a situation to be successful."

anyways...I hope the test comes back he wasn't legally drunk

if we really want problems like that again, we can bring back marbury to do stupid stuff off the court, he was an all star in that regard

Bright Side Of The Sun ricky rubio (the silver spoon of basketball)

ok, sorry for that nightmarish silverspoon reference, here's the link that I found a good read This guy looks to be a fantastic shooter...think nash, looks to be a great passer...think nash....looks to be a great defender...think of wade during the olympics, I mean this kid has frightening skills, OK, my thoughts, Chris Paul really owned Jason Kidd and S. Nash this past year, but this Rubio player, in my opinion, can beat them all. (Ok, early to say, etc etc, but whatever the case, I'm simply glad there's some video to watch. Side note, I still think Lebron, Kobe (hurts to say it), Amare, Wade (like the phoenix) and some others are in a league above the rest, but this style of play, the passing, the stealing, to me, it reminds me of the run and gun suns of the last 2-3 yrs, fun stuff. A lot of good teams coming this year, it'll be fun to watch portland and oden play, here's a question. With the return of the superstar Wade, and with Miami getting Beasley, and if Marion stays, with another good move or 2, that team could get back into the eastern race easily, your thoughts? (But, I don't think Marion will be there)

Bright Side Of The Sun D'Antoni talks to ESPN

Interesting, sounds like it was all a Kerr-D'Antoni conflict and that everything was fine until that first game loss to the spurs. Here's an az republic article http://www.azcentral.com/sports/suns/articles/2008/05/13/20080513dantonibox0514.html I know its a small article, but the thing that I found most interesting...was everything was fine until that game... And I thought that game was hard for me to take.... I think we, as bloggers can only comment accurately on so much of this stuff, but, from what I see, I like Kerr more than D'Antoni. I honestly felt months ago that D'Antoni was too big for his own good, So hard to take, if Shaq could actually shoot free throws...(I know, it'll never happen), but if he could, we would've won that series. If Duncan hadn't made that three....If Nash didn't have such a horrible shooting night....and on and on.... But on the preparation side of it, I think the suns players have gotten away with 'LAZY' practices regarding defense and it showed. The Spurs and Celtics, and other teams knew, as a team, just what they wanted to do on defense. We had no clue and can't even rotate on pick and rolls....granted having nash, amare, and shaq hurt us on defense....and yet they still could've pulled off a victory I think. I honestly feel if popovich was the suns coach, and anyone else was the spurs coach, for the entire year, we'd have won, or amare would've demanded a trade because someone actually wasn't going to let him run his mouth and accept it just because he has so much potential.
