Super Bowl Diary

Since we need to fill the Diary with text you will be stuck with this Sunday football sermon.

I want to give thanks that this season will soon be over and I can soon put this miserable Bears season that started with great expectations behind us.

I also want to give thank the New York Giants for beating the Packers so that they are not in this Super Bowl.

I want to give additional thanks to the New York Giants for beating the friggen Cowboys. I really don't need additional reasons to hate the Cowboys, but before the game we were still talking Super Bowl and after the game Vasher, Tillman, Briggs and Harris were all injured which contributed to a few more losses.

So I now pray for the football gods to grant the Giants one more victory to end the Patriots perfect season.

Amen

P.S . If the Bears coaches had any balls they would not of started to play prevent defense with 10 minutes left in the third quarter and we would of beaten the Giants.

November 1st was the 8 year anniversary

of the death of Walter Payton. He was a great player and a great man who died way to young. Here is a YouTube video that was played before the Monday night football game on ABC.

Payton was a not only a great running back but he was also the most complete football player that played for the Chicago Bears, He could block, catch and throw the ball and was a great teammate.

News you could use

Turns out that the Bears have signed a new punter for todays game since Maynard is hampered by a groin injury.

It also turns out that we could of signed running back Chris Brown If Lovie Smith would of told him he was numero dos.

Finally while Vasher was happy for his first sack it turns out the NFL has also given him a $5000 fine for a late hit on Philip Rivers.

I'm going to the season opener today so look for me in the North End Zone. I will be the drunk in the Bears construction helmet and the White Urlacher Jersey.

Who's number 2?

According to John Mullin in this article Orton maybe playing his way into the number 2 Quarterback on this team.

He has lost weight and came into camp in the best shape of his life. With Orton looking good this camp and outplaying Griese what do you think the chances of Griese getting dumped and the Bears keeping Leak as the third string Quarterback?

Angelo looking for veteran running back

With Jones gone and Benson's past injury problems. With our other two running being small in stature we would have a major hole for the Bears if Benson went down.

Hidden in this article by David Haugh is this little snippet.

"And if Angelo finds the veteran running back he has been looking for since training camp started, the Panthers just gave him a bargaining chip to offer."

However according to the Bears Roster Peterson is only 1 inch shorter and 10 pounds lighter than Benson. So do you think we need another power back on this team?

Archuleta regains passion

Looks like the Bears are going to be stronger at the safety position. With a healthy Brown newly acquired Archuleta and another year under the belts for Harris and Manning.

I like what Brown said about Archuleta article

"Like I keep telling people, we learned this defense by watching tapes of him in St. Louis," Brown said of Archuleta. "Nobody had any thoughts that he was going to come in a mess with the chemistry. Everyone knows he's a really good football player. I know he was a scapegoat at Washington because he was a new guy. But he's a veteran. And communication hasn't been a problem so far."

Crap Tank in trouble again

Looks like Tank was pulled over at 3:30 in the morning for speeding and driving impaired so add two more games to his suspension. I wonder what the Bears are going to do with this guy?

The Bears are cheap

I wonder what the McCaskey's think being called Cheap by Charles Robinson of Yahoo sports.

"We've come up with respectable little titles for the Bears this week, as they continue to drag their feet on head coach Lovie Smith's new contract. I've heard the franchise and the McCaskey family called "hard-line negotiators" and "cautious spenders." To me, they're cheap and embarrassing."

Now I know this would probably have Halas smiling in his grave. I didn't know they made 51.5 million in 2005 and then raised ticket and beer prices, and I'm sure they will be going up again. Do you think being called cheap is going to help or hurt Lovie's contract negotiations

It's official Babich is the new defensive coordinator

Not that this is any surprise but this little tidbit is interesting.

"The Buffalo Bills asked for permission to speak with Babich at the end of the 2005 season when they were searching for a defensive coordinator. The Bears countered by offering Babich a position as assistant head coach/linebackers, indicating that the Bears had designs on promoting Babich even before the 2006 season started."

So the writing was on the wall and lets hope that this works out best for our beloved Bears.

Bears place franchise tag on Briggs

Well they have been talking about doing it so I don't think anyone is surprised.

I still think we need to draft another linebacker in the early rounds to add depth to the position.
