Minor League Ball Charlie Morton, Braves, SP...

So, I keep hearing about this guy. He's got a big pitcher's body, he's 24, has a great curve, throws mid-90s, and an above average change. He's going to be in AAA.

The deal is that his control has been horrible since he was drafted. However, the story is that something clicked for him late last summer, and he's been fairly dominant since then (through August, into the fall league, and now into spring).

Cox seems to love the guy. However, I can't find any major publication that has written anything about the guy so I can't confirm his stuff or this idea that he's turned it around.

Minor League Ball Shoulder Problem for Price?

David Price was scratched from his scheduled appearance Tuesday because of shoulder soreness.

Along with Scott Kazmir's elbow problems it was a bad day for the Rays' southpaw phenoms, but Price indicated afterward that the injury isn't serious. "I'll be all right," Price said. "It was just stiffness really, not sharp pain or anything. I couldn't really get it loose when I was in the pen, so I just said, 'Don't worry about it.'"

Minor League Ball Last Year's Top 100...

I've been going back to this list whether because I'm in a discussion about the quality of this year's list vs last years, or if I'm looking back to see where we slotted certain players who have similar profiles to players we're slotting now (Bruce and Snider come to mind).

Minor League Ball Is there any predictive value to % Line Drives?

I remember exploring this issue some last year and finding that %LD didn't really have much correlation to performance. Considering I didn't have access to that information before last year, I couldn't test if it had any predictive value, but I felt that it didn't.

Lately, I've been seeing people use that data point to argue for or against a certain prospect, and I'm curious to know why.

Minor League Ball Not that we need more Dukes' threads...

But I thought this piece showed a bit more of the positive side of the situation.

Even from the radio clip, this seems like a guy who seems to be trying to do better. He seems to know he needs some guidance and help to get better.

His history, both that he found himself in and he made himself, is such a tangled mess of problems that I can sympathize with him in trying to shed all that garbage and try to be a semi-normal person.

He may never be better, but I'll give it to the guy at least he recognizes a problem that he has to work on and that he's better than he was.

Minor League Ball Freeze list advice...

I normally hate these kinds of diaries, but thought this one might spark some interesting discussion considering some of the threads on our Community Prospect list...

Ok, I'm pondering my freeze list. right now and can only keep 3 of these guys.

Dukes
Niemann
Gallardo
Fernando Martinez
McCutchen
Brignac

I've got Abreu, Manny and Vlad in my OF.
I've got C Zambrano, Santana, Carpenter, Pedro, Schilling, and Escobar in my rotation.
I've got C Guillen and Furcal at SS.
I've got A Gonzales and Delgado at DH/1b.

Up to this point, I was planning on keeping Gallardo, McCutchen, and Niemann. Because I thought they were all the closest to the majors, high ceiling, and addressed areas of my team that are aging.

Niemann was a lock, but now is on the bubble since he left the AFL with shoulder issues.

Dukes was out until his recent seemingly good behavior and fair AFL performance.

I was leaning a little towards FMart over Cutch until the BA top 20s came out with Cutch being the unanimous selection as the best prospect in the SAL over FMart and Tabata. When all the managers tag him as better, with no dissent, that's tough to ignore.

So now I'm kinda thinking Cutch, FMart and Gallardo.

What do you think?

Minor League Ball Jeff Niemann...

I've been following him since he rejoined Montgomery, but I was wondering if anyone has had a chance to catch a game.

I read a summary of an early July game which had him in the low-90s and topping out at 95. That seems a little off from what he was pre-injury.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone has had a chance to catch one of his games, and if you have, then to know what you think. His numbers are pretty good considering the length of his layoff. Is he back to what he once was? Do you think the DRays could call him up? What do you think his future is?

Minor League Ball Arredondo...

Been following this guy for a litle while, and just picked him up in my keeper league. Couldn't resist a pitcher dominating the Cali league like he has this season.

I know he's a 22 year old SS convert, he throws heat, and I've seen conflicting reports about what he uses as his second pitch, a slider or a change.

I couldn't find a good BA-style scouting report on him, outside of the blurb he got in the Pioneer league top 20.

I was wondering if anyone had an opinion or any other information about him. Does anyone know of a successful position player to pitcher covert?

I saw some posts from SoCalFan (I think that's the nick) on this site about him, which were helpful.

Any comments would be great!

Minor League Ball Trade Opinions...

I'm contemplating a deal of Kearns, Chris Young (the now SD pitcher) and a little something else for Pedro.

I'm in a straight points league, not a category league. We have weekly lineups. We can freeze 20 players each year. We have a standard hitter lineup (1 at each pos including DH, then a total of 3 OFers) plus 4 starters and 2 relievers.

A condition of this trade is that the guy I'm trading with will hold Young until after the freeze, effectively giving me a 21 man roster.

Here's my current 20 man roster:

1b      Delgado, Carlos
2b     Durham, Ray
3b     Chavez, Eric
C     Kendall, Jason
OF     Abreu, Bobby
OF     Ramirez, Manny
OF     Griffey, Ken
Pros     Verlander
Pros     Salty
Pros     Markasis
Pros     Papelbon
RP     Rivera, Mariano
RP     Wagner, Billy
SP     Carpenter, Chris
SP     Clemens, Roger
SP     Escobar, Kelvim
SP     Martinez, Pedro
SP     Santana, Johan
SP     Zambrano, Carlos
SS     Furcal, Rafael

Obviously I have my own opinions about it, but what do you think? Should I fix what ain't broke (since I won the league last year)? Or should I sell high with Pedro and buy low with Kearns?

Minor League Ball Does MLB destroy franchises on purpose?

Not really a real question because it seems obvious that Loria is MLB's franchise hatchet man.

But the question is, do you really believe they are doing it on purpose? Why would they do it? Loria went to great lengths to destroy the Marlin fan base, is it done as an excuse to justifiably move the club? I mean he did the same thing with the expos.

Just I'm just frustrated that MLB would let Loria take on another club and do the same thing to the Marlins that he did to the expos, until the spos finally moved.
