The Panthers finally decided on a defensive coordinator and it is Ron Meeks.

http://blogs.charlotte.com/panthers/2009/01/panthers-hire-meeks-as-defensive-coordinator.html

That's the good news.

The bad news is that when he resigned from the Colts I was reading the comments at profootballtalk.com (http://www.profootballtalk.com/2009/01/20/meeks-resigns-from-the-colts/) and many of the complaints sounded a lot like the Panthers fan complaints about Mike Trgovac. I personally think this is a good hire for the Panthers, if not a predictable one, simply because John Fox seems to favor experience coordinators. Meeks ran Dungy's Tampa 2 defense in Indy, and Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis ran up some good numbers in his defense. Of course, this will be Fox's defense, so I am interested to see how they mesh together. It makes me nervous to see the Indy fans that posted about Meeks, just because it seems like those that made comments seemed happy to see him go.

What does everyone think about this hire? Good move or do you think it doesn't really matter with John Fox as the head coach, the defense is still going to look very similar to what was seen under Trgo?
