The offseason
In a way, I think I like the Offseason better than the season. It is very exciting to have the GM chess match going on. It is exciting to hear macha getting fired, disappointing to hear washington got hired by the Rangers, and suspenseful waiting for the A's to sign Frank Thomas. It is also always a mystery to find out what Billy Beane is going to do. Maybe he will somehow sign Zito back or get Mulder for cheap. It is just fun to see what happens every day and that isn't including all the things Lew Wolff has been doing. Then after the offseason is over you get to watch how all the moves will play out and try to analyze everything that could have been while watching "Your Oakland (Fremont, San Jose) Athletics" blossom into a world series contender. So, I am excited the offseason has started. I guess it isn't the destination that makes everything memorable but the journey along the way. And this is just the beggining.
Have fun and enjoy the offseason my fellow Athletics Nation Friends!!!!
The Thrill of the Journey
I am a fan of baseball and the Oakland Athletics for the ups and downs, for the roller coaster ride, for the passion, for the memories well spent and the ones to come. It is all for the thrill of the journey! I want the A's to win the world series so I can go crazy and beam with delight. But I know a week later I am going to be thinking, "What are the A's going to do next year to get better and to return to the series." The series is the ultimate goal, but the journey is were all the memories are. Man, it was so much fun to ditch work to see a wednesday day game. It is so great walking into the stadium and seeing that beautiful field, smelling the freshly cut grass, watching fans jump for foul balls and hoping one comes my way. My wife loves to see the fireworks and I drive her crazy because I always want to go onto the field. It seems like sacred ground. I get the chills just stepping foot on it. Just rooting for the players, finding out about there different personalities, and dreaming of being a big leaguer is some of best times I have had. And being with my dad, my brothers, my wife, and soon my baby daughter at games brings the happiest fellings to me. All these memories are connected to the thrill of the journey that we call Oakland A's baseball. That is why I am a fan!
