With strong play in the last several weeks, Dwight Howard has closed the gap between himself and LeBron James in John Hollinger's Player Efficiency Ratings, or PER. Current standings show: 1. James, 26.73 2. Howard, 26.64 ; a difference of just .09. For comparison, the difference between second-place Howard and third-place Dwyane Wade is a whopping 1.47. 

So what we have is apparently a two horse race for PER leader. Using the PER calculations found at the following link:
