The Pitchers 2004 vs. 2010
Shapiro has often said that he was forced to rebuild the roster when he took over, and that the cupboard was bare. I think he came to a similar conclusion last year, and used the assets he had at the major league level to start the same process on an accelerated timetable. In this way, you could say that rather than having to go through the 2002 and 2003 seasons, the Indians get to skip from 2001 to 2004.
I want to examine the status of the roster today versus the roster at the most comparable period in the recent past (2004), so I will start with the pitching depth.

Weglarz Crushes People
The powerfully built Weglarz said he weighed 215 pounds when he was 12 or 13 years old.
"I played hockey and that helped," said Weglarz. "I crushed kids."
Spring Training Trip '07
So I wanted to tell this story last year, but I figured it would be more appropriate to post it after the Tribe started at their new spring training home. This takes place in March of 2007.

Dave, Buffalo NY: Your earlier comment on Mills, is he Ryan Garko in the majors?
Keith Law: (1:30 PM ET ) This is my fear.
Yes? No?
NOOOO!!!
Per Tony Lastoria (who is at the Kinston game), Weglarz went down holding his calf in the game tonight. Couldn't put any pressure on it while walking off the field.
