Blazers Reportedly Interested in Any Current NBA GM/AGM. Anyone.
Tualatin, OR
It has been reported that the Portland Trailblazers, in an unprecedented move, initiated a league wide conference call with every NBA team last night asking permission to speak with any current GM or AGM who may be even remotely interested in their GM vacancy.

My 2012-13 Roster
As fruitful as the upcoming draft is, I am not in any hurry to go into "full rebuild mode" and would rather see us go in the "reload" direction. Maybe if LA was a few years younger I would be more excited about pairing him with (INSERT KU PLAYER HERE).
The Trailblazer's draft picks, cap space, and select current personnel make it very likely that the "reload" option would bear immediate success. I have put together my latest dream roster which you can see after the jump. Interested in what others think. I would like to see Lin understudy Nash for two seasons and then have Nash support Lin off the bench for our first NBA Championship since 1977!

Haberstroh: Comparing LaMarcus Aldridge To Tim Duncan
Tom Haberstroh writes on ESPN Insider that Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge could be the heir apparent to San Antonio Spurs forward Tim Duncan...
-------------------------
The parallels between Aldridge and Duncan are hard to ignore. Physically, they are cut from the same mold, standing 6-foot-11 and weighing around 250 pounds. They entered the league at the same age as 21-year-olds, armed with inside-out shooting touches that justified their lofty prospect status. Aldridge was selected second in the 2006 draft behind Andrea Bargnani, while Duncan was the first name called by NBA commissioner David Stern on June 25, 1997.
...
How can Aldridge perfect his Duncan imitation? Get working on the boards. In his prime, Duncan was a monster, pulling down almost 13 rebounds a night or 19 percent of the available boards while on the floor. Statistically, Aldridge is no better than average when it comes to cleaning up the glass, posting just a 13.5 percent rebound rate last season. For reference, the average Joe power forward grabbed 13.9 percent in 2010-11. It doesn't help that Portland teammate Marcus Camby swallows up a ton of the misses that carom off the rim, but with Aldridge's size and athleticism, he has plenty of room to grow on the boards.

Former Blazer makes good in Euroleague
Marcus Brown, taken 46th overall in 1996 by the Portland Trailblazers, has had a stellar career overseas.
The 21st Pick: A Brief History
In honor of today being Draft Lottery selection day I thought it would be appropriate to bring back my wildly popular "A Brief History of Draft Picks" series from 2008. To see how teams have fared with the number 21 overall draft pick in recent history, have a look-see below.

Bogut on loss: "They got blown out yesterday in Chicago, and they came out motivated," he said after scoring 12 points and grabbing eight rebounds. "They had something to prove tonight. They needed this win."
Poll: How do you like it?
A few times every season those of us fortunate enough to live within KGW's broadcast area and under the tyrannical rule of Comcast get the opportunity to choose between two separate simulcasts of the same game. One broadcast is provided by our good friends at Blazers Broadcasting, the other by the large corporate-driven conglomerate - either ABC/ESPN or TNT. Which poses the question - are you a big, glitzy national type or do you prefer to stick with your boys, Mike & Mike, to the bitter end? Let everyone know by selecting an option below.
OT - Stein on Melo: Deal waiting on extension...
I know it's just another ESPN rumor but it's been getting an absurd amount of play all day today...
Nets get Carmelo Anthony
Charlotte gets Devin Harris
Utah gets Boris Diaw
Denver gets Derrick Favors and Andrei Kirilenko
Nuggets looking to move J.R. Smith
Never been a big fan of his off-court decisions but his 3pt shooting ability in unquestioned. Wonder how much room he could create for Roy and our bigs roaming the perimeter? What would we have to give up? Hmmm...
Completely Unconfirmed Rumors
One of my employees claims to be good friends with the "assistant head of scouting" for our Portland Trailblazers. I am in no way claiming this is a solid lead but this particular employee is no liar. Here is what he said his friend told him about upcoming events this offseason....

He's very comfortable as a scorer. He knows he has many option to choose from to get the ball in the bucket. He plays the game with a great pace -- not unlike James Harden. That allows him to let plays develop. He's going to be very effective in his shot-fake attack game."
More Tom Penn on ESPN
Is anybody else sick of people getting kicked out of the Blazer organization and ending up famous? Just sayin'.
OT: Bhullar Bros.
Check out these 7-foot brothers from India. This article sounds like one I read about Greg Oden his sophomore year of HS when I was in Syracuse, NY.
Trade? Trade who?
I know I don't have to tell anyone who follows NBA-related news that this time of year is dominated by trade rumors, speculations, exaggerations, and misdirection. As fans of a team that is struggling (compared to lofty expectations), although for completely legitimate reasons, we are obviously not immune to the sensationalism that is the NBA trade deadline.
I hear far too often that the Blazers must make a move. If we made any move it would be completely senseless unless it benefited us for the long term, not to just get into the playoffs or have a legitimate shot at the second round. That would just be a move toward mediocrity. If we want to make a move for a quality player with long-term benefits we will have to part with more than just expiring contracts, injured players, cap space, and draft picks. Below is a list of the three young, talented players mentioned the most in regards to trade rumors, player value perception, and the future of the franchise. I wouldn't trade any of them and have given a brief description of why.

"You gotta be careful with Andre Miller's 19 points in 19 minutes. You don't want it to be fool's gold because the Trailblazers only have 5 assists. At some point Andre Miller's offensive efficiency will go down and the ball needs to get distributed and others need to come to the party because you're going to need more than just Andre to beat Dallas on their home court."

Bleacher Report Demands Blazers Get Bosh
This guy is absolutely convinced. Is he right or would this set us up for yet another "d'oh!!" if either of the three (sorry, Trout) players we send off end up being legit superstars?
RE: Today's practice - Everybody stay calm!
As I'm sure most of you have already read / heard, there was apparently a little disagreement between our prized free agent acquisition, Andre Miller, and head coach Nate McMillan at this morning's practice. I've already recieved many tweets regarding this subject, especially from The Columbian's Brian T. Smith (if you're not reading his stuff, you're missing out). Here is my take on today's "event".

Big Man Watch: Jeff Foster
"Without Greg Oden or Joel Przybilla the rest of the season, the Trail Blazers could have a tough time stacking up with the Lakers' size, so Foster has an immediate role there. If Utah ends up dealing Carlos Boozer, Foster could fill in behind Paul Millsap." - excerpt from ESPN Insider
Big Man Watch: Golden State is waiving Mikki Moore today so the Dubs can keep Chris Hunter as their 15th man.
Miami Herald: What They Are Saying
Today's (12/21) article from the Miami Herald re: last night's contest.
Should Brandon Roy start at PG?
First of all let me tell you how much I love Brandon Roy and how completely ecstatic I am that he is a Portland Trailblazer. I believe that he is one of the three best overall players in the league today and is fast on his way to becoming the type of player who automatically gets any team he is on thinking about championships. I believe Brandon's skills and psychological make-up make him the type of all-star who transcends the traditional positions. I also believe that if he needs the ball in his hands to be successful then we need to put it in his hands. He needs to be our starting point guard.
Another Pro-Andre Post
I just wanted to address this Andre Miller situation and everyone else who is buying into ESPN's theory (see box 7, scroll down) that we only signed Andre to turn our cap space into a trade-able asset.

Hunch: Andre Miller starts TONIGHT...
LOCKER ROOM MATERIAL:
"I’m excited. I know by me being undersized, coaches and a lot of players, only a couple of them, feel they have an easy bucket going against me. If they try to go to Oden early or go to Aldridge for a basket, they’ve got another thing coming."
VOTE FOR ROY!!!
There is a poll up on the home page for NBA.com asking who will have the best opening night performance. Roy is one of the options and as of right now, he's last (4%).
I say we show the rest of the league who owns the internets: BLAZER FANS!
Go right now, don't wait, and vote for Brandon Roy!
Having Fun with the Suns
Here is a post I made at Phoenix's SBN sight "Bright Side of the Sun". Not getting much play - must not appreciate my sense of humor.
