I am a 25 year old, currently working as an engineer out in Western Michigan. I have always been a huge fan of Buffalo sports and culture, and I would love to see this area complete a sport and economic turnaround within my lifetime. While it has been recent, I have become a NHL advanced statistics junkie; and for those who want it, I am more than willing to share my habit.

How did the Sabres do this Off-Season? (A GVT analysis)

Inspired by the Hockey Prospectus article that analyzed the Philadelphia Flyers off-season, I wanted to examine how the Buffalo Sabres acquisitions would improve our Goals Versus Threshold (GVT)...

SI: Top 10 NHL Goalie Masks 1967-1982

Not sure how familiar may of you are with older goalie masks, but here is a slideshow of some of the best goalie masks of the late 60s, 70s, and early 80s. Some of the designs really show how eccentric NHL net minders really can be. For example here is an explanation of Gillies Gratton's lion mask: "A revolutionary design by Harrison, this snarling lion was created for Gratton, a Leo and firm believer in astrology who one night informed his coach he could not play because the stars were not properly aligned." I also watched an hour show on Versus that discussed the creation of goalie masks (Jacques Plante) and had Kevin Weekes give interviews of older goalies who had played with and without masks. The title of the show eludes me now, but I definitely found it quite interesting. Anyways, hope you enjoy.

Should the Sabres Front Office pursue Brad Richards?

While reading Katemc's recent fanpost "The bidding starts now," I saw how different our opinions are on the acquirement of Brad Richards.  Personally even after Stafford's signing, I still think we...

Thrashers, Atlanta were never given a chance

AJC blogger Jeff Schultz details his perspective on the Thrasher move to Winnipeg. I personally feel for the fanbase; while they are small, I feel that the failure of the franchise is due to an extremely poor ownership and management team....this then lead to a poor turnout at the turnstiles.

Lalime's legacy: beloved teammate

Real nice article by Bill Hoppe on Lalime's situation in Buffalo the last two years. I definitely think its worth a read.

WGR550 - Pominville Out, Roy Very Close

Derek Roy is "very, very close" while Pominville is out. I would not be surprised if he is gone for the playoffs if they cut is as bad as it sounds. Missing him on PK and PP will be a huge loss. On the other hand, Derek Roy being close will be a great boost to our team. Lets hope for the best for Pommers :).
