OT: Sorry to jack a post...
...I am a Giants fan and former Seattle resident, moving to Anchorage, driving through Seattle at the end of June. I will be in town for part of the FLA and ATL series' and would like to take my little boy with me to a couple games. Seeing as the last game I was at was in the Kingdome, I was hoping to solicit some answers and advice from you gaiz.
Are the 9 dollar RF seats worth the bargain?
Where would be a good place to sit, not wanting to spend more than $20 on each ticket?
How quickly does the Metro get from SeaTac to the Field? What are the best food vendors?
And, finally, how is SafeCo for BP?
A chance to vote for Matt Cain...
There is an ESPN contest for the greatest Fanwich in sports. Ike's Place, in The City, has two entries in the top 10. The Jim Rome, and the Matt Cain. Let's see if we can vote enough to put the Matt Cain over the top. It's here:
http://apps.facebook.com/espn_fanwiches/sandwiches/details/id/52
Currently, the Matt Cain has 238 votes, and is 787 votes behind the leader. If Ike's sandwich wins, it will be served at the ESPN cafeteria in Bristol.
What promises did YOU make and have to reconcile?
I remember a commercial back in 2004, when the Red Sox ended their Championship drought, in which a couple's first-born son is being taken to a truck and the husband is freaking out because he had promised the kid and was now "paying the piper."
So what promises did you all make that you will have to live up to for this Giants Championship? Mine is in black and white and on the internets. During the Cubs/Padres series in the last week of the season, I made a promise that I fully intend on keeping. I had a feeling on that day that it would come true. It was just short of a premonition because I still had questions, and, let's face it, I have been a Giants fan for 36 years and, as a result, not an optimist. So...here, it is my time to face the music:
If the Cubs win today, and the Giants win the World Series, I will wear a Cubs hat EVERY DAY in 2011.
Fathaigh go mbuaimid!
I AM PAT BURRELLZ'Z DADDY! (wait, that doesn't sound right)

Rangers fans in SF
The Rangers are staying at the Westin St. Francis Hotel on Geary at Union Square. Just FYI for any autograph seekers.
Also: from an article on HULIQ - The Texas Rangers are visiting San Francisco on Wednesday and Thursday for the first two games of the World Series. Lefty O'Douls, a restaurant and bar founded and named for the San Francisco native and former major leaguer, has a plan in mind to keep them awake.
The Texas Rangers will be staying at the Westin St. Francis hotel. The hotel is just across the street from Lefty O'Douls.
"We're going to try to keep the Texas Rangersawake at night by playing a trumpet across the street and playing a song from the Alamo,"" Lefty o"Douls' spokesman John Fair told local TV station KRON 4's Will Tran. He added that Giants fans hope the "serenading" will keep the Rangers players awake at night, giving the Giants an edge.
If it works (and likely, if it were to happen, cops would be called and the "music" shut down), the Rangers could be in for more than two days without sleep. The forecast is for showers Thursday through Sunday, though the word "few" was inserted in front of "showers" in the Thursday forecast.
Rangers team hotel.
Radnich said to Tony Bruno that Lefty O'Douls has a trumpet player that will be standing outside of the restaurant playing to annoy the Rangers as the Rangers are staying across the street. This would of course, put the Rangers in the Westin St. Francis. Just FYI. I am going to let LSB jnow, in case they want to autograph hunt.

(WAY) OT (and kinda weird): McCoven Cafe?
So, I was thinking...which I realize I probably should do less...and it amuses me that we have so many food conversations in threads. We have such a diversity in here, as far as backgrounds go, so much to share, and a love of food, with enough of us ranging from amateur to advanced foodies, that I thought it would be interesting to create a compendium of the things we like to eat and prepare.
So, I propose, that I shall put together a collection of McCoven recipes, all properly credited, in a website. Obviously there needs to be enough interest, and it won't make sense without a large number of contributions, so here's the deal:
1. email to me 1-3 of your favorite and reasonable to put together recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, etc. They can be something you make for yourself, family, or even a catering/dinner party or get-together dish.
2. Make sure to send along your McCoven username so I can properly credit you.
3. Get creative with the names of the dishes, and even work in Giants themes, McC memes, etc.
4. I will create the website, compile all the entries, and tag and categorize them.
5. If you would like, include pictures of themes, ingredients, or even finished dishes, for me to include.
I may be a morran, but this seems like it would be fun, and I'm down to do it.

Thank you Aubrey!
I understand the relationship between the Giants and Aubrey Huff is symbiotic. He needed the Giants this year as much as they needed him. I, for one, was clamoring for the Giants to get him in 2009, but had a change in thinking that offseason and was NOT enthusiastic about his signing. For that, I am sorry, the level of character and gamertudeshipness that Huff Daddy brought to the Giants, the City of San Francisco, the region of Northern Californa, the Giants' fan base, and my heart...was unprecedented as far as "questionable" free agent signings go.
Take care of this man Patty...take good care of this man.

Nicknames
Just read some of the Urban chat, and I was reminded of something that drives me nuts.
I hate, hate, HATE when Urban calls Matt Cain "Shotgun". IMHO it is a completely retarded nickname with NONE relevance. The great thing about baseball nicknames is that they relate to something. "The Freak" or "The Franchise" for Timmy. "Kung Fu Panda", cause that's what Pablo looks like. "Huff Daddy" plays off his name. "FBAL" is self-explanatory.
In high-school, Matt Cain's nickname was "Big Sugar." I LOVE that for him. Can we please, through a phone call on the weekend or in a chat, lobby Urban to stop with the "Shotgun" and just have everybody call him "Big Sugar"? Please? Do I have to be the one who does this? Cause I have no problem if nobody else wants to step up.
ITT: Your favorite nicknames for as many players in the org. as possible. (I have to work now, but I'll post mine later in the AM.)
OT: New Music
A bunch of good new music has been released lately. I really dig The Sword's new record 9although not as much as the first two), I like the Jenny & Johnny stuff...but this is about something else. There is another band, very popular around here, and for whom I have had great respect and affection for a long while, that today has blown my ass off.
...Of Montreal - False Priest, may be the greatest album I have ever heard.
For one thing, it inspired a FanPost by me. But more importantly, for one band to cut a record that elicits reminiscences of Bowie, Abba, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, The Cars, The Cure, Pink Floyd, Daft Punk, French Pop, Doo-Wop, Motown and Wall of Sound, Disco, Jazz, Electronica/Dance, etc.as well as hip-hop alliterations, literary references, and social commentary, often on the same track, and with an amazing cohesiveness and individual sound such that you know who it is right away, is such an accomplishment in the era of cookie-cutter radio pablum, I can't get over it. I just can't.
You're welcome for the Andres Torres of sentences.
ITT: What are you listening to a lot of lately?

Halfway point. Where do the Giants go from here?
Well, we have reached halfway. The Giants have played 3 wins below their expected win total based on run differential (technically due to chance, I say due to Bochy), are in the midst of a brutal losing jag and road trip, and are in even worse shape than at this point last year.
After 81 games in 2009, the Giants were 44-37 and 7.5 games back of the Dodgers. They are currently 7.5 behind the Pads, but are off their own pace from 2009. The Giants have lost more games this year, even with Zito's resurgence, Huff playing to his ceiling, and Posey being with the team this last month or so.
So what do you guys think happens in the second half of the season? Does Sabean make drastic changes, or does he stand pat because we were in it last year even at 7.5 back with 81 left ? Do we turn around our record in one run games? Do we suddenly start winning on the road? How about in the division? Or is this the team we got?
MCC SABR Fantasy League needz moar teamz!
Second request for teams. The scoring is SABR style and should be interesting cause it's different.
So far we're about halfway full. The draft will be random of course so nobody knows who's going to take John Bowker with the first pick.
