My Results From Live Draft
So, the current installment of the live draft is going on over at Mocking the Draft. I was able to be the GM during this installment, and had many ideas going into it. I wanted to stay mostly put, because that is what I believe Nix will do. Well, the first round was anything but predictable and normal, here in the link to the current Draft Tracker.
With everything going like it did, I strayed a little from my plan and decided to move a little

Your Opinion is Valued
Hey fellow Rumblers, I’m the GM over at Mocking the Draft's recent live draft. We were asked to put together a 7 round BPA list with 7 players per round. This got difficult after round 3 really, but i did the best I could. I have no problems making changes to it. Honestly, I really used a mix of BPA and needs after round 2. I feel out biggest need now that we have eliminated the recent biggest need of a DE is tackle. If we bring Bell back, this changes to CB and then WR.
Listed below is what i came up with, please feel free to rip it a new one and help me out.
Also, there is an opening for a backup GM on our team, so let me know if you want to do it, or you can head over there yourself and put your name in for it.
Pre-combine Mock
So I finally decided to put together a quick pre-combine mock draft.
My top 5 needs in order are DE, OLB, WR, CB and QB
Quarterback would be higher if it were not for the big contract we just handed Fitz. It is still in the top 5 because we need to find someone to groom and mature for a few years. A clear plan and succession plan at QB is something that good teams do and it makes life easier when your hand is forced into a new QB sooner than you may have expected.
I think WR will be mostly addressed in FA, and I’m hoping they bring back Johnson, but I’m leaning toward the scenario where they let him walk and bring in a top FA like Jackson, Bowe or Colston
This mock was based off of the latest mock over at WalterFootball. In this format, I go down their draft, and take whatever player I want that has yet to be drafted.
I’d love to move around a little with our extra pick, but from Nix’s first two drafts, I just don’t see it as a real possibility
Young Wide Receivers and Steve Johnson
Can Steve Johnson Become an Elite Wide Receiver?
In this recent article on BB.com, Stevie discusses his intentions to become considered in the conversation of elite young receivers in the league. Whether or not you believe he is already there, he does not. This is a good and bad thing. You never want your players to feel that they have arrived or accomplished their greatness. You want players to feel that they always have something to learn and that they can always improve their craft. This is good, but also raises a possible negative idea in whether or not Stevie feels that he can do that in Buffalo.
"I believe I can be considered with this young generation of receivers… my name can be mentioned," Johnson said. "That’s as far as I can go because I don’t have any playoff games under my belt. I don’t have any winning seasons under my belt or any individual accolades like Pro Bowls or first team or things like that.
I guess it comes down to whether or not Stevie feels that this team still is on the rise. In the two seasons where he has found success, the team as only managed to win 9 games. It is possible that he has lost some faith. I believe that this opinion will play a huge role in Stevie’s willingness to resign here. I understand that he has so far said all of the right things and that he wants to remain in Buffalo, but I expect that right now.
Consistency?
Gailey does not simply write this off as a depth scenario, but offers it as a very possible situation if he shows more "consistency". This goes hand and hand with Chad Rinehart at left guard.
Posluzny to test the market
What ya guys think? Hopfully the Bills will match all of the offers and he really wants to stay.
Some Moats Love
I did not realize he had 3 sacks last year, I thought it was 2. That is good production for the time he got. I can’t wait to see him in action this year.
How it is possible that Maybin has been quiet is crazy
Bills Fan Picking for the Phins
I posted last week and got a lot of good input from you guys and i appreciate it. So we are now one pick away from your pick and I thought I would stop back and let you know who has been taken so far and what I was thinking as the best options.
Bills fan picking for the Phins in our community mock
Hey, just looking for some input on your biggest needs and top players you guys have in mind for the coming draft. I have read over here that many people like Mallet and Ingram at 15. I have been thinking that I would draft the BPA thinking that some top talent will surely fall. Would you be interested in a guy like J.J. Watt if he were to fall? Pouncy could be there, as well as Castonzo.
Maybe ill post the 14 guys taken before me when they come in,
Thank for the help.
Telling Statements from Chan Gailey on Buffalo's Draft Strategy
Via the one and only Timothy Graham:
And what kind of vote does owner Ralph Wilson have?
"He is the boss," Gailey said. "He has all influence, every bit of influence. He says, 'Take this guy,' we take him. But he's smart enough not to do that. He hired people to do a job. He lets them do their job. He's letting us do our job. That's what I've seen."
Fred Jackson underrated in this league?
In this Chris Brown story, Brown discusses a recent ProFootballFocus survey amongst current NFL running backs. Fred Jackson comes out second behind 2010 undrafted rookie standout LeGarrette Blount.
Amongst Bills fans Fred is a bright spot on an otherwise starless roster, but many on the outside still may not know who this guy is. Even though I want Spiller more involved this year, i am torn because he is so good and gives us our best chance to win games. Last year, when given the ball atleast 20 times (which was only 5 times), Jackon averaged 99.6 yards. In the 3 games where Jackson eclipsed 100, we won all of them.
Even though his and Spillers running styles are different, I’m glad we have a guy like Fred to teach Spiller how to wait for things to happen in front of him and to be patient as a runner. Both C.J. Spiller and Jackson are high character guys who have zero problems off the field. Jackson is a much better influence on and off the field than Lynch would have been, and I for one am greatful for this.
Yet Another Mock, It helps the anticipation till the real thing
I tried to use the mock strategy that Joe. P outlined in his last mock draft. This mock would be a dream come true, that’s why I don't think it will happen.
Quick Mock...everyone is doing it
Just rounds 1-4 nice and simple
Round 1: Nick Fairley, DT AU-The first 3 picks could really go any way, but I think we will end up with Green or Fairley depending on what Carolina does, I think Peterson at 2 is a lock.
Round 2: Jake Locker, QB WU- He may not fall this far, but it is very possible with the year he had and the amount of QB's in this draft. They may also look for a guy like Demarcus Love here.
Round 3: Robert Sands, SS WVU - Looks like we are gunna lose Whittner and this is going to be a hole that needs a quick fix. The possibility of a guy like this to fall to the 3rd is possible but is linked to the bottom of the 2nd round in many drafts. The guy is huge and 6-4 220 and could help with stopping the run.
Round 4: Lee Ziemba, RT AU - Looked good in the championship, even though Oregon had a smaller defense. He could be a good fit at RT and bring some stability to the weakest position on the offense
If Green is there for us at 3, moving down to 6 to trade with Cleveland is a possibility and could really open up some possibilities for us in this draft.
BCS Championship: Auburn V.S. Oregon open game thread
Should be a fun game, Good time to get your last look at:
Ducks:
QB: Darron Thomas
RB: Kenjon Barner, Darron Thomas and LaMichael James
WR: Jeff Maehl
LB: Casey Matthews
Tigers:
QB: Cameron Newton
DT: Nick Fairley
WR: Darvin Adams
Cam and Nick Fairley have the best chance of becoming a Bill, Cam would be interesting and resembles last year with Tebow. Fairley is the more popular pick to help sure up our run defense.
Reason for Fitzpatrick's Success
I was pondering today why Ryan Fitzpatrick has looked so good the past few weeks and one possible big contributor to this may be the swift cutting of Trent Edwards. I don’t think that he is scared for his job, but rather that he senses and sees the confidence displayed toward himself for possibly the first time in his career. Fitz could have easily failed in these games, and we would be in big trouble and would only have Brohn to fall back on (whose name has not even been whispered around here in the past 4 weeks due to the success of Fitz), but he has not and has been one of the top 5 QB’s in the league in that time frame.
Players only meeting
I think this could be good and something that I never heard the recent squads do.
Some good words from some vets could maybe put some urgency in these young guys.
What do you guys think?
I like Fitz
I'm sure everyone has watched this by now but i just did. I like the way he addresses the media compared to Trent. I always felt Trent was short with them and acted as if he did not want to be there.
Also, I know Fitz will be more interesting to watch and go deep. That ball that he threw to T.O last year was so awsome and so perfect. Trent would never dare to try that on the 2.
Tight Ends?
Where was the TE use tonight? One reception for four yards? No Shawn Nelson? Keeping the playes a secret for the reg season maybe?
The First Pre-Season Game of the Season
I was actually surprised no one had an open-thread for it, but this is too late now but join in if you want. Man it feels so good to have Football on. It has not been that exciting, but i love it being on just the same. Does it not make your new HD TV's look so good?
There was one thing that bothered me from this game. They guys playing to impress the coaches are hurting each other. They are going out trying to make lasting impressions on the staff and the guys they are hitting. With our recent injury problems, they need to be careful throughout the pre-season schedule. Close late hits and lack of experience has stood out to me tonight.
Woo Hooo LIVE football!
Crazy, Outlandish and Farfetched
There have been talks recently discussing Tom Brady and his current frustrations with his contract situation in New England. It has become somewhat clear that the front office has no interest in doing anything about it this year, probably due to the uncertainties of next year’s season.
Spiller, the best player on the Bills?
Apparently Ryen Russillo presented this idea to Tim Grahm and Grahm agrees.
I think this is a classic ESPN naïve representation of the current weaker teams in the league. Spiller obviously may have the most untapped potential on the team, but the best player is an overstatement. He acknowledges the fact that he has never played a down in the NFL but still holds true to his ridiculous belief.
Who do you believe is the best player on the Bills?
Or do you agree with this statement regarding our new speedy acquisition?
Why I love Fred Jackson
The stuff about Gailey is good too, but what Jackson says at 1:32 is why I love this guy. He has the right attitude and the right motivation.
Guys like this are why I want them to be good. I hope Nix and Gailey can get these guys to billeave in themselves and in this town.
Not Exactly Inspiring
Pay close attention to the beginning
Funny coincidence or sad reality?
I know this does not really mean anything, but it is funny.
My One and Only Mock of the Year
I decided to wait until the night before to do a mock. This is without trades, even though i think we would benefit from dropping back and getting Dan Williams in the 1st, Rodger Saffold or Charles Brown in the second and move up in the second with some picks (3rd and a 6th) and get Tony Pike or Tebow in the later second.
We need to fill a lot of holes and it is going to take this year and next at the least. Our defense is young and talented for the most part. Mcgee, Mckelvin and Florence are a good secondary. Maybin, Davis, Poz and Mitchell/Rookie are a solid LB 3/4 core. Edwards-Williams/Harvey-Stroud is a good D line. We will need to fill the NT and replace Stroud. Williams or Spencer can fill that hole if need be for a few years.
More short sited opinions of Buffalo
Tim Graham failed to notice the signing of Andra Davis, he must be so excited about the rest of the AFC East it slipped his mind.
Tim is usually ok, but just like the rest of the ESPN crew he loves to jump on the excitement.
Thanks Tim for telling us something we already know.
Pittsburgh signs Jonathan Scott off Bills FA list
Well they guy who coached him all year obviously thought that he was worth a look
Makes me think maybe we should have done something to get him back as depth
Shaun Rogers for Whitner
With the new contract to Scott and a good tender on Wilson we are good at safety. He is 30 but has a few good years left. This would give us one less hole to fill this year and we could still try to get a NT in the draft and let him developed. He is listed at 6-4 350, good NT size What you think?
Cato June was still available?
Bears Sign June Why did we not sign this guy? Instead we put Scott out of position? We looked at this guy pre- season, he has got to be better than Scott. Don't get me wrong, Scott has been ok but these are things that I question.
