An Ode to Riley Cooper
This one goes out to Riley Cooper. 5 catches, 75 yards, 1 TD. And cascading golden locks that make the hearts of Philadelphia shiver with intrigue and lust.
Aly & A.J.-Walking On Sunshine (via JCF135135)
Some call him Training Camp Darling.
Some try to hate because his beautiful hair and long, smooth frame make him more worthy of sensual relationships than the Average Joe.
For he'll always be Sunshine. The yellow-haired savior of the Philadelphia Eagles, and dare I say, The American Dream.
You know you want it.

Musings on the Eagles Offense, TEs
So, who else lols whenever you see a pundit on ESPN say that "the Eagles don't like to run the ball. McCoy isn't good up the middle, they want to air it out." Dilfer on Sportscenter today made me spit my coffee. I just find it funny that they don't want to believe that we are far and away the best running team in the NFL (20 yards/game more than the #2 team, the Oakland Raiders on the back of Darren McFadden).
What's even more interesting, that d-jackfan10 pointed out in another thread, is that Andy may be the highest Yards Per Carry coach for runningbacks of all time. I mean. Holy shit guys. We are the best running team in the game and our star halfback has 28 and 30 carries in his last two outings. Talk about changing of Big Red's tide.

Pictured: A rumbler, tumbler type of TE. Not a smooth, fluid type.
-To business: I'm intrigued by our TEs right now. What people seem to think is that Celek has been in to block a lot this year. Wrong. He has gone out on more pass patterns per game than any other year. In fact, after his breakout year in 09, the trend started. Last year, he had more plays without "chipping" than the previous, and for most of this year, way, waaay more than last.
The trend broke last night. As Andy said in the presser, "Brent [at least] chipped on every single play." Huh. How about that. His numbers are directly correlated to the amount of time he does blocking. If anything, this is a restatement of things we know. He is not an elite athlete - he is no Vernon Davis or Jimmy Graham. Celek is at his best when utilized like a true TE. He was used that way last night, and we saw what that brought to the West Coast Offense.
You guys might remember the days of people saying, "Donovan McNabb runs his offense best when he gets the ball to the TE." It isn't just 5, it is the system. We run a more wide open version of the system with more spread elements, but the system is at its core the West Coast Offense.
-As for our other budding TE, Clay Harbor, all I can say is 'wow.' That guy has surprised me. He is quietly one of the better (if not one of the best) blocking TEs in the league right now. Not bad for a guy who played WR in college. Physically speaking, he brings more to the table as a receiver than Brent. Smoother athlete, faster (pre-draft 40-yard-dash time of 4.58 vs. Brent's 4.79), and stronger (30 reps of 225 lbs [also, the most for any tight end in the 2010 draft] vs. Brent's 19).
Clay's ability to wham block has been one of the reasons we've run so well. The dude delivers a hell of a pop and can handle DEs/OLBs one-on-one rather well. For a particularly good example, check him out here on the left side of the formation taking in Brian Orakpo one-on-one in pass pro for 4 secondson a boot to his side.
Meanwhile, he is a fluid athlete, up there with the great L.J. Smith (whose number he hilariously sports).
http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/eagles/20111031_Paul_Domowitch__Eagles__Celek_catches_on_against_Cowboys.html
Domo points out here that we've been using two tight end sets more than ever to the aid of the run game, but I think we are only beginning to see what these two guys are capable of doing. I contend that Harbor in motion or even from a three point stance is our best big bodied WR. (Fun fact, his vertical jump is 40 goddamned inches. Wow.) We have yet to see what the emergence of a stronger run game and these two TEs will amount to, but I have a feeling that it will be fun as hell to watch.

Eagles at Terrelle Pryor's Pro-Day
He reportedly ran between a 4.38 and 4.41 on field turf, which equates to about a 4.34 - 4.37 on track like most players run their Pro Day 40 on.
Say what you want about his transgressions (and get over yourself if you say that you wouldn't take a free car as a college student), but this guy has pure athletic talent.
A Quarterback? I doubt it. As a receiver or a tight end? Might be one off the most fluid long striders I've seen in a while. I think he has some real potential. And much more than Matt Jones potential.
Eagles were there. Maybe they see it too.
I'd cough up a 4th rounder or so. But then again, we know that Al Davis will toss out a 2nd if not a 1st.
What about you?
Hey guys, Eagles fan here. I'm kind of curious as to what happened to Keith Rivers. He's listed as 4th on the depth chart at WLB. Has he completely busted? I loved him coming out of USC and was astounded when the Patriots took Mayo over him at 10th overall.
Do you guys thinks he makes the team?
Thanks
Sarah's Song - Censorship of a Short Story
This is not football related. I hope you all can understand. I guess this is something fresh in a world without any relevant football news. I am bursting at the seams right now and need to alleviate the pressure without rupturing and exploding. I need you guys right now.
My school, a rather prestigious NON-RELIGIOUS boarding school with a 'holier-than-thou' complex, has decided that my award winning fiction short story (in a nationwide contest - we will probably be seeing it in Vanity Fair in April of 2012) is too "touchy" to be published by the school. Well, I have shown it to friends, to our English department, and even to random people in the school community, and the consensus is that it accomplishes something important even though it is racy.
I am already in hot water with the school. If I were to do it my way and print out 200 copies and litter them across campus, I would be kicked out. So, if you guys will allow it, I would like to share it with you. I don't need responses, I just want people to see it. I don't care about fame or any of that crap, I just want to say something that needs to be said.
-And really quickly, my childhood best friend committed suicide in March. I didn't handle it well. I needed to find peace with everything, so I wrote. And I wrote. And I found a character. A character who I hated (and still hate) with all of my heart and soul. And I gave him a story. So, if you can tolerate, I offer you, my brothers and sisters and fellow Eagles fans, my magnum opus...
[Note: The above statements are fact. Everything after the jump is fiction. THIS STORY IS NOT THROUGH MY EYES. I AM NOT THE NARRATOR, AND THE EVENTS ARE ENTIRELY FICTIONAL.]
[Also, I am still looking for a name to give this person. I cannot in good conscience name this man. If you could toss a name or two that you like in the comments, I would be so appreciative. Thank you.]

B'n'Rs Top 99 Prospects
"Tell Nina that this is NOT ENOUGH HAIR GEL."
Draft Day is approaching my friends, and I am starting to get that feeling in my pants (no, not that one. I told you to wait in the van.) So, here is my first official Big Board. Top 99 Guys. A few notes on my first round grades, and one on a good friend of draftniks everywhere
Take it in. Mmm.
Freddex Searches for Love
Former Eagles' wide receiver Freddie Mitchell (aka Freddex aka "The Peoples' Champ" aka "The Sultan of Slot" aka "4th and 26" aka "I'd Like to thank my Hands for being so great") will be featured on Millionaire Matchmaker tonight. The only question: How does Freddex, that fucking tool-case, still have a million bucks to his name?
"Hey, I've got an offer you can't refuse."
Before I'm accused of flying off the handle in the fallout of last night's game, let me say that I have considered this since the Colts game:
What if we go one-and-done in the playoffs? Vick is hobbled, contained, picked off, etc…
It’s draft day. Andrew Luck has declared. The Panthers give us a call. "Hey, we’ll give you #1 overall, a 3rd, and next year's 1 and 2 for Vick." The options are bountiful. Andrew Luck (and subsequently trading Kolb). Da'Quan Bowers. Patrick Peterson. Prince Amukamara. Trading down.
Trent Cole #95 on NFL Top 100 List
Dude, you've got to be kidding me. He easily, I mean EASILY belongs in the top 30. He is the Eagle's best defensive player by a long shot, an i'd say the second best on the team overall (behind Djax).

Some legit "Rumors"
We all love to talk about how Eric Berry is a monster. I love him, you love him, your mother loves him (albeit for other reasons, but I digress)...we all know that Eric Berry is a beast of a player. Well, one of the hot rumors flying around Indianapolis is that not only will Berry fall out of the Top 3, but he will fall out of the top 7 picks. His personal stock has never fallen, but there is simply a growing sense that high-pick safties are simply never as good as they seem. Our most recent examples: Donte Whitner, Michael Huff, and LaRon Landry. Not exactly an allstar group.... We will see Berry go off the board in the 8-12 range, at highest. Book it.
[Pictured: Why having to take a crap and cover the Tight End are actually easy to do in unison.]
Another highly regarded safety, Earl Thomas, has a big time rumor flying about him as well. All the talk is the possibility of Earl moving to CB in the NFL. This is because of his less-than-amazing size at 5'10, 190 and his great anticipation, route reading, and ball skills. Some are even calling him, "The next Asante Samuel". For this reason, his stock is skyrocketing, with a possibility to surpass Eric Berry.
Also, I was recently directed to this clip (the first soundbite)

[Pictured: Functional Shoulder]
Yes, that is our Deity Adam Schefter telling it like it is: Sam Bradford will go #1 overall. If you don't agree with Shefter....then you may leave.
[Bow down my minions! Your master has had a vision...and it brings a douchey snicker to his face.]
But seriously, you can leave if you don't hang off of every syllable that comes out of his enlightened mouth.

A few notes:
I refuse to believe that anything other than a QB will be drafted #1 this year. The QB position is the most important one in football. With Spagnulo coming from Eagles' pedigree, and with Pat Shurmer (former Eagles QB coach) as his Offensive Coordinator, I have to believe that he will go by the logic that his forefathers Mike Holmgren and Andy Reid have upholded: A franchise is built upon, in order, a QB, protecting that QB, and then getting your opponent's QB.
The word is that Raiders scouts are going apeshit over Mike Iupati.

The Official Derrick Johnson Trade Forum
This is it...after watching Zach Miller and FB Gary Russell make a mockery of our linebackers, I think it is about time the FO realize the problems we have back there.

The Trade Block
Ladies and Gents, we're getting near that time of year. We've seen some big time deals go down, like the Roy Williams trade, over time, and as we inch closer to Tuesday's trade deadline, it is worth taking a look at who around the league is on "the block".
1. DT Glenn Dorsey, Chiefs
Dorsey was proclaimed the next Warren Sapp due to his amazing ability to get to the QB in college, and he had a nice year for a rookie DT last season, posting 42 tackles and a sack. This year, the Chiefs had an ownership overhaul and has moved to the 3-4 defense. Because Dorsey was more of a finesse DT, and only weighs 300 lbs, the NT position wasn't an option. However, the postion of 3-4 DE (which he has played at) isn't suited for him either, being as he is only 6-1.5 tall. The 3-4 DE position is more for tweener DT/DEs who are tall, such as 3rd overall pick Tyson Jackson; who interestingly enough played with Dorsey at LSU, albeit in a 4-3 defense with Dorsey as a nose tacke (Left DT in a 4-3) and Jackson at Left DE. Dorsey is built to play as a 4-3 nose tackle, and thus has no home on the Chiefs roster. Even better, the current Chiefs "people" (front office, head coach, etc) generally dislike Dorsey's upside. He will be traded at some point, most likely before the deadline because his cap hit is still minimal only being in the second year of his rookie 5 year deal, and he will go to a 4-3 team where he'll fit in.
He is the top guy on the market, being as he is just one year removed from being the 5th overall pick, and having a good year for a rookie tackle (at least, given the circumstances of the team he played for). There are a lot of 4-3 teams hungry for a good nose-tackle, so Dorsey will yield a good return for the Chiefs.
Potential Suitors: Panthers, Buccaneers, Bills, Falcons, Rams, Texans.
2. Nnamdi Asamougha, CB, Raiders
Nnamdi is hands down, the best defensive player in the league. He plays man coverage every single play, and does not get beat, hell, he doesn't even get thrown to. The Raiders are about to have a firesale, to rebuild their crumbling franchise, and Nnamdi would be the first to go to yeild lots of draft picks.
Potential Suitors: Titans, Ravens, Cardinals...everybody...
3. Derrick Johnson, 4-3 OLB / 3-4 ILB, Chiefs
Johnson is another victim of a forced defensive shift to the 3-4 in Kansas City. Johnson was also a heralded prospect; in the 2005 draft, he was expected to go top 5, but slid to 16 where the Chiefs snagged him. Johnson put up great seasons as a Strong Side Linebacker, and was especially good against the pass due to his great speed for the position. He has never put up less than 75 tackles in a year, because with his great speed, are great instincts for a LB. At age 26, his career looked to be on the upside, but then the new regime made him an inside linebacker in the 3-4, and he now rarely plays, let alone start. But, as a testament to his abilities, in the little time he has played (mind you, NOT starting), he has a sack and an interception.
Johnson is the best of a bunch of good, young linebackers who are seemingly available for trade. However, his lack of a starting spot will make him a less profitable trade-piece for the Chiefs.
Potential Suitors: Saints, Eagles, Falcons, Bills
4. Brady Quinn, QB, Browns
Oh how the mighty have fallen. Even after Derek Anderson's 2-17 performance against the Bills last week, Quinn is sitting on the bench. This tells me that Mangini has no intention of letting Quinn develope, and hence, has given up on him. This makes no sense, being as the kid has been in the league for so little time, and has sat for most of it, and when he was thrown in the fire, his offense completely died on him. Quinn may have a fine future, but it will not be with the Browns.
Potential Suitors: 49ers, Panthers, Redskins, Bills, Jaguars, Seahawks, Rams
5. Shawn Merriman, 3-4 Strongside Rush Linebacker / Rush End, Chargers
Merriman has worn out his welcome with the Chargers brass, is recovering from a serious injury (ACL+MCL tears, which really require 18 months to be 100%), and already had his replacement drafted in Larry English. Merriman has the versatility to play as a 3-4 or a 4-3 linebacker, and even can play some defensive end.
Potential Suitors: Browns, Patriots, Packers, 49ers, Chiefs, Cowboys
Other names:
Aaron Kampman, 3-4 OLB / 4-3 Left End, Packers
Julius Peppers, 4-3 Right End or Left End...potentially 3-4 OLB, Panthers
Thomas Howard, 4-3 Weakside Linebacker, Raiders
Kirk Morrison, 4-3 Middle Linebacker / Strongside Linebacker, Raiders
Vince Young, QB, Titans
Shaun Rodgers, 3-4 Nose Tackle, 4-3 Nose Tackle, Browns
AJ Hawk, 3-4 ILB / 4-3 Weakside LB, Packers
Matt Hasselbeck, QB, Seahawks
Lendale White, RB, Titans
Michael Bush, RB, Raiders
Kevin Curtis, WR, Eagles
Limas Sweed, WR, Steelers
Larry Johnson, RB, Chiefs
A good look at the team, and it's future...
Weaknesses on this team? I suppose one could say linebacker, and maybe some lack of depth at saftey. We have consistantly drafted so well, that there are very few things I think the Eagles will need to improve upon in the near future. Having a record holding QB as our #2, and future of the francise, is more than great. We saw the depth of our RB and WR positions today. We saw Brent Celek continue his domination on the field (he is on pace to finish the year with 117 catches, 1307 yards, 11 TDs), along with DeSean proving himself as THE premier young wideout in the game.
Another possibility?...
This is rather interesting...In our search for another good linebacker, I have come across one who has fallen from grace. Observe this: http://www.kcchiefs.com/depth_chart/
