Loomis could listen to opponent coaching staffs
It's getting really ugly down in NOLA.
Rams to trade #2 pick
In a move that surprises hopefully no one, the Rams have decided to trade their #2 pick (according to sources). Dear Rick, please bring us Matt.
Sandusky in prez box days before arrest
Somebody called it yesterday that ESPN was going to make a big deal out of this. Here is the first report.
Sorry if it's already been posted.
Paterno's Name removed from B1G Trophy
"The trophy and its namesake are intended to be celebratory and aspirational, not controversial. We believe that it's important to keep the focus on the players and the teams that will be competing in the inaugural championship game."
-Jim Delaney
TK out with concussion symptoms
This is unfortunate. TK reportedly experienced concussion-like symptoms last night. He's out tonight.
Anybody want Aaron Curry
Adam Schefter indicates that the Seahawks are willing to trade Aaron Curry for a mid-round pick. He's young and has the pedigree, so losing a 3rd or 4th wouldn't hurt nearly as much as the trade for Moss did. We have depth issues at LB, bring him in and have Singletary set him straight. Anyone else in?
ESPN needs a new MNF theme song, Williams Jr pulls out
danny lloyd gets his wish. ESPN will need a new theme song after Hank WIlliams Jr. decided to pull the use of his song after this week's decision.
Kluwe, Nate Jackson (who?) fight on Deadspin over Kluwe's tweets
The title link is to Jackson's piece in which he makes fun of punters, but does not necessarily dispute anything Kluwe's tweets claimed.
Link below is Kluwe's response.

Surging Pirates showing signs they're for real
Today is Pirates love day at ESPN. Crasnick does a pretty good job with this article IMO...at least relative to some of the other stuff that has been written recently.
Mets would pay rest of Beltran's salary
As if there were any additional reasons needed to talk about Beltran, the Mets are willing to pay the rest of Beltran's salary this season for more/better prospects.
Trial ordered in attack on Chris Snyder's wife
The guy that attacked Snyder's wife has been ordered to stand trial. I'm just hoping a possible jail sentence includes fighting a healthy Snyder.
The Long, Strange Trip of The Dock Ellis LSD No-Hitter Story
Deadspin does it's Deadspin-best today in detailing Ellis' no hitter while on LSD. Special guest appearance in this article by Bob Smizik.
They also have another story related to this on their site, but I didn't think it was appropriate for BD.
Positive injury updates for Crosby, Malkin
Crosby is working out two times a day and Malkin should be ready by training camp, per HCDB.
Best story of first half? Try the Pirates
David Schoenfield of ESPN's SweetSpot deems the Pirates the best surprise of 2011's first half. Why? Because Andrew McCutchen is awesome, the defense is better, the starting pitching is better, and Joel Hanrahan is awesome.
Mike Yeo named head coach of Minnesota Wild
Former Pens assistant Mike Yeo has been named head coach of the Wild, his first head coaching gig.
Defending the win: Correia racks up Ws
Steve Berthiaume discusses Kevin Correia's win success despite his underwhelming stats. His main reason for Correia's wins lies in the fact that Correia is simply not being hit hard. I'm not sure of Berthiaume's baseball expertise, but I still thought this was an interesting read.
Brendan Shanahan replaces Colin Campbell
The title says it all, I think. Still in the "source" stage of things, but interesting nonetheless.
How does the Pirates offseason look 1/3 of the way through the season?
According to our good friend Bob Smizik, 1/3 of the season is a good way to evaluate how a player will perform the rest of the season. This is obviously not a hard and fast rule (ask Adam LaRoche), but still made me think about the Pirates offseason, including signings, missed signings, etc. After the jump is a non-exhaustive (I'm sure I forgot some) list of players the Pirates targeted this offseason (or were linked to) and how they are doing in 2011 1/3 of the way through the season.
Notes: I'm not great at analyzing sabermetrics, so if there are more advanced stats that you are interested in, please add them in the comments. All stats courtesy of Fangraphs. Minor league signings (Atkins, Fields) not looked at.

Barry Bonds Will Pay College Bills For Bryan Stow's Children
Say what you want about Barry, but this is a classy move on his part. And he didn't brag about it to anyone.
Roberto Clemente's 3,000th Hit, In Glorious Graphic Novel Form
Sometimes, Deadspin posts some good things. I quickly flicked through this. I hope everyone enjoys this as much as I did.
Question for my fellow Pens fans
This Friday, I will be traveling to Raleigh to watch our beloved Penguins take on the Hurricanes. Has anyone been to the RBC Center before? Anything to check out? What about around the city/arena? Finally, and most importantly, would it be in bad taste to wear my Orpik t-shirt to the game? I ask because Erik Cole still plays for the 'Canes and is still a fan favorite. That being said, I'm not sure I've ever heard any horror stories about 'Canes fans. Thoughts?
Forcier to Miami
Tate Forcier (formerly of Michigan) has transferred to Miami. My guess is he'll be the starting QB after he takes the year off. When the time comes, the Hokies D will need a bit more speed.
Congrats to the Packers
You know, I'm probably going to catch a lot of flak for this, but whatever (Gates, delete this if you so desire). Congratulations to the Green Bay Packers. Winning the Super Bowl is an accomplishment in itself. Winning with 15 players on IR (including a starting RB and starting LB, off the top of my head), being preseason title favorites, and going against one of the all-around best teams in the league takes it to another level.
On a personal level, a close friend lost her mother this week. Her mother was a Packers fan. I cannot root against that.
Cross Lars Anderson trade off?
The Red Sox have signed Bobby Jenks to a 2 year deal. He is likely to be a set up man and may push Papelbon out of the closer's role...finally. The bad news? This may convince the Red Sox to not give us Lars Anderson and/or Scutaro in exchange for Dunkin' Doumit and Meek/Hanrahan. Without the key to the 2011 season, what are the Pirates going to do?
Jackson on IR
Looks like Ramsey will get the start if Favre can't go. I know people don't like Jackson, but he is at least a better option than Ramsey IMO.
UNC's Austin suspended indefinitely
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5520574
Not sure if this has been mentioned anywhere, but if it hasn't, then here it is. Marvin Austin has been suspended indefinitely by Butch Davis. Now, I know we don't play UNC until 11/13, but this is something to keep our eyes on. Austin is a very strong member of the UNC defensive line and this could have implications against GT's triple option on 09/18.
