For me, John Scalzi has the last word on the PSU scandal. AKA Omelas
Knowing the commentariat here, that the title of the piece is Omelas State University really says it all.

An EDSBS Reading List- Grossly unfinished draft product.
So it's January 21, 2011. You're an EDSBS reader, part of the commentariat. Your head is pounding, you have the cottonmouth, you've Fucked Clemson as hard as you can, and it's time for the off season. How to fill your time until college football envelops us in its sweaty embrace again next fall?
Here's a modest suggestion of things to read/consume. Remember, kids, this is a very literate group. We're smart, snarky, exceedingly well informed, over-educated, and usually drunk. We require you to bring your A-game, all the time. Look back on the Presidents thread- we do not trifle.
Of course, this list is not complete, and suggestions are welcome. I need new things to read, too.

Tuesday Happy Hour would like some donuts and cider.
Maize n Brew gives you your daily (or semi-daily) rundown of all the Michigan Football, Michigan Basketball, College Football, and College Basketball news you need to get through the tedium of your boring desk job. For good measure we'll throw in a little irreverent information, comedy and commentary to help you salt away the time until the clock strikes 5pm. If you want Maize n Brew in 140 characters or less, follow us on Twitter! Or you can become a fan of Maize n Brew on Facebook for more links. Here's what's ON TAP:
Stuff You Must Read Right Now
Denard is Tanned, Rested, and Ready - Angelique Chengelis of the News talked with Denard Robinson, and he's apparently feeling 100%. Terrible shame about Devin Gardner's back. Crying shame. (Not at all [Thank God! Finally the Devin Gardner redshirt we all clamoured for from day one. Was this just a grand scheme by Rodriguez to get Gardner a snap or two at the major conference level so that he knew just how much he had to improve? Is Rodriguez that wonderfully devious? Good lord I hope so. - Ed.])
We blame you - In Rod We Trust proves that our struggles are clearly your fault. I blame you.
You Should Probably Stop Talking, Chief - Derek Dooley from Tennessee attempts to swallow his entire foot, and succeeds. [This is begging for one of those fake, subtitled Hitler in the Bunker spoofs. Someone with talent and a Mac make this happen. - Ed]
Are Coaches Motivational Tactics Overrated? - Touch the Banner delves into the motivational powers of football coaches. Are they really relevant or are they just one of those things fans put too much stock in for no apparent reason? Interesting article from an actual football coach.
Is Michigan State this year's Iowa? - Graham at OTE makes an outstanding point about the sudden rise of Michigan State. We've seen this script before, a couple of lucky bounces, a ballsy call here and there that works out, some timely scoring. All with a Junior quarterback that's improved over his sophomore season. Yup. The similarities are staggering.
Remember a Big Ten team last year that was surviving by the skin of its teeth, winning games they shouldn't have, propelling themselves to a Top 5 national ranking and making people talk about "dream seasons" and the like? Is 2010 Michigan State actually just a green and white version of 2009 Iowa?
Michigan Football
The internet is a fad - Kelvin Gradytweets a lot, and is interviewed by ESPN about it. via annarbor com.
Player shuffling on the lines - discussion of the William Campbell / Quinton Washington switcheroo.
A review of our linebackers - mgoblog analyzes how the gentlemen in the middle are doing. Let's hear it for The Enigmatic Kenny Demens.
Thursday Happy Hour was sick on Tuesday.

Stuff You Must Read Right Now
Wojo is the best in Detroit - Wojo sits down with Rich Rodriguez, for an interview. Manages to conduct actual journalism. [This interview is absolutley excellent, Wojo continues to excell as one of maybe three excellent writers in the Detroit/Ann Arbor area. A small, and I mean small teaser is below. A total must read. - Ed.]
Q: You do often employ a 3-3-5 scheme. Is that not working?
A: I think the scheme part is probably way overrated. I worry more about fundamentals and us being fast enough and physical enough. We've got to play better, we know that, and our defensive staff is working as hard as they can. You can have the best scheme in the world, and if that guy over there beats your guy over here, and you don't tackle well, you're going to struggle.
Q: Recruiting-wise, do you need to focus more on defense?
A: Our numbers were down defensively last year, definitely. But it takes more than one year to adjust. Our defensive numbers now are better, scholarship-wise, but they're young guys. I'm really happy with our freshman class. We need another recruiting class like this one, from a defensive standpoint.
How fired was Brewster? SO, so fired - If you read between the lines, I think the AD didn't like Brewster.
You're going to want a drink for this - Bad secondary play at UM, with pictures, from mgoblog.
Uh, Security? - I no like this at the Big House. [Agreed - Ed.]
Michigan Football
The Bye Week will do odd things to a man - in Rod We Trust waxes poetic.
If you quote Lebowski, you make the Happy Hour - Maize and Blue Nation discusses turnovers, and why they are bad. *Spoiler Alert* They're bad.
Looking to Bama in 2012 - Denard Robinson's senior year. Man, I hope we're good by then.
Big Ten Football
After Wisky, OSU looks to move on - ATO's preview of the Purdue game. This will be useful for the Michigan-Purdue tilt later on.
Stanziball is victory! - But can it continue, BHGP asks? Ricky Stanzi is America, and so can you.
Purple People Preview - Alliteration is a cheap trick. Here's Sippin' on Purple's preview of the Michigan State game. They're worried about Kirk Cousins, and rightly so.
BSD and the Daily Gopher hash it out - I always enjoy these Q&A's between opposing teams, and you should as well.

Stuff You Must Read Right Now
Who's Number One? - No one is particularly certain right now, but the Blogpoll tries to muddle through.
Big Ten QB's, soon to contain 75% less Portland Cement - Off Tackle Empire hits on the bumper crop of QB/athletes in the Big Ten, particularly after Nebraska joins up next year.
Nepotism is such an ugly word - Q and A with Beauford from Maize n Brew and the guys from BGHP on the U-M/Iowa game. Denard Robinson.
Michigan Football
MOOOOOMMMMM! I need more quarters! - videogames explain it all, courtesy BGHP.
Pessimism from BGHP - 10 reasons Iowa will lose. These guys are almost pessimistic enough to be Michigan fans. Almost.
Am I delusional? Probably .- mgoblog's Upon Further Review of the offense against State. Looking back, there were SO many opportunities U-M missed. Guh. Too early to drink?
About Freaking Time, part 1 - Sorry Obi Ezeh, you need to sit more. Hello, Kenny Demens!
Is GERG the right guy? - Go Blue Michigan Wolverine discusses our "defensive" coordinator, Greg Robinson.
Q&A with Vincent Smith - Ann Arbor com talks with Vincent Smith.
EDSBS Readers, I need your help
I am on the horns of a dilemma, and I throw myself on the mercy of the collective wisdom of the group.

Stuff You Must Read Right Now
Dulcet tones for all - Dolla Bill Doug from EDSBS has your buyer's guide to the announcers who describe our obsessions. Interestingly, Millen not included.
The BCS is bunk - But, the early projections are out. Boise State at #1. Kellen Moore is quite good, but it's easy with a 2 game season.
All Hail the Alphabetical - Appointment reading from Spencer Hall, majordomo of EDSBS.
Michigan Football
Iowa worries about Denard - defensive analysis/expectation from BHGP.
I disagree, but this is worth reading - BHGP again, one of their commenters take on the Michigan/Michigan State game. Obi Ezeh is still horrible, though, in every possible universe.
SO true - The M-Zone is exactly right. After these infrequent losses to MSU, every Spartan fan you know, or encounter, will seek you out. I recommend booze.
Analysis of the week that was - Go Blue Michigan Wolverine looks back, but not in anger. What did Saturday mean? [Ed. Note - It meant our defense is just as bad as we thought.]

Stuff You Must Read Right Now
Unsurprisingly, we're Michigan/MSU heavy today. Did you expect anything less?
Podcasts are your friends! - A little chat sponsored by The Only Colors, with Brian Cook of mgoblog, and our very own Maize n Brew Dave.
Always interesting to see what the enemy thinks - Poking around inside the brains (Paterno-style!) at The Only Colors about the numbers behind the game.
That Cheating Bastard Eddie Brown - A retrospective (Spartans, that means "to look back at") on some of the classic games in the series must include the robbery of 1990. I wanted to do very bad things to Eddie Brown, and the officials then. Very. Bad. Things. Am I better now? Hard to say.
Michigan Football
Rittenberg is wrong, again - In the College Football Blog on ESPN, Rittenberg picks 37-35 them. S'ok, we are all occasionally wrong.
You can see the family resemblance - The M Zone's tracked down Mike Hart's family album.
Holy Crispy Crap - An impressive diary at Mgoblog, laying out Denard Robinson's assault on what you previously understood records to be. I know it's only been 5 games, but WOW.
Mike Martin used to be a dog handler - Seriously. Mike Martin has been wreaking havoc on defense, even in the 3-3-5.
Cue the Montell Jordan - Indeed, this IS how we do it. Mgoblog's UFR of the offense. If you aren't reading these after every game, then, well, I don't want to know you.
Tuesday Happy Hour Reminds You that SPEED Kills

Stuff You Must Read Right Now
MGoVideo State Week Hype - Caution, has sound. Also, contains disturbing images of Spartans in their natural habitat. Final caution - viewing this will reduce your productivity to zero today. You have been warned. via MgoVideo and mgoblog dot com.
SUPERBREAKING News - Lynn Henning discovers winning better than losing, and that Rich Rodriguez does not eat babies, contrary to popular belief. Does get points for use of "fraught".
Did we dodge a bullet, or what? Remember when everyone was clamoring for Les Miles to coach Michigan? Yeah, here's the thing. HE CRAZY! Time has no meaning to him. Read Spencer Hall's Alphabetical (which is must read material every Monday) to experience the crazy. I like our guy better.
Michigan Football
Defense - Not really our thing. - Angelique Chengelis from the Detroit News talks about U-M's "issues" on defense. Your humble editor submits that the defense looks worse than it is because of a variety of factors. Do these factors include lack of talent, and football acumen? Yes, they do. Thankfully, we have Denard Robinson.
Caveat Emptor - If you don't have tickets in hand for the big game on Saturday, be careful where you get them. There are fakes going around, and it would suck hard to spend the money, and then not be able to get in.
TRAVISHAMOCKERY - Yeah, the world's largest walking turd is announcing the Michigan-Michigan State game. I mean, really? Hasn't this state suffered enough?
It goes WAY past 11 - Continuing a theme, the guys from the M Zone consider the intersection of depraved gambling, and string theory. Stephen Hawking always takes the over.
Resolved. There needs to be a Miles Cup
Akin to the Fulmer Cup, but for coaches.
Let's talk Scotch
Before the season starts, and we commit to killing the liver in earnest, let's discuss another option for self medication when your team is starting nothing but freshmen at DB: scotch. Many people are afraid of scotch, because it can seem like an intimidating beverage, with a dizzying array of choices. I once was where you are now, scotch neophyte, and I have seen the mountaintop. I am here to help guide the way.

Beers to be served at Summer Michigan Beer Fest
Bumped for obvious reasons! - Ed.
Here's a list of some of the breweries/beers to be served at the Summer Michigan Beer Fest at Frog Island, in Ypsilanti on July 23-24. I'll be there, and you should be, too.
Mobile EDSBS. Fully functional. Now Orson can come with me to the can, for special alone times. Also convenient for court. There is nothing about this I do not like.
