I am a 27 year old civil defense attorney at a large firm in Louisville. I grew up in Eastern Kentucky, where we're all raised bleeding blue, and other than a 3 year law school stint at Washington University in St. Louis, MO (where I developed a love for the "good" Cardinals), I've spent my entire life in Kentucky.
My image is the menu from "Art & Beer," an oasis/art gallery/restaurant/bar/magical place in the Mexican desert halfway between Cabo San Lucas and Todos Santos (right around the 69km marker, if you're in the neighborhood). Good art, great seafood, and Lourdes makes a mean cocktail.

Trivia - Why is Kentucky blue?
Apologies to those that already know this story, but in this "lull" (I use that lightly right now--but this is the traditional sports lull period. . .), I thought I would take the time to share the story of of how UK adopted what we all know and love today as Kentucky blue.
From: http://www.uky.edu/webuk/subpages/traditions.html
The University of Kentucky adopted blue and white as its official colors in 1892. Originally, however, UK students had decided on blue and light yellow prior to the Kentucky-Centre College football game on December 19, 1891. The shade of blue, which is close to a royal blue, was chosen when a student asked the question, "What color blue?" At the time, Richard C. Stoll (who lettered in football at UK in 1889-94) pulled off his necktie and held it up. The students then adopted that particular shade of blue. A year later, UK students officially dropped the light yellow color for white.
Personally, this story means more to me than it may to others. Mr. Stoll, who later became Judge Stoll, founded the law firm where I now work in 1931. I never knew this story until I began my career here, and of course that was affirmation that I chose the right firm to begin my law career. A plaque commemorating Judge Stoll's role in UK Blue now hangs in the mock courtroom area of our Lexington office.

Wall Facebook Page Violates NCAAs?
I find this ridiculous. The NCAA's position is that a Facebook page dedicated to a top recruit puts a university in violation of the recruiting guidelines.
So, if I created a "John Wall to UK" Facebook page, UK told me to take it down, but I refused, UK could be sanctioned? Am I following this correctly?

The Masters Day Open Thread
I thought it would be good to create an open thread about Day 2 of the Masters. Yesterday and this morning have generated a number of Masters/golf related comments, and rather than clog up the UK-related posts, let's consolidate that here.
BTW, root for UK alum Steve Flesch and Kentucky native (and proud spokesperson) Kenny Perry.
If you want to post updates, comments, or the like about the 2009 Masters, please do so here.
Note that I edited the title - just make this the whole Masters thread, if you want to comment.

HELP FOR GAME WATCHING - NASHVILLE
If anyone can help out here, I would appreciate it. I'm traveling to Nashville this weekend to visit a law-school buddy, and am concerned about my ability to watch the UK/South Carolina game.
First question, can someone in Nashville check their cable listings and tell me if the game (Raycom) will be shown on local cable?
Second question, does anyone know of any sports bars or the like in Nasvhille that are UK friendly, or at least likely to show the game?
Thanks.

Opinions on whether Slone might transfer
This is pure hypothesizing, but here goes. Let's say Slone continues to play 20-25+ minutes per game the rest of the season, putting up 6-10 points and 3 or 4 assists in 3/4 of those games. That's very solid production out of any freshman at any school. Maybe he gets a few starts in there. Would UK offer him a scholarship for next year, and more to the point, would we even have a scholarship available?
If not, I wonder if any other D1 schools might come knocking at his door with a scholarship in hand. Any chance he would transfer?
*** Of course there is no way to know what his numbers will continue to be or whether his PT will continue. This is a bit premature after 2 solid games, but. . .

Big East/SEC Challenge
While I think the Big East/SEC Challenge is largely garbage, the SEC got off to a good start with Vanderbilt routing South Florida and Tennessee beating Marquette pretty solidly last night. If Mississippi State can handle Cincinnati and Ole Miss/Huertas can upset Louisville, the SEC will look a bit better all of a sudden.
With the SEC being so down this year, a few good wins like these go along away. I actually think Mississippi has a good shot at Louisville, despite some bad losses (Utah and New Mexico State, notably). Go SEC.

Azinger picks Holmes as a Captain's Pick
Paul Azinger picked UK alum J.B. Holmes as a Ryder Cup Captain's Pick, even though Holmes has fallen sharply in the points standings over the last few weeks. Congrats, J.B. - it will be fun to watch you at Valhalla.

Brandon Webb is Busy Resting
Great "day in the life" of Brandon. I can see his laid-back style hasn't changed one bit since high school.
