Lincecum to miss next start
Hot off the satire griddle:
San Francisco Giants phenom Tim Lincecum has left the team and will miss his next scheduled start, it was announced Tuesday.
The emerging ace was expected to take the mound Wednesday against Colorado. However, a Giants spokesman says Lincecum was offered, and has accepted, the role of Cameron in the upcoming sequel to Ferris Bueller's Day Off. The movie will be shot in Chicago over the coming months, and is scheduled to hit the big screen early in the summer of 2009.

Here's a nice breakdown of the pitchers on the A's opening day roster from Nathaniel Stoltz at Bleacher Report:

Sooners got screwed by coaches poll
Hadn't heard about this until now. Not sure how much this has been reported, but this is some crazy stuff.
The Coaches Poll should definitely be taken out of the BCS equation and I'm frankly surprised that this still goes on from year to year.
Check it out and get the word out, then maybe the system will finally be changed.

More Lincecum-for-Cabrera talk
Despite reports to the contrary, I don't think this potential trade is dead yet. Sabean's comments to the press reeked of gamesmanship and had some barbs seemingly directed right to the Marlins' front office.
But the question remains: if Lincecum+ is the price, is it worth it?
This article makes a good case that it is:

Check it out and then read the comments from all the pissy Vols fans. You'd think the writer took a dump on their kitchen table or something the way they react. Oh well, I guess thems the break on the interwebs.
one more 'why did you pass on beau mills?' screed

Seriously, is there really any way to positively spin this? Only if Bumgarner becomes an All Star closer within 2 years. Likelihood?
Lincecum article
Hey guys -
Check out the article on Lincecum I just wrote on Bleacher Report.
What do you think about the pitch count concerns--overblown or worth worrying about?
Fantasy Home Run Derby Game
Pretty simple contest - pick 3 players each from 5 groups of hitters (based on the top 50 or so home run hitters from last year).
Who would you pick in each group?
Niekro flashing some power, hitting righties
Went to all three games this weekend, drank lots of Kool-Aid, and I'll be damned if Lance Niekro didn't look like a starting major league first baseman.
Flashing some serious power, driving in runs, and hitting those righties (both HR against RHP). I know its like kissing your cousin's dead horse to rave about spring numbers, but I'm impressed with how ol' Lance has showed up to claim his job.
Bottom line: the boys look ready.

Sounds like he's ready to go. I only wish he took this approach to offseason preparation every year, as opposed to just the year before his contract expires.
Morris just about ready to consider beginning the process of commencing with signing
Sources indicate he may make a decision to decide any time in the next day to two months. More updates to come.
Pierre gets traded - who's next?
Juan Pierre to the Cubs for 3 prospects is just about a done deal, pending physicals.
He's the second to last to go, with Ron Villone being Florida's final chip to unload, according to this report: http://losangeles.angels.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20051207&content_id=1277896& ;vkey=hotstove2005&fext=.jsp
But we can only hope that those contract talks with Willis break down, and Florida starts looking to trade. If Sabean could pull off one more miracle, snatching Willis from Florida for .50 on the dollar and bringing him home to lead the Giants to glory for years to come (Willis, Lowry, Cain - imagine that rotation).
Ok, I'm delusional. But a guy can dream...
