Acme Packing Company Pro Bowlers as it Stands Today

After a 9-0 start and strong play by many individuals I thought it would be interesting to ask which players fans thought had a chance to make the Pro Bowl this year.

(You know, the game that no player wants to play and guys like Vince Young can end up getting with enough defects?)

What I am really interested to hear is if people believe Jordy Nelson has a legitiment chance to make the Pro Bowl and how that could affect his price tag this upcoming offseason. As you'll see I am of the opinion that his play so far definitely makes him Pro Bowl worthy (thanks Mr. Rodgers) but still believe he would give us a substaintial home discount so he can continue to play with America's best Quarterback.

My predictions (8 total) after the jump:

Acme Packing Company Nick Collins Out for Season

Combine this with the implosion of the BEast for a Marquette fan and this week could not start off any worse sports wise. Apparently it had something to do with his neck and according to reports from McCarthy they are unsure as to his ability to return from the injury at all. What an odd play to go out on...

Brew Crew Ball Big Bad Phillies?

Found this stat in the comments section of an article on ESPN.com regarding how the six potential playoff teams in the NL have all fared against each other so far.

Judging by the stats it would appear the Phillies aren't nearly as dominate as the record suggests and it may be a better indicator of their abilities to crush the opponents they should. I am not contending the Phillies aren't the forerunners (they most certainly are) but this indicates they may be more human than first imagined.

[Also incredible how good the Brewers ERA has been comparatively]

Brew Crew Ball Need Help with Bet Against Friend

Would love anyone's suggestions on where to find this info:

At the beginning of the year, I made two bets with my friend. Both of them were betting for our respective man crushes. Being early to the bandwagon (having seen his pre-2010 #s) I made the fairly bold prediction that Tony Plush would both end the year with a higher BA than Corey Hart AND start more games in the 2 hole than Hart would.

Brew Crew Ball Question Regarding this Offseason

Does anyone know how much money we will have to spend this offseason considering the payroll this year and where it is right now for next year?

With Prince and Yuni one would believe that we would have some money to spend, is it crazy to suggest us spending it on Jose Reyes? I've posted the potential lineup below - which I think may be a more well rounded and better lineup maybe then this year - but what is the general consensus as to how much Reyes will get a year? Do you think this is a better lineup?

Brew Crew Ball Small Cause for Concern?

I am more posting this hopefully for a bevy of other fans to quell my small doubts but does it worry anyone else that we are on a tear and still not leading our division?

When matching up the two squads I like MIL over STL but considering we have the best record in the majors in the last month, Prince and 3 of our pitchers are on a tear, is it a glass half empty approach to be afraid we will cool down/come back down to earth and still be in 2nd?

True, I would argue Ryan isn't on fire right now (as crazy as that is) and Corey and Zach are still far from the All Star status they could/may achieve, but the same could be said about Pujols. I guess what my real question is is do we all expect this level of winning/play for the rest of the season? Or will we inevitably cool down/come back down to earth and still find ourselves looking up at the cardinals?

Would love an educated response as to why I shouldn't be thinking this way. Thanks!

Brew Crew Ball Milwaukee Brewer All Star Thread

Wanted to start a discussion on potential Brewer All Stars to this point. As it stands today I think 4 will get in with +1/-1 going either way. How close do you feel my list is?

Brew Crew Ball 2011 Payroll Questions

Hello BCB,

I was having a conversation with one of our fellow brewer fans and I was trying to figure out how much money we will have going into the 2011 offseason. Below is what I constructed and please feel free to correct anything I have wrong

Brew Crew Ball Brewers to Sign Another Starter?

Ken Rosenthal had a very interesting segment in a recent post:

Jon Garland/Doug Davis/Jarrod Washburn The Brewers almost certainly will sign one of those three; the Mets, Dodgers, Cardinals and Angels could be in the mix for the others, along with the Nationals and Orioles.

Am I missing something in this trade? I feel like we could've given more than that to get Vazquez. What am I missing about this trade? In other news, the rich continue to get richer for the Yankees

Brew Crew Ball Perspectives on Free Agent Pitchers

I was looking to see what everyone thought about certain pitchers we had been tied to earlier on in the offseason or who still are out in the market that might be a good #3 as we can get. While we have a much better chance of getting a pitcher via trade where do you all see Eric Bedard, Jarrod Washburn, and Doug Davis signing and for how long and how much? thanks ahead of time

Brew Crew Ball What Now?

The next question for Doug is where to go from here having spent most of his available money on Randy Wolf (3yrs 29.75 mil) and LaTroy Hawkins (2yrs 7.5 mil). Rather than continue to discuss as to whether too much was given to either of the players what do you do if you're Melvin having said he wanted two starting pitchers in the offseason?

While I don't know what non-tender is in reference to with regards to Bush if it means anything like dropping him and picking up his 4 million to add to the 1 or 2 million we have left to sign a guy to a 1yr 5 mil deal in a month I'm all for it.

Acme Packing Company Questions RE: the Possible Removal of the Cap in 2010

So if the cap were to be moved next year how would the Packers as an organization handle the finances of this shift with it being the only team owned by the fans in theory? It probably doesn't work like this but hypothetically couldn't the Packers issue more stock in the company? I really feel like any and every Packer fan would love to own a part of the Packers and those who already have a stock won't care if they own .001% or .00001% of the team but rather that they still own part of the team. It is amazing to ponder this scenario as it would be one of the wierdest things in all of sports for the smallest town in the NFL to sport a NY Yankees type salary and roster. I really feel a move like this would reaffirm the Green Bay Packers as one of the most unique and fanbased organizations in all of sports. Thoughts?

Brew Crew Ball Help with Gallardo and Parra Contracts

Can someone please explain to me the contract situation with Gallardo and Parra both for this season and going forward? I am talking to my roommate who is a Cubs fan and he insists we will have to give contracts to both this offseason and I dont remember what is going on with them other than the fact that they are not a big problem this offseason. Thanks alot for the help and go Crew

Brew Crew Ball Washburn to Detroit

While it was fairly obvious in the recent days that he was not going to land here I find it interesting though as to how little Detroit ended giving up for him. While I won't pretend to know either of the pitchers given up the quote that struck me from the SI article follows:

"French and Robles were not among the top 10 prospects in the Tigers' organization entering this season, according to Baseball America."

While I am not upset at all that we will be staying pat (though I would've liked to see Hardy go to bring up Escobar) couldn't we have given something comparable?

(I figure most people will respond with the fact that we don't have young pitching to offer and that's what everyone wants)

Acme Packing Company Madden 2010 Rankings Out = Absolute Joke

So I understand that we did go 6-10 but the rankings given out by ESPN are absolutely atrocious. Here are my top 5 pet peeves.

1. How is Aaron Rodger a 86 overall? He is a top 10 QB in the league and gets the same ranking as a rookie?

2. Same question for Gregg Jennings, a 90 for a top 10 WR. A 90 is something I can live with though

3. Nick Barnett was a borderline Pro-Bowl LB before he got injured and with a year away from the limelight he drops to a 84?

4. AJ Hawk was given a 78. Thats a Brady Poppinga type ranking for a guy that is alot better than him.

5. Mason Crosby as a 72, really?

Do I just need to take of the green and gold glasses or what?

Brew Crew Ball This Season Vs. The Future

I am writing this in response to the possible idea of the Brewers again trading future talent for a more successful team today. As we continue to throw around different possible scenarios for getting a good substitute rental for Rickie this year and different journalists rumble about possible Peavy trades, my question that I ask to all of you is how willing are you all to sacrifice potential talent tomorrow for a real shot today?

Brew Crew Ball BREWERS TRADE IMMINENT

Via JSOnline and Tom Haudricourt:

Brewers general manager Gord Ash just posted a "tweet" on Twitter that the team has a player transaction forthcoming.

I have it on good authority it is not Jake Peavy, so no, he hasn't turned down the White Sox to come to Milwaukee. Sounds like it's something of much less significance, probably involving something on the bench.

I'll let you know when I hear what the deal is.
