A Tale of Two Texas Teams
The Texas Rangers have been the best team in the AL West the past two years because of their explosive offense and decent pitching. They scored a whopping 787 runs in 2010 and have scored 489 so far in 2011 with 64 games to go so they look to be somewhere in that neighborhood again this year. However, a quick look at their splits reveals just how dependent they are on their home-field to win games.

...the Angels went out and got him and took on all that salary ... and actually traded semi-useful players to make it happen. It's almost like there's a fundamental misunderstanding of the game; if a deal like this happened in your fantasy baseball league you would invalidate it on the assumption that one player didn't know what he was doing.
This made me LOL, but then I was like :(
Baseball Prospectus' Top Angels Prospects
Whoever guesses the #1 prospect gets one internet dollar.(Offer expires 01/05/11)
OT thread: HH community survey
Reading through this morning's Halo links got me curious about the Halos Heaven community. It appears to me that a lot of you are extremely well-read and some of you might even be academics, so I was wondering what your level of education is? and what you do for a living?

A Damning Review of Expensive Long-Term Contracts
A must-read for those posters who have been whining about a particular non-signing in recent days.
Sure, it seemed like the right thing to do at the time, but now...not so much.
**note** Does not include ridiculous extensions (Vernon Wells.A-ROD 2).
Jayson Werth to the Nationals
There goes our Plan C... Nationals will pay $126 Million over 7 Years.
"The Mariners have money to spend but they are becoming a West Coast version of the Orioles, a place top-tier free agents avoid because the stench of losing is overwhelming."
Not a good time to be the #6org
As if you needed another reason to root for the Giants, here is a HILARIOUS Brian Wilson interview.
Let's just pretend Jim Rome isn't really there.

Fire Joe Morgan: w/RISP are stupid stats
An old Fire Joe Morgan article poking fun at people who like to point to meaningless stats like Mike Napoli's numbers w/ RISP.
The next time someone references a players numbers w/ RISP I will track them down and rip their heart out in front of their children.
Rob Dibble gets canned
That's what he gets for picking a fight with bloggers and being an all-around jackass.
Nyger Morgan starts a brawl and gets his butt kicked
What the hell is wrong with this guy?
Check out Gaby Sanchez at :06
"On the offensive side, he's struggled with some things. ... I think on the defensive end, Jeff is a premium player. He just hasn't hit his stride.
Please Don't Troll
Hey guys don't be like this idiot and stay away from LSB. I like to lurk around as much as the next guy and to their credit the people over there are generally well-informed baseball fans that keep to their site with the exception of a few assholes (inkara1).
Anatomy of Two 11-Game Win Streaks
The ChiSox's run was halted at 11 games today after losing 8-6 to their crosstown rival Cubs. They are the second AL team in June to compile such a winning streak (stRangers). However, the quality of the opponents they faced during their streak was a notch above the crap teams that Texas played.

Sunk Costs Could Limit The Angels At The Trade Deadline
In light of today's news that Tom Hick's financial problems could hinder the Rangers at the trade deadline, I would like to point out that the Halos have issues of their own when trying to add talent.
The lack of talent in the minors, with the exception of a few gems, is the first thing that comes to mind. However, the main problem is the big chunk of payroll money allotted to mediocre-bad players.
The list follows after the jump.
Brett Anderson's Elbow
Word on the street is that Oakland's ace may be done for the season. This would be a huge blow to their playoff hopes and a major snag in his promising career.
Hatcher's Disciples
This first game against the Cards has been one of the most frustrating experiences for me in a long time. Forget the fact that Brad Penny ended the game AND passed Reggie Willits on the career HR list in one swing. The most infuriating part of the game for me was the 9th inning when they came up to bat against Dennys Reyes.
Down by 4 runs the Angels should have been trying to get as many men on base as possible. What's more, Reyes got up there and couldn't find the strikezone at all.
Willits had the right idea and worked himself a walk.
Then, Aybar goes up there and bunts on the 3rd pitch! How is that ever a good idea when you are down by 4? Was he trying to move Willits over? WTF
I got my hopes up again when Kendrick lays off 4 straight pitches (3-1)...and wouldn't you know it he hacks the next one the other way for an easy out. FFFFFUUUUUUU
Abreu gets up there and is like "F' this I have a buffet to get to". Game Over.
Dennys Reyes sighs in relief because our reluctance to take a BB got him out of a potentially bad situation.
I get up and beat my wife and kids unmercifully because I just wasted 2 hours and 44 minutes of my life. Can someone come bail me out in time for tomorrow's game?
Roy Oswalt: Would You Do It?
Lets face it.The Astros will probably throw in the towel at some point this summer. Rumor as it that Roy Oswalt is open to a trade when that happens. I see a great opportunity for the Halos to stabilize their starting rotation by plugging in a guy like him
Oswalt has career averages of 7.38 K/9, 2.07 BB/9 and ERA-FIP of 3.21-3.35
The success Oakland and Texas have had is largely a result of strong starting pitching(and some decent hitting).A starting 4 of Weaver, Oswalt, Pineiro, Santana might be enough to overtake our division rivals. The 5th spot would go to either Kazmir or Saunders depending on who is the least crappy of the two.
If you were a baseball executive trained in the ways of Ninjitsu, would you strike? and who would you be willing to send Houston's way?(don't say Q)
BTW he is due $31 million over the next 2 years w/ a $2 million buyout for 2013.
A Predictable analysis of the Halos by Mariners fan Dave Cameron
He is clearly trying to vindicate his organizational rankings and the faulty projection systems.
Up next, an article mentioning the fact that the team widely regarded as the best in the AL West is performing even more poorly. Maybe the M's aren't as good as they predicted...hmmm
Serious Jetlag for the Halos
The Angels will fly 50,509 air miles in 2010, more than any other team.
The White Sox will fly 22,832, the lowest number.

Halos Heaven Fantasy Baseball League(s)
Hey Guys,
I started a Fantasy Baseball League on ESPN hoping to play against other Halos Heaven community members. It is a 10-team Rotisserie League...mmm...Rotisserie... What's more, IT'S COMPLETELY FREE!
If anyone is interested in joining the league name is:
Halos Heaven On ESPN.
Password: panther
Hopefully I'll fill up all 10 spots by next week so we can draft before the season starts.
P.S. I wanted this to be a sticky thread for any future fantasy baseball posts/invites.
Top A's Prospect Quits Baseball to Become Priest(for reals)
23-year old Grant Desme a minor-league Outfielder for the Oakland A's has decided to quit baseball to enter the priesthood.
Angels Gm Tony Reagins had this to say in response to the numerous Fanposts sprouting up every minute (mostly by HH noobs) declaring the Angels' 2010 season all but lost and painting Angel's owner Arte Moreno as the next Donald Sterling.

Angels in on Halladay
Jon Heyman says we will bid, but only if he is willing to work out a long term deal.
Barry Larkin loves the Halos
Barry Larkin on MLB Network just chose the Angels to win it all in 2010 just like he picked us to win it in 2009. He might be on to something there.
The 2009 recap show will probably be repeated later tonight.
Everyone's favorite HR Derby "winner" relapses
Via Deadspin...Hammy you got some 'splaining to do.
Jake Locker to sign with Halos
Does anybody have any news about other signings or know where we can check?
