After last night's dissemination of the Houston Rockets, the Magic have taken 1st place in John Hollinger's daily Power Rankings. The victory coupled with poor losses by Boston and San Antonio propelled the Magic to the top spot for the first time this season. Although Power Rankings are generally as scientifically sound as Magic 8-Balls, Hollinger's daily PR system attempts to lend some credibility to the process by drawing its rankings exclusively from a number statistical factors.

Orlando Pinstriped Post Otis Smith's Diabolical Master Plan

We all know Otis Smith as a former Magic player and the current Magic GM but it has recently dawned on me that he may also be an Evil Genius . . .

How so, you say?  Allow me to elaborate. . .

Orlando Pinstriped Post Magic vs Heat Preseason Game CANCELLED . . . EPIC FAIL!!!

Seriously?  Probably the biggest basketball event ever to come to Tampa and it's cancelled because of a wet floor?  Don't these people know what happens when you put a floor over ice?  SERIOUSLY???  No one involved didn't anticipate this?  I hope they NEVER get an NBA game over there again >:P

Orlando Pinstriped Post 10 PREDICTIONS

After having witnessed what I deem, the 3rd most disappointing loss in Magic History, (in person no less), I came up with10 predictions on how the remainder of this series is going to play out:

Perhaps this way we can keep the Series threads from becoming 1000+ posts threads so quickly (lol),  OR if anyone has a better idea, I'm open to suggestions . . . GO MAGIC!!!

Great Piece on JJ Redick over at NBA.com that talks about his endurance and his resurgence as an NBA player.

Good stuff.

Believe it or not fellow Magic fans, there ARE a few national sports writers out there willing to use statistics & facts to back up their assertions, rather than blindly praise the front runners. The result is a delightfully encouraging piece that should put a smile on even the most jaded Magic fan's face. Enjoy!

Orlando Pinstriped Post Was Dwight's Defensive Player of the Year Award a One Shot Deal?

It's no secret that Dwight's numbers (particularly his rebounding & blocks) have fallen from last season and this could probably be attributed to a number of factors such as foul trouble, new teammates etc.  But what if it's actually something much worse?

What if Dwight feels he's already achieved his goal of leading the NBA in rebounds and blocks so he's content to average much more pedestrain numbers for the rest of his career?

It may sound a bit far-fetched but he's obviously a very goal-oriented person and this could be one of those things that he's satisfied with having already accomplished once.  IF this proved to be true it'd obviously bode very bad for the Magic as he's the anchor of their defense.  I pray that this doesn't prove to be the case but it's a real concern I have that's been growing with each game he records sub par #s.

Anyone else concerned about this?

Thoughts?

Orlando Pinstriped Post Rashard's Suspension is a Blessing in Disguise . . .

As Magic fans we were all a bit disillusioned and concerned that Rashard would be suspended for the 1st 10 games of this season and with good reason I might add.  With the East being as close as it is, a few games in the loss column may end up being the difference between the 1st and 3rd seeds.  How then could one possibly contend that Rashard being suspended could be a good thing? It boils down to 2 simple words . . .

Ryan Anderson.

This pre-season, Magic fans have started to fall in love with a lanky white guy who has more in common with Rashard than he does with Pat Garrity.  And  with good reason, Ryan Anderson is (IMHO) the real deal.  I'm not saying he's a bona fide future superstar or even all-star for that matter but he will certainly be a starter quality NBA PF for years to come and I believe the absence of Rashard for the 1st 10 games is only going to further cement (and possibly increase) his minutes in the rotation even after Rashard returns.  I think this process would've most likely been delayed had Rashard been available.

Also, it's worth mentioning that the Magic's schedule is particularly light through 9 of the1st 10 games and consequently they stand a great chance at going 9-1 (or 10-0) even without Rashard.

Don't get me wrong, I love what Rashard brings to our team but his ignorance just might end up being a boon for our boys in blue!

Orlando Pinstriped Post 3rd Annual Magic Team Bonding Invitational is set!

Great piece on SI about Jameer and his thoughts on the Magic for next season. Apparently he's already set the date for this year's team bonding event for August 16th through the 22nd.

SI.com: In previous summers, you've organized team workouts near your home in Pennsylvania. Will it be business as usual this summer?

JN: We're trying to piece it together because our team was in transition. For the most part, the big guns have committed -- Vince [Carter], Dwight [Howard] and Rashard [Lewis]. After those guys have committed, no one can really back out unless they have some type of serious issue.

This year we're doing it from the 16th through the 22nd of August. We do it at the same facility every year, same gym at Haverford College. We'll work out with my trainers -- conditioning drills, weightlifting, stuff to get your body right. The basketball stuff we do is later in the afternoon. We do that for about 2-3 hours.

Afterward, we'll mix up the nightlife. We always do a dinner. Other days we'll do paintball or bowling, maybe go to the movies.

It doesn't sound as if everyone's committed to going yet but I hope they will all take part since all the big dogs are gonna be there.

Man how awesome would it be to attend that gathering!

Orlando Pinstriped Post McDyess to Spurs? PLEASE Say It Ain't So!!

AND THEN THERE WAS ONE . . .

It seems the word out of San Antonio is that the Spurs are most likely going to snag McDyess (My MOST favored FA option) as they are apparently willing to give him a 3 year deal startiing with the FULL MLE!  Since Otis seems Hellbent on splitting the MLE I fear we've lost out on the McDyess sweepstakes and MAY also lose out on Bass on too!

What the H#LL happened to all the "Magic are willing to go into the tax for a championship" and  "I can spend as much money as I need to" talk that Otis has been spewing this whole summer?

I will go on record as saying that if Otis doesn't procure McDyess (I'm STILL HOPING) or Bass then (IMO) this off season was a FAILURE , Carter or no Carter.  THIS SUCKS!!! >:(

GET IT DONE OTIS!!!

P.S.  It seems as if this is a done deal as Yahoo Sports is reporting the same thing.  >:(  CRAAAAAP!!!

Orlando Pinstriped Post So Let's Assume . . .

That the rest of the key free agent signings (as far as the Magic are concerned) go as follows . . .

Hedo - Goes to Portland

Gortat - Goes to Houston

Rasheed - Goes to Boston

Bass - Goes to Orlando

McDyess - Stays in Detroit

Ariza - Goes to Cleveland

AND

Let's also assume the Magic fill their remaining holes with NBA filler.

If it all does indeed play out like this, then . . .

How would you rank then rank the Eastern Conference Contenders?

Orlando Pinstriped Post Hedo is as good as GONE! :'(

At least that's the conclusion I've arrived at after watching the VC presser and reading between the lines of the Magic's statements.  Also, JVG already said as much and I believe he had inside info that he inadvertently let slip during the draft.  Futhermore, listening to Stan's comments at the VC presser sounded like he was already making plans for a Hedo-less team.

While I'm glad the Magic are being aggressive and trying to win it all right now I'm torn about having to give up on Hedo to do it & here's why . . .
