MLB Network announces schedule through June

Link

Break down by division:

AL East: 4 teams (5 total appearances, 2 by the Yankees)

AL Central: 2 teams

AL West: 2 team

NL East: 3 Teams

NL Central: 3 Teams (5 total appearances, 2 each by Cubs and Cards)

NL West: 3 Teams

Surprisingly balanced! For the most part you get the presumed front runners of each division as well as appearances by a couple of random teams like Baltimore, Oakland and San Diego. I wonder what the ESPN and Fox schedules for the same time frame look like?

I think we can finally put to rest any thoughts of Strasburg

To sum it up, the article talks about the Nats inability to sign Aaron Crow last year but their acting GM makes no bones about the fact that if the draft were today they'd take Strasburg and worry about the cost later.

Obviously it's been more or less a foregone conclusion that he'd be their pick but I've seen a few people say things like "Maybe he'll be too expensive for them!" etc so hopefully this finally puts all that to bed and we can move on and focus on Dustin Ackley!

Yahoo Sports continues their vendetta against USC

Floyd gave money to OJ's handler

USC men’s basketball coach Tim Floyd made a direct cash payment to a man who helped deliver O.J. Mayo to the Trojans program, according to Louis Johnson, a former member of Mayo’s inner circle.

Johnson, a one-time Mayo confidant, has told both NCAA investigators and federal authorities – including the FBI, IRS and U.S. Attorney’s Office – that Floyd gave at least $1,000 in cash to Rodney Guillory, a man who allegedly lavished Mayo with improper benefits while the guard starred for the Trojans.

No mention of this on the front page of the world wide leader. Seems to be a Yahoo exclusive at the moment.

I'm not doubting that this could be true, and if it is, well then holy shit.

Edit again for clarification: The story on coach Floyd is not from Dr. Saturday Or Shutdown corner. I think originally I intended to post something about one of the Yahoo blogs stirring up PC to the NFL rumors and then edited it to get the correct blog linked and lost my original text. Apologies to the crew at Dr. Saturday as I appreciate their fine work and will continue to frequent their blog.

I think it is easy for all Trojan fans to understand how touchy we get about PC to the NFL rumors, but it is always important to remain level headed when dealing with this kind of news.

The Dodgers suddenly have a lot of blocked Middle IF prospects

So with the signing today of Orlando Hudson the Dodgers now have:

Chin-Lung Hu

Ivan DeJesus

Tony Abreu

and Blake DeWitt

all sort of mired in the minors. DeJesus is the furthest away, but Abreu, DeWitt and Hu probably don't need much more time in the minors. I know the M's just acquired Cedeno but do you think any of these guys would be a potential Lopez/Betancourt replacement?

The only thing the M's have that the Dodgers could potentially want are proven veteran SP, surely Jarrod Washburn would be a nice fit once Jason Schmidt inevitably goes down with another arm injury!

Actually I can't really think of anything the M's could reasonably offer...

Link

Since there are a lot of future Sounders fans here. I casually follow LA Galaxy since I live about 15 miles from the Home Despot center. Admittedly though I don't know a great deal about the league or about how the MLS draft works, so maybe one of your more knowledgeable types can chime in on this.

With the first overall pick Seattle took:

Steve Zakuani* F Akron

Comment: English native and former Arsenal youth team player who scored 20 goals in 23 games in 2008 for Akron.

Thoughts?

And second round pick:

Evan Brown D Wake Forest

Comment: Winner of 2006 Most Improved Player award at Wake Forest. Recorded 4 goals and 15 assists in 4 years for the Demon Deacons.

Sources close to Mark Sanchez and USC tell ESPN's Chris Mortensen that the quarterback plans to announce Thursday that he will forgo his senior season to enter the NFL draft.

FWIW I still think he is coming back, but if he doesn't then I understand. He's gotta be a higher rated prospect than schmucks like Stafford and the draft is pretty thin on QBs, (albeit it also seems thin on teams that would take a QB in round 1). I'd expect Sanchez to be a first day guy, but possibly on in the early third round/late second round and probably one of the first 3 QBs taken.

USC wide receiver Vidal Hazelton is expected to transfer to Cincinnati, a source close to Hazelton said Wednesday.

Hazelton plans to transfer to the school contingent upon passing an upcoming physical examination.

Hazelton had only six catches for 38 yards this season at USC due to injuries. He had 50 catches for 540 yards in 2007.

Hazelton, at 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds, was one of the nation's top recruits coming out of Hargrave Military Academy.
