I'm not sure what it is, but this video seems to capture the whole UT vs. aTm vs. Dan Beebe thing. The man happy with sheep is the aTm thing while the farmer is Beebe and the Wife is UT.
Off season = sad, Kimbra makes me happy
Profound Pontification of the Philistine and Pony Phather starts here
He also wants his tight ends to get involved more as blockers to help establish a running game he believes the Red Raiders need. That's good news for touted recruit Jace Amaro's future, but for now, the duties have gone to Adam James, who has put on a bit of weight to fill the need.
The ink to the pompous perpetrator of such profuse pronouncements of preliminary post grad piss off and palpitation of the pulmonary pulse.
Lyle Leong's Pro Day
Local Abilene video of Lyle's Pro day.
The 50 Bravest men in the world.
You folks here at Double-T Nation are my friends, true I have never meet any of you face to face, but still we share a common love of the Red Raiders. I am sure we all follow different faiths and that there are some of you who claim no faith in any form of divine power. Whether you choose prayer or simply taking a moment to contemplate the greatest love a man can show for his fellow man, please remember these 50 men.
But 50 workers stayed behind, a crew no larger than would be stationed at the plant on a quiet spring day. Taking shelter when possible in the reactor’s control room, which is heavily shielded from radiation, they struggled through the morning and afternoon to keep hundreds of gallons of seawater a minute flowing through temporary fire pumps into the three stricken reactors, Nos. 1, 2 and 3, where overheated fuel rods continued to boil away the water at a brisk pace.
We all know that governments tell half truths, and their is no doubt in my mind that the Japanese government has be doing so in in regards to this latest even at the Fukushima Daiichi power station. 50 men staring down the fires of Hell to save their country from a disaster of unspeakable proportions. I pray they succeed and survive to live long an happy lives, but the realist in me thinks they are sacrificing their lives in the hope of adverting disaster.

I am old and slow, but I just discovered the Marked Men.
Please enjoy while you wait for the spring game.

Even if he did coach at UT an ATM he deserves our respect, one of the great offensive innovators. Al Pickett's book is worth the read. Al's writing has a distinct mid western flare to it an is always an easy read.
A Tech Oasis on the rolling plains of forgotten Texas
The Rock Inn in Seymour has been slinging hash since 1932. Seymour is where SH114 from DFW, US 82 / 277 from Wichita Falls merge to head west to Lubbock. Long before I-20, this was the preferred rout to Lubbock from the DFW area. The owner is a Tech grad from sometime in the middle of the last century so the decor is all red and black. If you want to know what a roadside dinner was like when the Joads were fleeing the dust bowl, this is the place. This is a must stop for any Tech fan.
The sign to look for.
The first hint your in the right place
Yep, you are home.
Note the red and black, also random old people.

Alas it's time to bit farewell to the Rock Inn.

The passing of a great one
"The 5-foot-11, 205-pound back ran his way into the Tech record books with the first 1,000-yard season in school history. The mark of 1,068 yards, which was just the fifth 1,000-yard season in Southwest Conference history, was good enough to earn him honorable mention All-America honors."
Tech should have given this some thought.
Hang and ornament on the Double T Nation Tree.
Post a photo of your favorite tree ornament and tell us the story behind it.
Trust Me.
This has nothing to do with football, basketball, the trial and tribulations of coaches, or a bowl game.
Athlete vs. Football Player
I work with a Tea Sipper and we were having a discussion about the misfortunes of our teams. He brought up this point. Several years ago Mack became enamored with getting the best athletes available not necessarily the best football players. UT now has some of the fastest WRs in the country but they can't catch, they have fast Backs that can't run over people, some of the strongest OL that don't block well.....ect. He used Colt vs. Vince to make his point, Vince was by far the better athlete but Colt was a better football player. At Tech we could use Robert Johnson vs. Lyle Leong, Johnson was a heck of an athlete but Lyle is a ball player. I think the point is valid and to some extent explains UTs problems this year. I also think this is the way Tech competes with likes of UT and OU as they tend to over look the Players who don't fit their Athlete mold.
My questions are:
Is the great athlete that can play that rare? Can the great athlete be coached up in four years? Can Players fit any system, or do you need to fit your Players to the system to beat pure athletes? What is a winnable mix of Players to Athletes. How do you find the Player in a recruit?

Abilene High vs. Midland Lee on ESPN 2
ESPN 3 for the cable\ satellite impaired like me.
Midland Lee is coming off a 56 - 52 loss to Abilene Cooper.
AHS has the dynamic duo of the Sims, Herschel and Ronnell.
Herschel has a commitment to Okie State, which is fine I guess.
Ronnell is still open, and would make a great slot receiver at Tech, ie. small, fast, smart.
Check it out.
Yes this is an official Abilene Homer posting.

I know this is late, but remember that discussion we had about NFL unions? Matt Taibbi of Rolling Stone really ripped "the Heard"
a new one over that issue. I managed to miss this one when it came out. Taibbi is the best writer at the Stone since Hunter F. Thompson.

Tim Griffin is leaving the WWL
It has been an interesting life for the last two years, but now it is time for me to move on to other opportunities.
Abilen High Vs. Katy
I think Tech should take a long look at Sims next year. At the 5:45 mark in the video they both look really good. (Remember they are both JR.s)
Boston Love for our man Wes
Wes Welker lay on his back deep in the Patriots end of the field, looking up into the December gloom and still clutching the ball under his arm. He had just been blasted by Carolina Panthers defensive back Charles Godfrey, the kind of hit that makes a stadium hush. Would he stay in? Would he get up? Welker stood, stumbled, and adjusted his face mask. Then, on third and 2, he walked back into the huddle.
