Is Roger Maris' homerun record on the table again?

It's no slam dunk that Pujols will keep up the same pace suring the second half, but lets just say for arguments sake that he does. What happens if he reaches or eclipses 61 homeruns without the aid of his chemist? My opinion is that all of numbers of players who are found to have used PED's should be stricken from the record books, if not worse. Pete Rose is out forever (or until a new commish comes along) for an offense which is not nearly as damaging to the game as our current group of juicers. In my mind if Pujols gets to 62 then he is the single season record holder. And in ten years he'll pass up Hank Aaron to become the career homerun leader.

All trade talk here: Who would you bring in?

Since none of our opinions really count, let's pretend we get a vote.

[azru update: I'm going to be more aggressive in deleting fanposts that have no substance especially in terms of trades since they're coming in faster and faster. trade talk here. rosterbate away.]

I read today that DeWitt said that the Cards are open to deal but there aren't any names out there that can help the team. (I'm trying to remember and paraphrase. That's not a direct quote). Maybe that's true. It's still fairly early in the season and there arent enough teams out there who are convinced that they are out of the race. But maybe we should be aggressive and start making phone calls as opposed to waiting for the big names to be waived around for everyone to fight over. The way we've been hitting for the last month (We've been the worst in the majors) if we dont hurry up and do something, we'll be the ones having the going out of business sale this year. It seems like almost anyone could be of help to us right now. We're getting nothing close to what we expected from our outfield, aside from Rasmus, who in spite of constant improvement can't even bump Duncan, who I believe may be the worst all around player in the bigs today. Our SS is still suffering anxiety attacks and can't even get on the field, our 3B is still sidelined by the shoulder injury that was supposed to be fixed by May. Skip is holding his own at the plate while tryin to learn his new position. Albert, who is doing great, could probably be doing even better if we gave pitchers a real reason not to pitch around him. Wouldnt it be great to have him see even 5 or 6 more strikes per game? So all I want to know is who you think we could go after. We won't be able to answer all of our problems this year. Some of these guys are just going to have to start stepping up for us to compete. We wont be getting 6 new good postion players in the next few weeks. But who do you think could fill some of these needs for us?

Here's my bright idea

If you've never been to mlbtraderumors.com I highly recommend it. I've been browsing it for the last several years. I think I may have even learned of the JD Drew to the Braves while there a few years back. Anyway, today I saw a story that The Nats may be dealing Adam Dunn in exchange for some good pithcing prospects. If anyone would be willing to pull the trigger, I would love to pull off a deal bringing over Dunn and Belliard and shipping out Duncan/Ankiel (or both) and also offering Walters and Todd. Or something along those lines. Belliard only has 69 AB's and is batting about .170 but that would give us another option for the Middle Infield/ Outfield swaps that Tony wanted use Skip for, it would get rid of Dunc (total flop) and /or Ank, who I still root for and think has better days ahead, but will ultimately leave for more money. I actually expect a little less than a Drew type deal for him next year, his tools impress people. Most importantly that deal would provide some solid and consistent protection for Pujols whether you bat him 2nd or 4th. He strikes out a lot, but he also walks a lot and hits a ton of homers. And we could still pull him late after his last bat to get better Defense in the outfield. Pujols is batting .340 w/ 16 homeruns and zero protection all year. What would he be hitting in a situation where pitchers could not pitch around him because they'd be staring down 285 pounds of Hillbilly Jim (thats what I call Dunn). I think he makes about 15 mil but if you add his production plus what it will do for Pujols I think we'd be getting a bargain. I also think it would really help Raz and Ludwick to have another thumper in the lineup so they can focus on getting their averages up. It may be all a dream, but it's one I would love to wake up to. Wouldn't it be exciting to be the team that pulls off a BIG DEAL THIS YEAR!!! I don't want another broken down second hand pickup who might have a last hurrah in them. I want instant impact and thats what Dunn would be. Lets do something this time.

I can't even count how many people have suggested on this site that Chris Duncan would be an ideal DH for an AL team without one. Well here we are in May and David Ortiz is still looking for homerun #1. The Red Sox fans don't strike me as the types who are willing to keep players on the field based on what they did a few years ago. I think that even with all of the injuries to our everyday lineup our biggest need is still pitching. I was at the Sunday game against the Brewers and watched Welley pitch like a high schooler. I dont know how long we can afford to march him out there the way he's pitching this year. He's looking an awful lot like a mid-reliever that the Cubs fired a couple of years ago. And even if he was pitching better, Joel Piniero seems to have reverted to his old inconsistent ways after a 4-0 start. --I think I got off track--. Anyway, now may be the time for us to explore a trade with the Sox for some mound help. I dont exactly know who we should ask for, but I'm sure that the scouting dept. would have some ideas. I also saw a guy named NeftaliPerez ( I think ) who pitches for the Oklohoma City Redhawks this last week who I would love to see in the Cards organization. Unless the day I saw him was a complete fluke, I'm stunned that he's not in the Rangers rotation yet. He hit 98 several times with nasty offspeed pitches. The only mistake he made was a high slider that wound up in the cheap seats. I think Duncan may be the trading chip that we can afford to depart with most.
