Apparently, Zell has agreed to sell the Cubs to two different groups.

Tribune Co has agreed to terms for the sale of the Chicago Cubs to a group led by private equity investor Marc Utay, giving the company two offers to submit to the bankruptcy court, two sources familiar with the sale process said on Tuesday.

I know the question has been brought up repeatedly, "Why not Sheets to round out the rotation?" Well...

"Finally, an answer to one of this winter's most puzzling questions: Why is the National League's All-Star Game starting pitcher still looking for a job?

"...Sheets may need surgery to repair the torn flexor tendon in his elbow" Follow the link for the full article. The Brewers may also be on the tab for the surgery

Signed to a $750m Minor League deal with the intention of making him a swingman and lefty out of the pen.

As much as I hated seeing him take the mound towards the end of his Cubs career, I'm happy that he seems to be fully recovered from his health scare that looked as though it might end his career. We'll always have the memories of those bombs that Bronson Arroyo hit...

Barrett to 1B?

What about moving Barrett to 1b? Using Blanco as your every day catcher, and bring up Reyes or Soto off of the Active Roster? Barrett has corner infield experience and a decent enough glove for first. If he were playing first, his bat would be in the line-up more often than at catcher, as he wouldn't need 1-2 days a week rest. Blanco's bat would be sufficent enough for the 8-hole, and there's a reasonable possiblity that Barrett puts up better numbers without the stress of catching on his body.

Barrett has improved his defense and his game calling, but I would argue that Blanco is still superior on both counts. As an added plus, Barrett stays fresher for the last couple of months of the season when he moves back behind the plate. Your every day lineup would be something along the lines of:

Pierre
Walker
Barrett
Aram
Murton
Jones
Cedeno
Blanco

Far from ideal, but you still have decent run production out of your top-5 and a passable defense.
