Grady wins Gold Glove
Michael Young, really?
Lee, Lidge earn Comeback Awards
Lee, Cleveland's first 20-game winner since 1974, landed on 26 of the 30 ballots -- one for each MLB.com team reporter -- with 24 first-place votes and two seconds for 76 points. He easily outdistanced runner-up Mike Mussina of the Yankees and third-place finisher Milton Bradley of the Rangers.
Scout the Tribe defense
Tom Tango, author of The Book, has run a study for the past few years that measures defensive ability by aggregating the opinions of fans who watch a particular team and has opened up the balloting for this year's teams.
"What I would like to do now is tap that pool of talent. I want you to tell me what your eyes see. I want you to tell me how good or bad a fielder is. Go down, and start selecting the team(s) that you watch all the time. For any player that you've seen play in at least 10 games in 2008, I want you to judge his performance in 7 specific fielding categories.
Try to judge "average" not as an average player at that position, but an average player at any position. If you think that Willie Bloomquist has an average arm, then mark him as average, regardless if you've seen him play 2B, SS, 3B, LF, or CF.
DO NOT CONSIDER THE POSITION THE PLAYER PLAYS!"
Red Sox set to break MLB sellout record
The 456th consecutive sellout at Fenway Park will break the record set by the Cleveland Indians' die-hards, who packed Jacobs Field for all 455 home games played from June 12, 1995-April 2, 2001.
Records are made to be broken I guess, but this sucks.
Vic back tonight
[Edit (Ryan)]: To make room for Martinez, the Indians have Designated Andy Gonzalez for Assignment.
Jhere's Jhonny!
I got this link in my Thrillist e-mail this morning. They have some pretty fantastic Cleveland shirts. Seriously considering the 'Jhere's Jhonny" model....

Wrigley trip
I'm a visitor from the Indians SBN site, Let's Go Tribe! but thought I should drop in here to get some advice. A buddy and I are taking a trip to Wrigley in late August for a Saturday afternoon game against the Phillies. It's shaping up to be an important game and I'm pretty excited. It will be my second trip to Wrigley, but my first was 15 years ago and I don't remember much.
Anyway, does anyone have any tips for places to stay within walking distance of the stadium? Any suggestions or recommendations for bars or restaurants around Wrigleyville?
Blanton to Phillies
The Athletics get second baseman Adrian Cardenas, pitcher Josh Outman and outfielder Matthew Spencer, all minor leaguers.
Cliff Lee named AL All-Star game starter
"The left-handed Lee's dominant first half has pushed him to the forefront in his first career All-Star appearance. American League manager Terry Francona named Lee as the AL starter on Monday, a high honor that stands as Lee's reward for his incredible comeback."
I got a good laugh out of these and thought I should share. There's others on youtube in the Hardball Made Easy series with Zambrano, Hawpe, and Ethier. Gary C!
