My thoughts from a recovered "Broncos are going down the wrong path" guy....

First, I've said it earlier and I'll say it again. I couldn't have been more wrong about McD, and I couldn't be happier for being so wrong. More after the jump:

Apologies:

1. Sorry Coach McD for not giving you the benefit of the doubt. I thought you were too young and arrogant for your own good. I thought you were trying to hard to be Belichick. I wondered if you were just another product of the Patriot system where they spin out new head coaches that can't really be a head coach. I was wrong on all accounts.

2. Sorry Mr. Bowlen for thinking you were crazy for handing over the keys to McD. I thought you were losing your touch. You are now 2 for 2 for finding young brilliant football minds to lead your football team.

3. Sorry Kyle Orton. I have been back-and-forth on you. I thought you were a stop gap solution at best. I told myself and posted here that I would reserve judgment until after your glove was off. After the Dallas game, I became impatient and no longer cared about the glove, I had my reservations about your performance. This week, you were finally without your glove and you were spectacular. And in retrospect, more than good enough in the Dallas game as well. Excellent, excellent, game yesterday.

Wow factor:

4. I believe a defense is defined in the second half of games. I read on ESPN.Boston today that on 3rd downs in the second half this season, the Broncos have only given up 2 of 31 first downs. That is absolutely amazing!

5. Brandon Marshall buying into the system. Get him in the red zone and is nothing short of very, very special. And big credit to that last 3rd down in OT where Coach McD (in maybe not the best decision), called a go route for Marshall, and Marshall made darn sure that the ball was not intercepted.

6. The special team gives up two first downs on penalties to keep the Pats drive alive, and the defense still keeps them from scoring. That is serious heart.

7. The offense with scoring drives of 90 and 98 yards.....oh yeah baby!!!

8. The chills I got when I say McD pumping his fists and hugging his players after the game with the crowd going manic. I haven't had that feeling during a Bronco game since I believe the first Super Ball win.

____

I could come up with some thoughts on more critical critiques, but that is what I usually do. After this game, I'm still feeling too good to take a critical look.

Trading Marshall would create constant turmoil in Denver

I think it is an absolutely terrible idea to trade Marshall and here is why: We just let Cutler cry his way out of Denver just a couple of short months ago. I have read MSM articles on how Curtler has created the blueprint on how to get out of Denver. Blueprint? Really? He simply said I want to be traded and didn't return Bronco executive phone calls. Although for very different reasons (money), Marshall follows this "blueprint" and says he wants out of Denver. I know he isn't (so far) cutting off communication with management. A lot of posters are saying to BM, "fine, if you don't want to be here then go somewhere else". Um, that is a bad way to look at this, in my opinion. I am not going to debate his off field issues or his abilities on the field. What is important is that he must stay. He must stay because it cannot be this easy to get out of Denver. I am sure there were times in every players mind when they wanted out of Denver, including Elway and everybody else.....well except Rod Smith. They may have only wanted out for a month or so before they got over it, but they probably wanted out. If we keep saying that if you don't want to play for the Broncos then we will make sure we accomodate you, then this will never end. I don't care if we like BM or not. I don't care if we sit him the whole year. Just don't trade him!

Why draft focus mirrors free agency focus

OK. So we spend most of our free agent signings on running backs and defensive backs. I was assuming that McD didn't like any of the front 7 free agents that were available. It seemed odd that we didn't find anybody that would be considered an upgrade. It seemed the consensus here was that we would focus on the front 7 in the draft. The draft comes along and we focus on running backs and defensive backs again. I have never heard of such a strategy. I am a bit skeptical of this.... can anybody help justify the strategy?
