opening day tickets
Forgive me if this isn't appropriate, and feel free to delete if it isn't, but I'm starting to get desperate. I need 3-4 opening day tickets, preferably not SRO or bleacher. Anyone have any ideas other than StubHub at this point? I've looked on ebay, craigslist, etc, and it's just crazy expensive right now. I haven't missed opening day in 5 years because I've gotten lucky with hookups and lotteries, but so far no such luck this year.
Parity in baseball
With the Rays being in the playoffs, it occurs to me that this might be another arrow in the quiver of those who might defend baseball's parity in comparison to other professional sports. However, it also occurs to me that it might be very helpful to have some sort of actual objective measure(s) of parity to compare with other sports (like the NFL, which many consider a panacea of parity).
So, how do we measure parity? One time a person told me parity is how much a fan "feels" like their team is still in it. I suppose a poll could measure that, but I'd like something more objective: playoff appearances, playoff wins, world series appearances, world series wins, etc, which can be compared to other sports. Any thoughts?

Reds @ Cleveland, June 29, Eyewitness Report
I was in the nosebleed section. I was 1 row away from the highest seats possible.
That being said: Bronson's changeup looked ridiculously good through the whole game.
A lot of Reds fans in the park, and I got some friendly ribbing for my Reds attire from Cleveland fans.
If you haven't been to Progressive, I recommend going: it's a very nice park. The concessions seemed a little bland and generic, but maybe I was just looking in the wrong place. Also, I really like the Indians throwback uniforms (especially the block-C hats).
IRS agent improperly looking at Reds players accounts
"Authorities say the case dates to 2003 and involves nearly 200 celebrities, including Kevin Bacon, Alec Baldwin, Sally Field, Chevy Chase, Randy Quaid and Tara Reid, as well as Cincinnati Bengals coach Marvin Lewis and former Cincinnati Reds players."

Weathers now on the DL
I guess this makes the Fogg move to the bullpen easier, though I'd still rather see Coffey dropped.
Gonzo has a fracture
"An MRI exam performed on injured shortstop Alex Gonzalez showed that he still had a compression fracture in his left knee, the club revealed on Monday.
Already on the 15-day disabled list, Gonzalez will continue to take batting practice and ground balls, but he won't be cleared to run for another 2-4 weeks. "
Reds projected to a winning season
Three guys at Yahoo Sports project the Reds to have a winning season (or at least a .500 season): Y! experts peer into a crystal baseball.
They aren't projecting the Reds of taking the division, but certainly aren't saying the Cubs will run away with it either.
Great article about Harang
"The first time I really talked to Bud Black, the first question he asked me was: What's the best pitch in baseball?" Harang said. "It caught me off guard. I said 'fastball' or something like that, and he was like, 'No, it's strike one. It's the best pitch in baseball.' That's always stuck in the back of my head."
Castellini will fire himself
Castellini will fire himself if the Reds don't win in 2008.
"If we don't win this year, we might all get fired and I'll start by firing myself," he said.
For you NASCAR fans
I'm not a NASCAR fan, but for those of you who are, here's some info about the first NASCAR night with the Reds...
Beginning at 5:30 p.m., drivers Kyle Busch, Terry Labonte and Eric McClure will join NASCAR legend Rusty Wallace and other NASCAR celebrities for a one hour autograph session. Current and former Reds players and coaches will also sign autographs for the first 200 fans in line in the NASCAR Pit Area at 2 p.m.
Moeller Traded
The Cincinnati Reds traded catcher Chad Moeller to the Los Angeles Dodgers for cash considerations on Saturday.
Yahoo sports linkWhat is usually meant by "cash considerations"?
Freel out for the season
Cincinnati Reds infielder-outfielder Ryan Freel on Wednesday had season-ending arthroscopic surgery to repair torn cartilage and to clean out the meniscus in his right knee.
Not easy being Wayne
This time around, Krivsky's antagonists accuse him of not doing anything at all with the veteran inventory in his cupboard, save the obvious move of trading Kyle Lohse for a prospect. Maybe the current condemners are a different lot than last year's - but don't you see the contradiction?
Griffey not being traded
It looks like once again, all the rumors are for naught (for better or worse).
"It appears that future Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. will not be leaving the Cincinnati Reds in the near future."
Braves try to get Arroyo but fail
"The Atlanta Braves have been trying to make a deal for Cincinnati Reds right-hander Bronson Arroyo."
More on second guessing
I thought I would try to make a point (probably futile) about second guessing. This will be my last attempt, because I don't want to sound like a Michael-style broken record.
A lot of lament has gone on at this site about Brendan Harris and how Krivsky is the worst GM of all time to give him up.
Father's Day Eyewitness report
I took my dad down to the park for Father's Day. It was actually his first time at GABP, so that was nice. Also, this is the first time I've been down this year since Opening Day.
Stray-rod
I found this on Irish Elk, which, among other things, posts interesting tidbits about baseball from time to time.
It's not Reds-related, but I thought you all might find it amusing, especially in light of the recent discussion about ethics and morality.
Junior as an ambassador
[Griffey] said he recently received a letter from Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice asking if he would like to be a "public diplomat."
Baseball Prospectus : Playoff odds
I always enjoy reading Baseball Prospectus, especially the Postseason Odds, as I have a passing interest in risk/simulation models.
Gonzo : Player of the week
"Cincinnati Reds shortstop Alex Gonzalez, who slugged a National League-best 1.040...[has] been named Bank of America Presents the National League Co-Players of the Week for April 23-29, 2007."
Encarnacion benched for not running out pop fly
PHOENIX -- Cincinnati manager Jerry Narron benched cleanup hitter Edwin Encarnacion after he failed to run out a pop fly in the first inning of the Reds' 3-2 victory over Arizona on Wednesday night.
George Brett's crotch
If you've never heard of eyetracking, it's a fantastic tool in design and usability.
Ruhle passes away from cancer
CINCINNATI -- Former Reds pitching coach Vern Ruhle, who missed the 2006 season while being treated for cancer, lost his battle and died on Saturday night.
Reds to file complaint on Nats
"The Reds are planning to seek the council of the Commissioner's office about the trade that sent reliever Gary Majewski from the Nationals to the Reds this past season, according to The Cincinnati Post."
