Crimson And Cream Machine Sooner Nation Network?

So the Shorthorns got their own tv deal with ESPiN earlier this week. So what the Sooners counter with anything you can to we can do better. Here is an article from the Tulsa World about the new and way better Sooner Nation Network.

On a side note Texas Tech took TCU off their OOC schedule for a second straight year. Can you say FEAR?

Lone Star Ball Zack Greinke is not happy

Read the rest of the story here

Maybe Moore will have a AARP moment and say fine you want out here you go.

Now all this might mean nothing right now but what if he continues to pop off and tries to force the Royals hand? Now that the Rangers have GnR in place might they take a run at Greinke in the offseason? If so what would be the cost? Perez and Font for Greinke would ya?

UPDATE: ESPN.com's Buster Olney suggests the Royals will probably start seriously listening to offers for Zack Greinke this winter. The reigning Cy Young Award winner expressed his frustration with the organization yesterday.

Lone Star Ball Official Trade Deadline Thread

It appears the Rangers are talking to several teams to try to  upgrade at 1b and another starting pitcher. The Marlins appear to be the team the Rangers are honing in on for both. Here are a few rumors. If anyone has more just dump them here.

Teams are asking the Marlins about Chris Volstad's availability, according to Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post (Twitter link). The Marlins appear undecided about the approach they'll take at the deadline, but they are reluctant to deal Volstad, Ricky Nolasco or Leo Nunez. The Rangers inquired on Volstad, but were turned away, according to Capozzi (Twitter link).

Volstad, 24 in September, has a 4.76 ERA with 6.1 K/9 and 3.5 BB/9 so far this season. The 6'8" righty is under team control through the 2014 season, and won't hit arbitration until after next year, so it's no surprise that the Marlins prefer to keep him.

Volstad has logged 104 innings so far this season and is on track to surpass his career-high of 159. Unlike many of his teammates, Volstad had not been mentioned in trade rumors this summer before today.

3:55pm: The Rangers are "closing in" on a deal for Cantu, a source tells Gordon Edes of ESPNBoston.com.

3:30pm: The Rangers have asked about Cantu more than other clubs have, but they don't necessarily have an edge over the Giants or Rockies, according to Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post (via Twitter).

7:44am: The Rangers are known to be seeking a right-handed hitting first baseman, perhaps a platoon partner for Chris DavisUSA Today's Bob Nightengale tweets that they are "in deep conversations" with the Marlins for Jorge Cantu, and "taking a close look" at the Cubs' Derrek Lee.  They'd also like to add another starting pitcher and a lefty reliever.

Lee is the new name in the mix for the Rangers, though he and Cantu are used to being regulars.  Neither player has hit like a regular first baseman this year - Cantu is at .260/.309/.412, and Lee stands at .251/.338/.391.  Their contracts are significant - Cantu has $2.28MM remaining and Lee has $4.95MM.  The Rangers have also been linked to players such as Ty Wigginton, Mike Lowell, and Wes Helms.

Nightengale's contention that the Rangers would like to add another starter is surprising.  Four days ago, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports suggested on Twitter that a pitching surplus could make Rich Harden or Scott Feldman trade bait.

I get the feeling JD is not done.

Lone Star Ball Cliff Notes

Ok I figured since tonights going to be a huge night for all of us in Rangerland I would start a fan post where we could add what the nation is saying about the Rangers and The Trade. Feel free to add links and discuss.

In today's blog post at ESPN (Insider req'd), Buster Olney names the winners and losers in yesterday's Cliff Lee deal. Beyond the obvious, he says the Red Sox and Rays win because Lee stays away from the team they're chasing in the AL East while the Athletics and Angels lose because he's going to the team they're chasing in the AL West. Olney also dubs the Phillies losers because yesterday's trade again showed that they didn't receive as much as they could have for Lee when they traded him last winter.
As Andrew Marchand of ESPNNewYork.com puts it, "there is still a feeling around baseball that it is a matter of when, not if, Cliff Lee will become a Yankee."  Lee is a free agent at the end of the season and given the uncertainly surrounding the Rangers' ownership situation, it's unknown exactly what the club's payroll or overall financial status will be come winter.  Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports (via Twitter) that the Rangers feel they can sign Lee to a long-term deal should the sale of the team be settled, but even with this stability, it means that the Rangers will still need to face the Yankees in a bidding war --- a daunting task for any club when pursuing a player that New York truly seems to want.
By Mark Polishuk [July 9 at 5:40pm CST]

Now that we know for sure that Cliff Lee is headed to the Rangers, the pundits are already chiming in about the big swap --- both about what it means for Texas and Seattle, and about what it means for the teams that fell short in the Lee sweepstakes.

  • Since the Rangers didn't have to give up any of their blue-chip pitching prospects, the trade is "a huge, huge 'win' for" Texas, tweets Evan P. Grant of the Dallas Morning News.
  • Grant also tweets that he was told that one of those young pitchers, Martin Perez, "was deemed untouchable" by the team.
  • Jim Bowden of Sirius XM Radio thinks "both teams win on this deal," though the Rangers are the "biggest winner" since it helps their chances in October.  Bowden also compliments the Mariners for getting more talent back for Lee than they dealt to acquire him in the winter.  (Twitter link).
  • USA Today's Bob Nightengale writes that last night, the Rangers thought that Lee was going to the Yankees.  (Twitter link)  Nightengale also thinks this trade makes Texas GM Jon Daniels the executive of the year.
  • The Phillies are taking some heat for not getting as much minor league talent for Lee when they dealt him over the winter.  ESPN's Jayson Stark tweets that one scouting director rated Philadelphia's haul for Lee as "last by a long shot" compared to what Seattle and Cleveland both got for the pitcher within the last year.
  • John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that the Reds "made what they thought was a serious offer" for Lee today, though Fay thinks both "the Rangers and Yankees offered a better package than the Reds could have put together."
  • Ed Price of Fanhouse.com comments that the Rays didn't want to give up any significant prospects for Lee (via Twitter), while the Mets simply didn't have the caliber of prospects that Seattle was looking for.  Price notes, however, that Jeremy Guthrie could be on the Mets' radar screen.
  • The Mets could use this Lee deal as a guideline, however, tweets ESPN's Buster Olney.  The Mets could follow the Rangers' example and try to get a trading partner to add money into a deal, since Olney reports that New York won't be able to add to their payroll before the deadline.
  • Rays manager Joe Maddon is unsurprisingly happy that Lee isn't in Yankee pinstripes, reports Marc Topkin of the St. Petersburg Times.
  • Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski says his team "had interest [in Lee], but we didn’t come close to a deal," reports John Lowe of the Detroit Free Press.

Just another outlet to talk about Cliff "Mother Fucking" Lee

After sleeping on the trade I really feel good about This Thing going forward. Let's keep in mind before we assume Lee leaves to go the the Fucking Yankmees a story broke that Lee and his agent brought up a contract extension with the M's. So if the owner situation gets resolved there is a chance.

ALL HAIL CLIFF LEE DAY!!

Lone Star Ball Cliff Lee is a TEXAS RANGER!!

The Yankees were 'on the brink' of acquiring Cliff Lee last night, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post. Top catching prospect Jesus Montero would head to the Mariners in the potential deal. Seattle GM Jack Zduriencik wants to move quickly and has been in 'constant contact' with Yankees GM Brian Cashman over the course of the last week, according to Sherman. Other clubs remain involved, but the Yankees are the heavy favorite to acquire the lefty.

Update: Lee is supposed to face the Yankees tonight, but talks are intensifying, reports Jon Heyman of SI.com. Discussions between the Yankees and Mariners appear serious and it's 'quite possible' that a deal will be completed.

Update: Sherman hears that the Mariners would get at least three prospects, including Montero. Second baseman David Adams appears to be in the mix. Lee is supposed to face the Yankees tonight, but that could change. If a trade is completed today, Lee will not face the Mariners tonight, or possibly for the entire weekend series

Update: Meanwhile ESPN.com's Buster Olney reports that no deal is in place, and the Mariners could double back to continue discussions with the Rays, Twins, Rangers, Reds and others. The Mariners initially had a ‘huge’ asking price for Lee, but lowered their demands yesterday. As Olney points out, a trade for Lee could mean Javier Vazquez’s days in the Bronx are numbered.

Update: 10:44: Catching prospect Jesus Montero and second base prospect David Adams will head to the Mariners, possibly with another prospect, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, who broke the story.

Maybe there is a way we can get him without Smoak in the deal?

I don't know much about this kid. Who would be comparable in our system?

I guess this saves us from trading Smoak.

Go Rangers!

Lone Star Ball Opening Day roll call

Ok who is going to Opening Day and where are you sitting? I will be getting there right at 10am when the gates open.

My seats are: Section 40 Row 27 Seat 1 & 2

Here's the thing aobut baseball fans: it isn't just that we care. It isn't just that we care deeply. It isn't just that the daily marathon of a baseball season consumes a larger portion of our brains, our souls, and our nervous systems than anything else in our lives (and, yes, you can take anything as literally as you please). It isn't just that we can spew statistical numbers--755; 511; 56; 73; 4,256; .366--more easily than we can our own phone numbers (and if you needed to look up those numbers to know that they are Hank Aaron's career home-run total; Cy Young's career victory total; Joe DiMaggio's seminal hitting-streak number; Barry Bonds' single-season home-run mark; Pete Rose's all-time hit mark; and Ty Cobb's all-time batting average record, then perhaps you aren't as big a baseball fan as you thought).

Heck, it isn't just that we can spend hour upon hour upon hour in saloons, salons, and sacristies peacefully arguing about the game (unless the discussion revolves around the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry, in which case bloodshed is inevitable).

No. Baseball means even more to us than that.

Lone Star Ball Sept. 3 The chase for the Playoffs thread

Our Little Rangers are on their way to Baltimore  to take on the hated O's in there quest for their first playoff birth since 1999. So since the Rangers have an off day we still have baseball games to watch with interest.

First and only game we need to keep an eye on tonight is the Boston Baked Beans on the road against the Rays. On the bump for the FatSox is LSB's favorite young pitcher Buchholz taking on first round pick Price. I don't need to tell all of you we really need the Rays to be our Ray of sunshine and help us close to within 2 games of the Wild Card.

Go Rangers go!!

Lone Star Ball Holland is here, Rupe DFA'd

Per Evan Grant Holland is up and Rupe has been DFA'd. So it begins, one has to wonder when Happy Happy gets a call up. I would much rather lose while the kids get their learning curve out of the way this year. This is an exciting time to be a Rangers fan after that debacle last night. Now we are left wondering when the hammer drops on Wash. I really don't think Washington last through next week.

UPDATE BY AJM -- Z has a write-up on Holland at the DMN blog.

Lone Star Ball Roberto Alomar accused of having AIDS

Roberto Alomar has full blown AIDS and insisted on having unprotected sex, his ex-girlfriend charged tuesday.

Alomar has AIDS

If true he should be locked up so he can never do this to another woman again. What a sorry pig he is. It is a shame people are out there that do this knowing what they have and how it could effect others. I don't care how pissed you are you should have some moral values in your life. But hey we are talking about the same guy that spit on an umpire.

Crimson And Cream Machine Big Game Bob

Just thought I would pass this on. Dennis Dodd has an article up on Bob Stoops very good read.

Big Game Bob has been big time for Oklahoma, and more. http://www.sportsline.com/collegefootball/story/11211555

Very good read and just how important this game is for his legacy and the Sooners. It is hard to believe this will be Stoops 4th NC game since he came to Oklahoma. There isn't another college or fans that wouldn't want that at their school in America. We are very lucky to have Big Game Bob on our sideline. Here is to another 10 years.

BOOMER SOONER!!

Lone Star Ball Spurs on their way

Looks like the Spurs are on their way to winning a 4th championship. They are not flashy they just go and get things done. Just think if the refs had not called a foul on Ginobili in the final seconds of game 7 last year the Spurs might be working on a back to back.

Lone Star Ball Soriano

This drives me crazy seeing Sori playing the OF for Washington and now the Cubbies. If Buck had any balls he would have forced Sori to play the OF here and maybe we would still have him probably not but still wouldn't he look good in our OF instead of what we have now.
