Help with the new barner girlfriend.
I have a new girlfriend, and I have been unable to find anything wrong with her other than being a huge barn fan, so she may be a keeper. I haven't tried to hide my disdain for all things orange and blue, and with an epic beatdown about to happen, plus the IB coming up things could be a little tense. I am the one who posted the following last year during the discussion about whether to pull for the barn in the NC game.
Pull for the barn?
You should schedule a complete physical with your Dr., and be sure of his allegiance beforehand. You need to be certain of no hidden heart problems, and or weakened blood vessels that might pop causing a stroke. You should be sure of no stomach issues because this will cause the worst case of indigestion ever known to the medical community. I think you should also have a complete psychological evaluation, with the premise that you must have issues to even be thinking this, much less putting it in print. If you pass all these test, and still want to pull for the barn go for it. You might want to go ahead and schedule an appointment with your priest / rabbi / minister / imam for after the NC game for some much needed soul cleansing confessions. If you’re a muslim, you might want to strap some explosives to your body and tour the lovliest trailerpark on the plains, (just kidding ). As I said on another post “I couldn’t pull for the barn if they were playing a combo of Tenn. and Notre Dame.” I am no Dr. nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn last night but this is my prescription for your thoughts."
I could some sage advice from the wise people on RBR to help me out with this relationship. Thank you for your help
A trip to Tuscaloosa
I have been debating whether to write about my recent trip to the Crimson Mecca, aka Tuscaloosa, but since things are slow even with spring training going on I decided to go ahead. Maybe someone will find it interesting.
On March 13th I had purchased tickets to the Suds of the South beerfest, and that seemed to be a good day to spend in Titletown. Since the suds weren't being poured until four o'clock we started with a trip to the Bryant Museum. Seeing all the great memorabila and that was the first day the National Championship Trophies were on display at the museum, along with the SEC championship trophy. Rolandos' Butkus award was also part of the display. The only thing missing was Mark Ingrams' Heisman Trophy, which was still at the Athletic complex. While in the gift shop a lady came in and introduced herself to the cashier, her name immediately caught my attention because it was Mary Harmon _ _ _ _ _ _. I asked if she was part of coach Bryants family, and she was his grandaughter. She spent about five good minutes talking with us, just two annoying fans. She told me what it was like growing up with the most famous coach in college football, not to mention most well known person in the state of Alabama. She answered all our questions with the grace only a southern lady could show. She excused herself only after her group finished the film they were watching. I truly believe she showed the most class of anyone I've ever met. That experience will be with me for a lifetime. If anyone reading this happens to know her please thank her again for me.
After that it was on to what was supposed to have been the highlight of the trip, the beerfest. I had a great time tasting almost everything there, with my favorite beer being an Oatmeal Porter, and my favorite Brewery being the Good people Brewery.
Throw in a trip to Dreamland Ribs and a look at the stadium addition and this day could only be topped By witnessing another great Crimson Tide victory.
Recruiting and Committment?
As a lifelong Bama fan currently living in Cullman I was excited when I read that Spencer Region was announcing his choice of schools today. I am an avid college football fan who reads all the blogs, not only Bama sites but all the SB Nation blogs. I am recovering from a serious accident almost a year ago and have way too much time on my hands so living less than five minutes away from the site of his announcement I decided to attend. I had communicated with OTS who told me to get some pictures to post on RBR, which I was excited to do.
I found myself between the members of the press and some members of his family when the decision was revealed. There was what I can only describe as polite applause, but there was such a strange, weird feel about the whole thing. Everyone seemed to be confused, thinking the punch line was coming. I too have read all the things about a lifelong dream to play for the Tide, and all the other things. I have seen him around town wearing Bama t-shirts. Are "lifelong dreams" thrown away so quickly? I heard a member of the press say as late as Friday he had told him he was a Bama lock.
I waited several hours before writing this trying to find some objectivity. I still feel the way I did when I left there, there is something wrong with this picture, for me it doesn't pass the "smell test"
How crazy does the National Championship make Auburn fans?
Share your thoughts or actual stories of Auburn fans losing it over this win by Bama. The best I've heard would be Reeltowns village idiot Charles. On the finebaum show before the Heisman Trophy was awarded he said on air if Ingram won the Heisman Trophy, and Bama won the National Championship he would move to Georgia. On Fridays show he said he wasn't going anywhere, and went on an incoherient rant that was priceless, even if you couldn't understand any of it. Apparently he hocked the wheels to his mobile home to buy florida Gators and Texas Longhorn gear for his new favorite teams.
