Florida Better on Offense Sans Tebow?
While Florida was good on offense last year many fans (myself included) wanted to see more passing and less of Tebow running. We wanted to see the game plan from the Sugar Bowl not the ones from the SEC schedule. As Year2 points out it took a loss in both 2008 and 2009 for UF to open the playbook and score like it should have been doing prior to the loss.
Many think Florida (offensively at least) will look something like the 2006 team, with Brantley playing Chris Leak and Trey Burton or Jordan Reed (when not playing Tight End) doing their best to imitate Tebow. While the analogy is decent I think the 2010 offense can be better. The main reason is: Tim Tebow will be gone.
Can Florida and Alabama meet three times this season?
The 2010 college football season could be one where there is no undefeated team from the Big 6 conferences. Florida and Alabama are figured to meet twice this year, once in the regular season and again in the SEC Championship Game (SECCG). But could they meet for a third time in Glendale for the National Championship (NC)?
Both teams have tough schedules facing them, Bama plays host to Penn State, goes to Arkansas, plays Florida at home and also travels to LSU. Florida has to play at Tennessee, at Bama and at Florida State. If the games in Tuscaloosa and the SECCG are epic battles and are split could the BCS computations work out to have them meet for a third time?
Before we can consider that, we must think of what has to happen beyond the SEC. Most of what follows is predicated on the fact that Florida and Alabama as one loss teams are better teams than any other one loss teams out there. Florida and Alabama play considerably tougher schedules than the teams mentioned after the jump and to me this bolsters there chance to meet for a third time.
SEC Teams Strength of Schedule
Bumped from the FanPosts -Year2
In keeping with Tuesday's post I decided to see how the SEC teams' schedules look using 2009's final FEI rankings. FEI is a stat compiled by the guys over at FootballOutsiders.com, if you haven't been to their site, go take a look. They break down both the NFL and FBS teams and are looking for guys to help them chart the FBS for 2010 (pay included). After the jump there will be chart showing the break down for the SEC and a 6 team sample from other conferences.
SEC Out of Conference Scheduling
Each SEC team plays 4 out-of-conference (OoC) games, obvious I know, but all the other conferences consistently remark how all we play are cupcakes and for most teams that is true. 75% of OoC games for the teams are against cupcakes. However, all the teams this year except for Ole Miss (Jax, Tulane, Fresno St, & UL-Laf) play at least one strong team (LSU two).
I still agree with Steve Spurrier's statement that playing in the SEC is tough enough to justify the cupcakes and one strong OoC game. But the question is how many of this year's 48 games does the SEC need to win to keep people from complaining too loudly?
