There have been posts about anything and everything concerning the Chiefs. We have fans for and against everything the Chiefs have did in the last few years. We have either liked or disliked Scott Pioli, Todd Haley, the asst coaches,the new defense and list goes on and on. I wont go into every topic that has been discussed in the last few years but there will always be people that look at each situation differently.

Nobody can argue what Lamar Hunt has did for the NFL and the Chiefs. I don't know if he didn't trust Clark Hunt at the time or he just thought Carl Peterson was what was best for the Chiefs at the time, but Lamar gave Carl to much power to a man that had no vested interest in the Chiefs besides getting a paycheck. Don't get me wrong Carl did a great job getting fans back in the seats and putting a product on the field that was worth watching, but he out stayed his welcome.

When Clark Hunt first took over for the team he didn't just come in and change everything he let the things his father had put in place continue to do their job, while he was watching and learning. Then when he was ready it was time to make this his team.

The point of my post is the Chiefs are in good hands. Clark will not let someone get too much power again and as he has said in interviews Pioli talks with him about the decisions about this team. He hired the person he thought was best for the team but make no mistake, and he has proven that if he doesn't like they way things are going he isn't afraid to make big moves. You may or may not like they way Pioli is handling things right now, but at least we can all be sure that Clark is keeping an eye on him and if he doesn't see this team going in the direction he wants he will make moves to correct it.

Here is to the Chiefs heading in the right direction to bring another championship to Kansas city.

Pioli can't have it both ways.

First, I liked that Pioli and Haley were hired and I also know that it is going to take more than one off season to fix the mess that Herm created. With all the changes that happened yesterday, it made me wonder about somethings.

Pioli has said in interviews that most of the players we are cutting aren't getting picked up by other teams and that says a lot about the talent that was on this team. But like the title says he can't have it both ways because also the players he has been picking up have also been sitting at home waiting for someone to call. Other people on here have said it also, that it just seems like we are just trading players nobody wants for other players nobody wants.

I do understand what Pioli is trying to do, he did have some success with finding players that didn't do well with other teams and did good in NE. We are going into the 4th week of the season and we have 3 new players on our starting roster and it doesn't seem like they are done yet. At some point the players have to become a team, get to know the player next to you and be able to trust that they will do their job. The reason I say this is that there were times in the Eagles game that they only had 4 players rushing and we had 7 players in to protect and we still didn't stop them, I don't care how talented a team is, 7 players should be able to stop 4 players every time.

 <fieldset class="poll-box">
 <legend>Poll</legend>

If you were Gm what would you do?

I'll start off by saying when comparing last years Chiefs to this years I see improvement on all sides of the ball, there is still a lot of work to be done but everything takes time.

A lot of people on here blame the defense for losing the first game against the Ravens. And blaming the offense for the loss to the Raiders. Yes the defense gave up 500 yards but they held the Ravens to 17 points in 3 quarters of the game, and special teams and the defense did things that led to 14 points being put on the board. If you look at the Ravens next game against SD, The Chargers defense gave up 300 yards but the Ravens scored 28 points in 3 quarters. So with being able to look back our defense did give up a lot of yards but stopped them for scoring for the most part until the 4th quarter. The defense showed it can play again this week against the Raiders. I don't know what is the reason but something has been haunting us in the 4th quarter for awhile, and Haley needs to fix it.

Now to look at the offense, the first game most people thought Brodie Croyle played very well, but the offense only had 188 yards the whole game, the Chargers were able to put up almost 500 yards against the Ravens. Then if you look at Matt Cassel, he and the offense put up 409 yards against the Raiders and the Chargers put up 317 yards against the Raiders. So by looking at the numbers our defense has did good for 3 quarters and our offense did better with Cassel (just needed to get the rust off). If Haley can find out what seems to happen to the defense in the 4th quarter and fix it, and have the offense work on the 2 minute drill, we could be a better team than most of us thought this year. Maybe not going to the SB this year but not picking in the top 5 of the draft again either.

 <fieldset class="poll-box">
 <legend>Poll</legend>

We know the Chiefs are 0-2 but as far as playing are they better or worse than you thought they would be?

Why 4 QB's

Most believe they are keeping them till Cassel is back, but it has been said Cassel should be back by week 1 or week 2 at most. If that is the case it still doesn't make sense to keep 3 Qb's unless you have no faith in any of your back-ups, you are wasting a spot you could use for another position. Just like a lot of things Pioli/Haley have done we might never know why they have did this, It is just something that didn't make sense to me.

It has also been said they are keeping Thigpen to work out a trade. We do know they were talking about trading Thigpen but I never bought into the whole playing Thigpen with the 2nd string to show him off for other teams for a trade. First Haley/Pioli don't seem like the type to change what they are doing just for other teams, There is plenty of game tape to look at for Thigpen. You take a chance of the player getting hurt, and just like what happened the player could play really bad. Lets look at it from the other side, If they were just working him with the 2nd team just for other teams why would they play him for the whole 3 quarters after Cassel went down? If your starting QB went down wouldn't you want your 2nd string QB to go in and get reps with the first team just in case the starter is out for awhile?

I would like to see what AP thinks is the reasoning for keeping 4 QB's on the roster when the spots are so important when trying to build a team that has been so bad the last few years. My thoughts are Matt Cassel is more hurt than they are letting on so the think they might need all three or like Gretz said in one of his articles none of the QB's have clearly take that 2nd spot. So Haley might be taking more time to choose and maybe see who was let go from other teams during the cuts.

Arrowheads

When I first heard of guys earning their Kansas city Chiefs, Arrowheads, I thought it was a good idea. Give players something to strive for and when players started getting them it might light a fire under the others, they would think, Oh the team is starting to fill up I better do something more to prove myself.

With the cut down almost here, and still nobody has earned one for sure. Yes a couple of times we thought someone did but so far no. What I thought was a great motivational tactic that created a lot of buzz around here on who we thought would be the first ones to get the arrowhead, has turned into nothing. It's to the point now that the motivation it would had created is lost.

My thoughts were maybe after the first preseason game we would have seen some. No matter what Haley has said we all know that certain players already have the starting jobs. Matt Cassel,Branden Albert,Mike Vrabel and more. There are also some FA that have been very impressive in camp and preseason. So why not give the arrowheads to the some of the players we know will be the starters and throw in 1 or 2 of the free agents that have stood out and proved themselves, to show the other free agents that everyone does have a chance to make this team and they need to step up. But the time for this has gone, either we read too much into the arrowhead or Haley still doesn't think anyone on this team has earned it.

Croyle trade?

I talked about this in a comment on another post but I thought it deserved a full post. It has said that the Brandon Marshall trade is probably not true, but trading Croyle could work out well for us. More picks for next year or a player that could help this team now.

The Texans game never set well with me, why would Brodie Croyle have so many starters still playing with him on the 2nd team? Then I thought what a better way to showcase a QB for trades. Pioli and Haley could have planned this all out. You have a QB that has looked good in the off season, you set him up to be able to have a good preseason game, and then when the head coach is ask if he is happy with Matt Cassel he doesn't have much to say, even though every other time he has had nothing but praise for him. Then the media takes it from there, Articles come out about Croyle could take the starting job.

With the stories in the media you have other teams taking notice and Croyle's trade stock goes up. Is this some of the magic from Pioli we have heard so much about, we may never know but this could be very good for the Chiefs.

Croyle?

I have seen a lot of people buying into Brodie Croyle this year again. He has been given two full years to be the guy in KC, in 2007 Herm Edwards gave him every opportunity to be the starter. Trent Green is even on record saying that the competition for starter was stacked in Croyle's favor. Damon Huard still won the job . Huard and Croyle traded playing time most of the year because neither could stay healthy.

Croyle has started 8 games and played in 11 and had only 6 TD's and 6 INT's. He has shown he has an arm and can sometimes move the team down the field but he can't seem to get the TD's. He was given the starting job in 2008 and only lasted two games. Scoring only about 10 points a game will not get you far in the NFL,and not being able to stay healthy would worry me to have him as my back-up.

To compare with our other possible back-up QB, Tyler Thigpen has never been given starting QB reps in the off season in fact was the 3rd string so he didn't get very many reps at all. To play as well as he did from coming off the bench as the 3rd stringer is to be commended. He has problems with accuracy and is unpredictable at times but who knows how good he could be if he had the reps that Croyle has had.

As far as Matt Gutierrez, haven't seen enough of him but some of the fans in NE liked him.

Cassel QB of the future

I think most knew Matt Cassel would be the starting QB with Pioli giving up a second rounder and with the money he was getting. Cassel has had good coaching in Collage and in the NFL, he has had years to learn from one of the best Qb's out there, so here is to many great years with the Chiefs.

But a good question is what does this mean for Tyler Thigpen, he will be our back-up this year but after that. For a QB that didn't have the coaching that Cassel had and didn't have the luxury of working with Tom Brady, our 3rd string QB came in and did very good job with what he had work with. If Thigpen takes this time learning from Cassel and to practice it will do him wonders.

If Thigpen does well in the preseason and if they use him during the season for some special plays and I think they will, there will be some teams that will be looking at him. Would I love to have Thigpen as our back-up for a long time yes, but I think Pioli has his QB and if he shows what Thigpen can do, it could bring him some draft picks that he loves so much. It will be interesting to see what does happen, if Thigpen is smart and uses this time and not let it hurt his ego it could work our well for him and the team. We know Pioli is very smart and will do what is best for the team.
