Canal Street Chronicles Just wanted to congratulate CSC

Not only for your team destroying the Giants (for whom I cheer), but also for cleaning up your act. In 2009, I spent a lot of time dealing with trolls from here, and it was a pleasant surprise that the week leading into the game as well during and post-game, I deleted exactly zero messages/accounts from your blog members. I am unsure what has changed in this place in the last two years, but it was refreshing to see class from the Nawlins faithful this time around.

Cheers, and good luck in the play-offs, watching you play the 49ers and/or Packers ought to be great games.

Steve Young is a professional analyst, and nothing you say can change that opinion...

If you listen carefully, you might just hear an Eagles fan in the background who is annoyed at Ronnie Brown.

Big Blue View Well as promised

I picked the Eagles in the pick 'em, and I said if the Giants won, I would post a public apology. So, I apologize to the faithful of BBV, I was wrong. The Giants went today and out-manned, out-hustled, and beat up the Eagles, Winning it by a large margin of double digits. I was wrong, You guys were right.

I would add, I have never been so happy to wrong! G-MEN!

Big Blue View Celebrations After a Big Play

I have noted some interesting reactions from my fellow BBV members these past two days to celebrations after a big play. I refer to two plays in two different games on two different days, and I want to examine the reactions to both.

Play One: Desean Jackson 91 yard touchdown reception

Video

Jackson ends his run by turning around, and "Nestea Plunging" into the end zone.

Play Two: Barry Cofield sack versus the Vikings

Video

On a 3rd down, Cofield breaks through the line and tackles Vikings QB Tavaris Jackson, which he follows up by pretending to taser himself three times.

A comparison of the two celebrations

For Jackson's celebration, it lasted for perhaps 2 seconds at most, he immediately got up, and spiked the ball and walked away from the Cowboy players. Although he did technically start the celebration during the play, it is really no different than someone doing a flip into the end zone.

For Cofield's celebration, after he made the sack he stood up and pretended to taser himself not once, not twice, but three times, spending a total of 5 seconds on the field celebrating, finishing up as the Vikings special teams is out on the field for the punt.

Why is this relevant?

Simply put, the first play had a really mixed reaction from the regulars around here, ranging from "who cares" to "he burned them he has the right" to "he got flagged so he got what he deserved" to "it was absolutely classless, he should be disciplined".

For the Cofield celebration, I have yet to find one person posting anything other than "don't tase me bro" or a variation of "love the dance".

So, my questions are as follows:

  • How is Jackson's celebration any more blatant or heinous than Cofield's?
  • Is it simply a case of "homerism"... fans will forgive their own for any celebration while hating a bitter rival's player for doing so?
  • Are some celebrators given more slack than others? Cofield gets more slack due to his being a DT and not a flashy WR like Jackson?

Where do you stand on this?

Kind of like a choice between a punch in the groin or a kick in the groin. Pick who you hate less, and cheer against those you hate more.

Canal Street Chronicles I just wanted to wish your team well

Despite some of your esteemed members continuing to troll BBV long after the Saints had exposed the Giants as a mediocre bunch, I know the majority of you are classy fans. With that in mind I drop in to say good luck, and may the Saints make a deep run into the play-offs. Of anyone in the NFC, I think I want you guys to represent in the Super Bowl. So enjoy the week-end of no stress, watch some games, and then get ready to see some (hopefully) great football as your team and fans beat down whoever enters the Superdome.

Matchsticks and Gasoline Today is the day

Ownership meets today and will (amongst other things), decide the fate of the coaching staff. Who deserves to stay, who deserves to go? It seems that Sutter will be safe (deservedly or not), but how about the rest of the bodies that are in charge of an ailing team as the season went on (injuries are not the whole story), a regressing Kiprusoff, and a (so-called) Power Play?

Leave your thoughts or predictions if you like, but I guess we will know within several hours who will be in charge of the underachieving hockey team we know and love as the Flames.

Like this situation wasn't bad enough already, now it just gets a bit more complicated. He is such a pain, I wonder how teams can stand to even speak to this ass when it comes time to discuss contracts. It sort of reminds me of Sean Avery in the NHL, I wonder when the league or at least certain teams will say enough, and no longer deal with him.

Big Blue View Giants to allegedly sign Joe Horn

http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2008/12/exsaints_wr_joe_horn_to_visit.html

I honestly don't know what to say that... so I guess I will speculate that one of our WR is injured significantly. The alternative is that the front office is in a full blown panic attack.

Does anyone think it is a good idea to sign a guy who got cut in the preseason and expect him to be able to learn an offense TWO weeks before the play-offs? Not to mention he is the guy who pulled that cell phone on us a few years ago, and I thought that was pretty classless myself.
