Luxembourg live-ish: stage 2
Did you flirt with your barrista? Did he look like a pro cyclist? What did he serve you? Does your airport have wifi? Tell us all about it here, cause this is going to be another boring stage. Flat again, so we all know who's going to win this. The guy won 4 races in 9 days time, but you won't hear me complaining...VDS baby!

Luxembourg live-ish: stage 1
Jimmy Engoulvent won the prologue yesterday, scoring me some nice VDS points. Today's stage is a bit up and down, but it doesn't seem too hard, so a bunch sprint seems likely.

Any sprinters present?
Feillu, Boeckmans, Apollonio, Sutton, Swift, Dumoulin, Petit, Casper, Goddaert, Greipel Van Genechten and of course André Greipel, who should be today's favourite.
Interesting fact: Luxembourg's next big thing Bob Jungels (he won Paris - Roubaix U23 and is a great time trialist) is here too. He finished 23rd yesterday at almost 13 seconds.

Trivia time:
1 Where's the picture shot?
2 Who's the dude riding the race bike?
3 Who's the girl riding the omafiets?
Waaay too easy for this crowd, I know.

I doubt anyone'll visit this thread today
Two SSR's today:
EDIT: Info below is updated
Mainly an SSR, but with names like Gilbert, Tony Martin, Greipel,... it can get interesting. Also watch out for tons of Belgian cyclocrossers.
Official site, SStage Profile, Startlist, Ticker
Bayern Rundfahrt:
Interesting names: Cancellara, Degenkolb, Dekker, O'Grady, Langeveld and Coppel. Watch out for Team Eddy Merckx-Indeland. They have great jerseys.
Official site, SStage Profile, Startlist, Ticker
Sporza will have viddy for the Belgian race, looks like we won't get to see moving images from the German one.
Enjoy!
Behold the next Roubaix winner!
This is Eddy De Vlaeminck, the pictures are made at his (Christian) confirmation.
There, you've just wasted a minute of your time again.
Also: according to some this isn't SFW unless you work in the porn industry.
People living in/near Limburg: got anything to do on April 25?
The Belgian national team is going to do a recon of the Worlds course in Valkenburg. They'll leave at 9:00 at the Europe hotel in lanaken (Koning Albertlaan 264 - 3620 Lanaken - Belgium).
On the guest list: Tom Boonen, Dries Devenyns, Kevin De Weert, Philippe Gilbert, Björn Leukemans (I don't think he'll show up), Gianni Meersman, Nick Nuyens, Greg Van Avermaet, Jelle Vanendert en Sep Vanmarcke.
Just so you know.

Hey cabròn: there's racing in Castilla y León (Live-ish)
It's Friday, so I guess some people will be interested in this short stagerace. No? and what if I say it's a VDS race? Does that get your heart beating any faster? Still not? What if I give you some participants: Coppel, Bol, Tiernan-Locke, Leenos, Michael Rasmussen, Taaramae, Moncoutié, Di Gregario... not bad, is it?
La Vuelta Castilla y León is only three days long this year, today is flattish and the next two days are more suited for skinny guys.
No live viddy it seems, but there's a Spanish ticker. I can live with that.
Smartass!
GP Denain - Porte du Hainaut Live-ish (Coupe de France - UCI1.1 - non VDS)
Anyone interested in this SSR? I have no idea actually, but since I have the ticker open, I figured I could create a fanpost too.
It's a flattish Coupe de France race. Périchon, Dumoulin, Demare and Vachon are currently leading the Coupe de France GC (they've all won one race), so Demare could take the lead after today because it's probably going to end up in a groupsprint. Last year Jimy Casper won here.
Who's riding today? Lots of small french teams, lots of sprinters. Much to my suprise Peter Sagan took the start too. He told the ticker-people he'd had a bad night of sleep, but he's basically fine after yesterday's crash. He also said he won't contest the groupsprint, he'll work for Ratto instead.
GP Pino Cerami Live-ish (UCI 1.1 – Non VDS)
This is Belgium, so we have lots of SSR's around here. Today: le GP Pino Cérami. Most of this race is on Walloon soil, but don't be fooled. This isn't al hilly Ardennes-type race. The 195,4 km course goes through the Pays des Collines and het Pajottenland, so it won't be as flat as the Scheldeprijs, but it's not exactly a hard race either. There are three hard hills in the Pays des Collines, but that's 100 km from the finish, so a bunch sprint is likely possible.
On the startlist: some fast guys (Chicchi, Ciolek, Fenn, Petit, Bazaev, Feillu, Bozic, Juodvalkis, Van Genechten, Van Der Sande, Kneisky, Bagdonas,...), some punchers (Kwitatkowski, Keisse, Terpstra, Iglinsky, Marcato, Amorison, Serry, Clarke, Eeckhout,...) and some guys who are training for Roubaix, but didn't ride yesterday (Hoste, Scheirlinckx, Van Hecke) .
Expect OPQS to control this race. They have the strongest lineup by far: Bandiera, Brammeier, Chicchi, Ciolek, Fenn, Keisse, Kwiatkowski and Terpstra. Vacansoleil and Farnese Fluo are pretty strong too.
Régional de l'étape: Jerôme Baugnies.
Weather: cold, grey and a bit of wind.
And most important: the live-ticker
Enjoy!
De Ronde thru broerie's crappy phone
As some of you may know, I was born and raised in Brakel. My parents have always lived (and still live) on the Valkenberg. Every year on the day of the Ronde, the entire family gathers there for a good meal and a first row view on the race.
Here's what I saw.

Handzame classic (UCI1.1 - Non-VDS) Live
I'm at work and I don't have much time this afternoon, so I'll be brief. Handzame Classic is a sprinters race in Belgium. It's a light verion of Gent - Wevelgem: they visit Heuvelland and climb some hills over there (Scherpenberg, Rodeberg, Kraaiberg, Mesenberg, Monteberg, Kemmelberg and Zavelaar). But in the end we'll probably get a complete peloton sprinting for the flowers.
The bad news: no video. The good news: a live ticker (in French)
Weather right now: nice and sunny, not much wind
Enjoy
I spy with my little eye
Something very interesting on the Sporza tv guide. Looks like the Belgian tv viewers will get to see the Strade Bianche race live for the very first time! How awesome is that!
If Sporza broadcasts it, a bunch of other tv channels will probably do the same. If not, there will be plenty of pirate streams available. You know where to find them. The broadcast will begint saturday at 15:00 CET. For those who suck at timeszones: that's the time when Belgian CX races usually start.
Maybe this news has been announced before. If so, I have missed completely and I apologise for this utterly useless post.
You know it's cobbles time....
....when you see team busses on your daily commute.
(Pictures by me - feel free to use them)
Quatar, Oman, Laigueglia, Tour Méditerrannéen, Algarve or Ruta del Sol... It's all fine, I'll watch the races (if they're televised), I'll look at the results,... It's all good, but it doensn't really get me excited.
But riding past the hotel where the Garracuda guys stay, well, that really, really got me excited. I don't need a swallow to know it's spring. When the pro teams arrive in town, that's the real start of spring!
Do all Dutch people have this kind of relationship with their bike?
Madison madness
Ever wondered what it would feel like to ride a madison race? This video gives you a pretty good idea. The rider had two camera's mounted on his bike. One looking back and one looking ahead. It captures the excitement and risky nature of these events pretty well. Oh, you might want to watch till the end....

Great news track fans!
There should be a live feed available for the last madison of the Ghent Six (I think they cover the last flying lap TT too). Live racing will start at 15:15h CET, but it's probably a good nidea to watch the cross first. Swich over to this feed at 16:45 because that's when the final madison (60minutes + 10 laps) starts.
The track in 'het Kuipke' is the shortes one in the world (166meters), which makes is very easy to win laps. The downside? Incredibly steep turns:

Nothing has been announced officially yet, but apparently Thomas Dekker is riding with the rest of the Garmin-Cervélo team on their training camp.

It's offseason, right?
Here's a video from a pretty good concert at Mellow Johnny's Bike Shop in Austin, Texas. Without mentioning 'it' of course...
A nice idea to improve CX coverage: a toy helicopter with a camera mounted
Inrng posted this hilarious pic on his blog.
Bad news from the Belgian cross scene too. The city of Ghent won't allow the Blaarmeersen cross aka Grote prijs De Gentenaar. Officially because of safety issues, in reality it's a fight between politicians. A shame
Top 50 under 23 (version 2011)
The German Cycling4fans website have made their annual Top-50 of the Espoirs. I haven't read everything, but looking at the list, It seems to me that the list is quite controversial this year.
Hepburn at 20? Cattaneo at 21? Ellissonde not in top 10?That seems waaaaay too low. Tosh van Der Sande seems a bit too high in the list,..... No Quintana or Chavez...
Go check it out and tell us what you think.
Wintertime = trainertime. Now with less bore!
If you ride your trainer a lot during winter, check this out. The application is still free now, but they plan to charge for it in a couple of months.
broerie's Worlds part 2: pedal to the medal
In the first part we saw how I got screwed by the Belgian national team in 2010. I did enjoy the race however, so I decided to race it again in 2011, this time in a small Italian village in the Marche-region. A race in Italy, that means an Italian organisation, and an Italian organization it was...

My Worlds part 1: Damn you, Belgian team!
Unfortunately I have plenty of time at hand now to write my Worlds story. Here it goes
Not only professional cyclists ride World Championships. There are also Worlds for different occupations. When you're a fireman, policeman, baker or paramedic, you can participate in the Worlds for your job. There is also a World Championship for the press and last year I rode that for the first time.
