Mile High Report A Cool-aid Drinker's 2012 Story (and 5 year plan + more)

What's up Broncos Country! It's been forever since I have posted on here, but I thought this idea I have would be fun to share with all of you.

First off, welcome to Denver, Peyton Manning! I am kinda scared that you are 36 with a neck history, but EFX was drooling over the thought of you taking this team to the next level, the Superbowl! Let the fun begin!!!

On a side note: I have been a fan of Tebow's since he was at Flordia. He was my favorite college player. And it was awesome that he was drafted by my lifelong team, the Denver Broncos! Your run here will NEVER be forgotten. The 2011 season will be special to all of us. We thank you for what you have done, and I hope you end up in a place where the management completely supports you 100%. Because you deserve it.

But let's get on to the fun stuff...this upcoming season!

Mile High Report Ahh...I love Draft Talk: MOCK 1.0

As the regular season comes to a close, the Broncos still have a chance of making the tournament.  But unfortunately, their destiny isn't controlled by only themselves any more.  Though this has been a depressing week, I decided to make this a positive week; looking at the draft and figuring out which players can help the Broncos improve next season.  With a little help from DraftTek.com, I have my first mock draft completed for ya'll today.  I go through the 1st five rounds only.  The 6th and 7th rounds are really based on best-player-available, anyway.

I made a trade with the Baltimore ravens to acquire the 21st, the 84th(3rd round), and the 148(5th), in return for the 8th pick in the draft.  Don't really care if that isn't a great trade or anything.  It's a mock after all!  But lets get into my picks....

Mile High Report McD Already Focused on the Chargers.  GOOD

I was just watching the press conference and I heard Josh McDaniels open up by saying, " First I want to give credit to the Chargers, coach Zorn".  I don't really think this means that the Broncos were overlooking Washington, I mean the offense was running great until the Orton injury.  I hope this only means one thing: McDaniels already has his mind on how to just totally destroy the Chargers.  I hope Orton plays next week.  The guy is a warrior and I really believe he will play.  Gotta believe McD will have something special for the Chargers.  We NEED this win.  Let's destroy the Chargers!

GO BRONCOS!

The Bears had really no intentions of negotiating an extension for Cutler during the season, but Jay's agent presented the right offer, and the Bears locked him up through 2013, and make him about $30 million richer.

Mile High Report NFL Re-Cutter

Hey Broncos fans,

I was laying around the house today, and an idea popped into my head. I should make a highlight reel of the game against the Bengals from Sunday.  So I had heard about this thing NFL.com has called the NFL Re-Cutter.  Now if any of yall aren't familiar with it, NFL Re-Cutter basically provides you with footage and helps you create your own personal highlight reel.   So anyway, I go onto NFL.com, and click on re-cutter.  But when I try to look for footage from this season, there isn't any.  Not even the preseason.  Is NFL.com done with this thing?  I thought it was a pretty cool idea.  Anyway, if anyone can tell me what is up with re-cutter, or has another site that is similar(because I'm not so good at video editing) that would be great. Thanks!

Mile High Report 4th and Long

Hey everyone, this fanpost isn't really related to the Denver Broncos, but it sure is related to football.  I just finished up watching the season finale of 4th and Long on Spike TV, and it was great.  I think it is a pretty cool idea having guys competing for a spot to go to training camp with the Dallas Cowboys, but it would be even cooler if it was for the Broncos.  Now if you haven't seen the finale, stop reading right now because I don't want to spoil it for you.  But here is my question to you guys if you watched:  Was Jesse Holley the right choice?   Personally, I was a big fan of Andrew Hawkins.  He kind of reminds me a bit of Eddie Royal.  Great character guy, who is small for his position, but just dominates anyone who steps in his path.  He is also a great return man and and excellent gunner.  It will be interesting to see where he goes, because this guy can play in the NFL.  Another question I have is:  If you were Brian Xanders, would you invite this guy to go to camp at Dove Valley?  I would in a heart beat!  He could battle with Lloyd, Jackson, and McKinely for a spot on the team.  So yeah, that's my thoughts on 4th and Long.  I can't wait for next season.  It was a pretty entertaining show.  Tell me what you think.  Did the Cowboys make the right call?

Mile High Report Draft Day(s) Analysis

Here is my analysis of the Broncos draft.  Enjoy!

Knowshon Moreno-RB:  At first I was hoping we would take Brian Orakpo, but then I started to warm up to the pick.  This fills a HUGE need at runningback.  None of the guys McDaniels signed in the offseason are true starting runningbacks.  Now we have the position stabilized for many years to come.  This will take the pressure off the passing game, and also open up the passing game.  Defenses will now have to respect the run, so Kyle Orton will not have to worry about the defense always thinking pass, like Cutler.  Sometimes the best defense is a running game. If the Broncos were able to run the ball effectively the Broncos would have been in the playoffs.  This will also improve the red-zone offense now that we have a guy that can pound through the defense.  Oh, and I forgot to mention, he is a good reciever as well.

Grade: A+

Robert Ayers-DE:  I like this pick a lot.  Ayers is very athletic and has the ability to play DE, OLB, and maybe even some DT in 4-3 sets.  He is probably the most veristile defensive lineman in the draft and I think that is why the Broncos chose him.  They are running a 3-4/4-3 hybrid this year, so they are going to need plenty of versitility.

Grade: A

Mile High Report HELP ME!!!

As the first day of the draft comes to a close, I have mixed emotions.  I would have liked Orakpo at 12, but I understad the Moreno pick, and I am pleased with it.  The Ayers pick was a good one, the Broncos were high on this guy so I have to trust he was the best DE available.

The second round was a disaster, in my opinion.  Trading away a first round pick for a corner we could have selected with the 48th pick.  There, we could have take Maualuga, Brace, or Brown.  Then, things seem to get worse when we take a safety I haven't even heard of before today.  It seems to me that McD is building this new defense from the secondary up.  I think we all know what happens when we do that:  2008 Denver Broncos.  I don't get it why we are drafting for WANTS not NEEDS.

Maybe I'm just disappointed  because I wanted a big name defensive player.  That didn't really happen.  So Broncos fans I ask you, what is the reasoning behind these last few moves?  I just don't get it.  I need someone to show me the positive sides to these picks.  Or else I think I'm going to break something expensive.

Go Broncos!

Mile High Report The NFL Rule Changes

I know this is a little off topic from all the other things that have been going on, but i just have some thoughts on the new rule changes made for the upcoming 2009 season.

The Brady Rule:  I am not a fan of this rule at all.  This injury that Brady suffered has been happening for years.  Why didn't they make this rule when Carson Palmer, or Donovan McNabb, or Trent Green went down?  This timing makes the NFL look kind of foolish doing this after the NFL golden boy, Tom Brady tore up his knee.

Another reason I hate it is that this rule is going to make players "think" instead of "react".  Football is a sport where you can not let up one bit, or you are going to get burned, and look like an idiot out there.  Defensive linemen will now have to stand up after being thrown on the groud to go sack the QB.  But by that time, the ball will already be flying through the air.  Why even have defensive linemen in the game anymore?  It makes no sense!

Lastly, rules are not being made to prevent players from other positions to get this injury.  Many runningbacks have sustained ACL, TCL, and PCL tears.  Should players not be able to tackle below the waist now?  No way!  Players know the risk they take by playing this game. They know that have the chance of tearing a muscle or breaking a bone.  And so do the quarterbacks!  No need to remove them from the rest of the players.

Windy City Gridiron Broncos Fan Here

Just wanted to give you guys some perspective from the other side.  First I guess I'll share my thoughts on what the Broncos got.

Kyle Orton:  Glad we got this guy in the trade.  Gotta love his neckbeard.  I'm sure that is one thing all of you guys will miss.  But I live in the Chicago area, so I watched a lot of his games last year.  I thought he did pretty well, being given Forte and the TEs as his best and pretty much his only recieving options.  Seems like he could do some damage in a system like McDaniel's.  He isn't as physically gifted as Jay Cutler, but you guys know, he gets the job done.

The Draft Picks:  I'm not going to lie, the Bears gave up a lot for Cutler, but I can see why.  Jerry Angelo has struggled drafting offensive talent, so why not give up some picks that might have been used on a potential offisive bust.  Jay is the best QB to come to Chicago since Sid Luckman.  These picks will help turn around our god awful defense.  That makes me happy.

Mile High Report Thoughts on the trade and Jay Cutler

Well as all of us know, Jay Cutler is no longer a Bronco.  We got 2 first round picks, a 3rd round pick, and Kyle Orton for him.  Not bad, in my opinion.

Orton (Neckbeard) and Simms (The Spleen) will battle it out to start at QB this year.  I wouldn't be surprised if the Spleen is starting.  The guy is tough!  Rupturing his spleen the first half of the game and finishing the game with it!   That is was i call toughness. Orton put up pretty good numbers with a bad team.  I would be fine with either of these guys starting this year.  Then I think McDaniels will take Bradford or McCoy in the draft next year if neither guy shows they can be the long term answer.  I would love McCoy here!  Go Horns!

Mile High Report Extending the Regular Season

Hey MHR, havent been on here in a while, sick with the flu :(,  but ive been hearing a lot about the NFL extending its regular season.  The most common scenario I have seen is adding 2 games to the regular season and cutting out a couple of preseason games. To form an opinion on this, I took a few view points into consideration...

From an Owner's View:  2 more games= MORE $$$$$$$!!!!!!!  More money means more money to sign players in a possible uncapped year.  But with 2 more games added to the season, players going to want a lot more money in their contracts.

From a Fan's View:  Yes!  2 more weeks of meaningful NFL football!  2 more sundays of sitting on the couch all day and watching sunday ticket all day long!  And most of all, less preseason games!  Life can't get any better!

From a Player's View:  Are you kidding me?!?!  2 more weeks of busting my butt?  This will shorten my career and my teammates' careers.  There is no way I'm going to agree to that.

I don't believe this will happen because I don't think the players will agree to this.  I just don't see how adding 2 more games would help them.  Owners would be dishing out more money to players, and players would be getting hurt more often.  In my opinion, keep it how it is.  If it aint broke, why fix it?
