2013 CBS Sports/NFL Draft Scout mock draft - Bills pick 2nd? (!)
Like most of you, I place absolutely no merit in mock drafts, certainly ones trying to predict a year in advance; entertainment value only. Still, with that being said, I must admit my eyebrows raised just a little when I saw where our beloved Bills were slotted...second? I doth protest, sir.
For the record, both CBS writers had us picking a QB at #2. One had us taking EJ Manuel from Florida State, the other thought Tyler Wilson from Arkansas.
This might be a good jumping off point for us to start making our (certainly more realistic) predictions for the Bills this year. As for me personally, I'm hoping for 10-6 and a wildcard birth. Y'all?
Jay Glazer reports that Saints would have offered a 3rd for Lynch?
Watching the Fox pregame show and Jay Glazer said that the Saints would have offered a 3rd rounder for Lynch, but the Bills never followed-up. Can anyone confirm this? If so, that would certainly be a black eye to the Nix / Gailey administration. Also doesn't help the Bills reputation among the league: the Fox sports anchor, after hearing the report, joked "...and that's why the Bills are still the Bills".
If I can find a link anywhere online I'll post it in the FanShots section.
Fantasy Poll: Who would you start, Evans or Johnson?
So, I'm treading water in my Fantasy League, but I am sorely lacking at wide receiver. How bad, you ask? Well, I'm considering picking one of the Bills' WRs off the waiver wire this week. Yeah, that bad.
Surprisingly (sarcasm), both Lee and Steve are available. They have a good matchup against Jacksonville. Evans is the supposed #1 WR on the team, but Fitz seems to have found a groove with Johnson. If you had to pick (and for your sake, I hope you don't), who would you start?
2-14?
The video link above does not directly reflect Peter King's SI print article in this week's issue, but in it, he predicts the Bills to go 2-14.
I am a realistic Bills fan, and as such, I am under no illusions about how (not) good we are going to be this year. Still, I think 2-14 is a little pessimistic, even for us.
Your thoughts?
Former Tampa Bay GM linked to the Bills?
If this is true, not sure why it's not generating more buzz...
...that is, if it's true.
"Buffalo: His players sang happy birthday to Dick Jauron on Wednesday, but that figures to be the last such celebration in Buffalo. The no-huddle offense hasn't been working, and Jauron was one of three head coaches who dumped his offensive coordinator during the preseason. Former Tampa Bay GM Bruce Allen's name has popped up with the Bills, but he may have other offers at the end of the season."
How the Pats view McKelvin's decision
From the article:
"The guy brought it out," Woods said, "and it was just like, ‘Wow.’ I didn’t think he was going to bring it out. He brought it out. Brandon made a big hit. I came in and poked the ball out.
"To me, personally, I don’t think our guy would have brought it out [in a similar situation]. He brought it out, and the rest is history."
Bengals' freshly signed rookie tackle Smith breaks foot
Yes, we had problems with our first round pick, but it can always be worse!
Poll: If Brady doesn't play, who wins our season opener?
So, I found myself wondering something as I caught up on some SportsCenter highlights this morning. Specifically, I am referring to the clip where Haynesworth lands on Brady's shoulder, which led to Brady sitting out the rest of the game and the typically tight-lipped Belichick saying little about Brady's "shoulder soreness".
Obviously, I do not wish injury upon any player, but any honest Bills' fan will admit that this would help the Bills' chances considerably. But then, a second thought immediately followed: given our history against the Pats, and given our less-than-stellar preseason performance so far, even without Brady, a Bills win on opening night is by no means guaranteed. Hence, my poll question...
Has any all-new starting O-line ever had success?
First of all, even this is my first FanPost, I have been a daily reader of Buffalo Rumblings since Panda-watch, and I can't begin to tell you how great you guys are. I agree with the "Brian for President" thread, and Brian, you should know that you consistently put the sports writing here in NYC to shame. The fact that you're a "Lost" fan only adds to your legend.
So my question--and forgive me if it's been discussed elsewhere--is this: has there ever been a situation like ours, where we will probably man all five O-line positions with different players than the previous season, that has had success its first year?
I know that Pittsburgh had a lot of turnover in their O-line the past few seasons, and obviously they won the Super Bowl last year, but if I remember correctly, their O-line was a concern all last season, and so they won basically despite their O-line, not because of it. I'm not sure if we have that same luxury.
Thanks in advance for any insight you guys can provide.
