Lute blasts former recruit Negedu!

In this story from rivals.com, Lute had some nasty things to say about former recruit Emmanuel Negedu. Among the things he said:

"I wanted him to have to sweat a little bit to understand that you make a commitment, you should be a person of your word," Olson told the newspaper. "But in the end, there was no way in the world I would have had him here.

Ouch! If thats not enough, Lute goes on to say:

Olson also told the paper it was "not hard" to release Negedu: "There were some things that came out about his coachability – or his lack of coachability."

Negedu's former high school coach readily disagrees about his coachability, but who knows what the real truth is. The thing that gets me is, why say anything negative about this situation at all? More fuel to the fire that started ever since Lute went back to work is what I think.

USC Coach Tim Floyd wants the UCLA/USC Basketball to Rival UNC/Duke.

Has anyone seen Andy Katz article over at WWL? This is the line I like the best:

"This is his goal: Make the Trojans into such a power that they can rival UCLA on a regular basis".
While I hold a passionate and unrelenting hatred towards all things $uC, I wouldn't mind seeing this rivalry become so heated as to have a national presence (I am sure they feel the same way about our football program). Oh, this is the line I don't agree with so much:
"Floyd compared USC's private school education, the lofty price tag to attend and the academic reputation to Duke".
Sorry Timmay, but the Cal State education one gets at Figueroa Tech is can't hold a candle to the education garnered from any UC school, much less Duke.

You can read the entire article here

Coach Ben Howland Gives an Update After First 5 Practices

You can read about it all here at: http://uclabruins.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/101607aad.html

This is the part I like best:
on Luc changing his shot

"He improved his shot by changing his stroke. He now has a much shorter, more compact stroke. Through proper fundamentals and lots of repetition. He did it, number one, through his efforts and hard work. We started in the spring having him shooting one-handed..."

Luc Richard with a reliable 3-point shot? I will bet you Pac-10 teams are shivering at the very thought. Just another example of how a player can improve under a good head coach. Instead of making the trip to Arizona to watch our pathetic football program threaten to embarrass the good UCLA name once more, I will be witness to a program running at full steam on the previous day at Pauley Pavilion (Nov 2 vs Azusa Pacific).

Sonny Vaccaro had some interesting news concerning Bruin Basketball.

This afternoon on the Cannons program, Sonny Vaccaro mentioned that he had lunch with Ben Howland. Howland told him to watch out for Russell Westbrook, saying that he is by far the most improved player on the squad.

He went on to talk about Kevin Love and how chiseled he looks. When Sonny asked him about his regimen, Love told him that "UCLA's weight program is the absolute best in the nation." When asked to compare UCLA's weight program to UNC's (whom he also strongly considered signing with), he said that there "is no comparison."
