Bruin football need more discipline...
I keep watching and watching, then I keep changing the channel to check up on the SUC game...
I don't have a big football strategy and coaching mind, so I will not second guess our coaching staff.
However, just as a regular football fan, I can't help but to notice that our football teams (yes, including Dorrell's) just doesn't seem to have either the discipline or the winning attitude...especially when you compare them to our cross town rivals. I know, I know they have a whole lot of talent and multiple star recruits...but we just seem to lack the winning mindset. It's not about winning and/or the patience.
It's just frustrating watching our players make careless mistakes (penalties, drop passes, fumbles, running the wrong routes, etc...)
I know we have to deal with injuries year after year. We are young. But we have seen many young teams in other conferences really step up and have a great display of discipline football.
I don't know if we need to push them harder. More practices. One thing I can't knock, and I hate this, is the discipline of a SUC football team under Tweetey Petey. He gets those guys ready with a great deal of precision. I know they drop little games, but in general, they are disciplined.
I'm frustrated with our "varsity" team always playing like the "jv" team...
Had to get my frustration out, now I'm better and ready for another game next week...
Franco...don't know what to make of this UCLA Commencement video
Found this video on funnyordie.com. It's Franco supposedly either poking fun at UCLA or himself regarding the commencement incident. I used to think Franco was an okay guy/actor. After watching this clip, not sure what to make of it or him, for that matter. Check out the video and post some feedback on what you think his intentions were for this video.
It seemed like sour grapes to me...in many ways...aren't we glad he never made it and we got an awesome replacement?
SUC basketball vs. UCLA basketball
I suppose I'm ready to get blasted for this one but I'm going to posted anyway...
After watching our narrow escape in the first round, our terrible loss against SUC in Pac-10 Tournament and SUC's destruction of BC anyone share the same feeling that SUC's new found aggressiveness and intensity seems to be what we had the last few years?
It seems like we are very tentative and overly cautious with a lead and overly undisciplined when we fall behind. Previous Ben Ball warriors showed no fear, up or down. This team lacks that fire. SUC's, and it hurts me to say, seems to be taking a page from CBH's style of play - pesky, intense, in your face, methodical, no fear, no lead is big enough and no deficit is too much to overcome...
I'm not saying they are better, but maybe because they have less to lose, their players are leaving it all out on the court every night. Our young frosh/soph players seem to panic too much whenever the opposing team puts up a run or presses on defense.
Something's missing from this team, I just can't pinpoint it...
SUC hogging the talent...
While SUC and Cheatey continues to rack up all this talent in their squad, I think it's starting to backfire. I think it's pretty clear that he's over recruiting all the talent to make sure that no other team will get them. I read somewhere that of their starting line up, compared to other top teams in the nation, at least 6-8 of them are NFL draft worthy after their first year. Compared to say Penn St., they will only have 1 or 2 players entering the draft with a legitimate chance. In other words, they're just hogging all the players, that's how they win...not just the good players that they have, but all the good players that they have that are not playing for other teams.
I think part of it has to do with CRN's new energy into the PAC-10. I mean, hiring coach has, for some reason, really stirred up the pot and the media is slowly starting to expose many of SUC's problems (violations, Cheatey's classlessness, SUC's academic problems...) Maybe even some of the smaller media players are starting to get sick of them.
Also, I remember reading or hearing the argument that SUC shot themselves in the foot when they over recruited all that talent. Leaving little local talent pool for the rest of the PAC-10, our conference became so weak (although we were 4-0 in bowl games this season) that all of SUC's conference games didn't help them much in the polls and whenever they lost, it was regarded as a big failure...
Then, there is the argument of how good SUC really is when they have more talent and NFL draft worthy players than any other team in the nation for the past 5-8 years and all they have to show for is 1 championship (and a million arrests and violations)...heck, Florida has what? 2 championships and maybe combined in those championship years they still haven't put up as many players in the draft as SUC can put in 1 year...Florida with only 2-3 good players has done more than SUC has done in 5-8 years with countless number of good players. If any college coach should be considered as one of the best, it should be Urban Meyer...not Cheatey Pouty Waa-Waa Shanchey fuc*ed up my plannies Petey...
So as Tina Fey said it best...
Trojans...you can SUC it!
