Antonio Cromartie in review
I was reading this thing about Janoris Jenkins and all his troubles and how he compares to Antonio Cromartie. That really scared many teams off. I was thinking, and I know that chargers fans dislike him for the jest playoff game and I hate him too, but he's not a bust. In fact if you think about it he's exactly what he was drafted to be, a very very good cover corner. That said he was not right for this organization and I'm glad we got rid of him. But he is doing relatively well for the jets and has even managed to hold onto his starting spot with 2010 first rounder Kyle Wilson supposed to easily overtake him. He would be the number one corner for almost any team but just happens to play on a team with Revis. I don't think it's fair for him to be called a bust at all he is exactly as advertised warts and all.
Do you think he is a bust?
A New Defensive Concern
Today when i was going through one of my many chargers fantasies of the day and I was imagining how amazing the team would be if AJ got a Nick Perry at 18 and a Harrison Smith at 49. Perfect world scenario right? All defensive holes plugged with good players. That's when I realized the potential major hole we could have.
Pass Rush?
L KENNY ROWE, OREGON
The buzz: There are no questions about Rowe's pass-rush ability. He arrived at Oregon with the reputation as a pass-rush specialist, and he flashed that ability often with the Ducks. He finished his career with 23.5 sacks, including 18.5 the past two seasons, when he was a starting end. But he weighs about 240 pounds and a move to linebacker was needed at that size. But there are questions about his ability to cover and also to hold up against the run at that position.
This was rivals.com's position on the leading pass rusher from the number two team in the nation last year. This seems like someone that the pass-rush needy chargers should take a look at. If you have a will to work and be tough you can learn to be a better run stopper and as a 3-4 OLB in our system, coverage is a less important skill. This is who I want AJ calling first thing to sign to training camp when the league opens for business again. Your thoughts appreciated in the comments below.
Players' Reactions to Osama's Death
I think Ryan Mathews and Nick Hardwick are very different people... with a very different take on life.
Seyi in Wilson out.
It looks like do to the very disturbing lack of wide receiver depth Ajirotutu will be active this week against the Pats, and LB Kion Wilson was placed on the IR.
Mathews?
Will Mathews play against the Cardinals this week? I know he thought that he was gonna play this last week and for some reason he didn't. Maybe because the coaches thought they didn't need him to win. We can see how well that worked. Anyways I really like him as a player so I hope he plays for that reason, and he's on my fantasy team. So does anyone know if he will?
The Rookie Review
Now that the 3rd and most important pre-season game is over I wanted to hear reviews of how the chargers rookies are doing. And who will win the camp battles or just any comments on rookies. Players that could be discussed after the jump.
Mathews is awesome
Today I went to the last public practice with my dad. I bought a Mathews jersey and then after I got him to sign it he was super cool about it and I hope everyone realizes what a cool guy he is. Anyways I'm kinda stoked about it. I hope he turns out to be as good a player as he is a human being. Does anyone know how big he is cuz he seemed seriously big to me.
Merriman?/Butler?
If Shawne Merriman is not going to come to camp, or if he but he isn't expected to produce, do the chargers have any interest in the bills recently release Aaron Schoebel? Also im seriosuly bummed about Butler being hurt. Does anyone know why he's out? is he on the IR or is he gonna have surgery and be placed on the IR? In other words is there absolutely no chance he plays this season?
Ryan Mathews
What should we refer to Ryan as because his name is kinda long and a bit of a mouthful. What should Ryan Mathews nickname be? Suggestions after the jump.
Roy Williams?
Besides Roy Williams name being in the news for having his pads dropped, he may have his name famous for his job being taken, both by Dez Bryant. The chargers have a need at wide receiver and I'm guessing Roy Williams would rather start for a team than sit behind a rookie. Why shouldn't the chargers trade for him? He's a young-ish big target capable of being a #1 or #2 wr. The chargers need him and he may just be available for a trade if he doesn't win his job. A.J. I hope your reading this.
Reggie Hayward
Reggie Hayward was just released by Jacksonville. He is a 6'5 275 defensive end. I realize the chargers have a lot of defensive linemen on roster but wouldn't it be worth it to bring him into camp to see what he can do. He's huge! He'd be great just size wise in a 3-4.
