This is currently the front page of uclabruins.com. We've given the Morgan Center a lot of deserved grief for their "promotional", but I think this one is really good.
Darius Bell switches to WR
According to Foster (and a few others) on twitter. Probably a smart move, since he clearly was no better than 4th on the QB depth chart. Hopefully he can make an impression
FSU destroys #3 UNC by 33
Not really sure where the UCLA angle is, but it seems like there's one somewhere (I guess this is the kind of loss that UCLA would have lately - if we ever get to #3 again). Safe to say this may be the most shocking score of the season.
OT - Student athlete screwed over by school and NCAA
This has nothing to do with UCLA but it's a story that I feel all college basketball fans should read. I took special interest in this because I actually know this kid (started his career at my school), but it's still an eye-opening story about how much control the NCAA and individual schools have over their players.
Bruins win "Class Act of the Year" from ESPN
"UCLA players -- This past Wednesday, after their final practice of the regular season was complete, the Bruins hoisted lame-duck coach Rick Neuheisel on their shoulders and carried him off the field. Neuheisel had been fired two days earlier after a 6-6 finish and a 50-0 loss to crosstown rival USC. As he was carried off the field, Neuheisel playfully spelled out "U-C-L-A" with his arms. But when later asked about the players' heartfelt gesture, he had to pause to compose himself."
Kyle Anderson to UCLA?
Gold is reporting that multiple other sources have said that Anderson is "UCLA's to lose". He's making his announcement tomorrow. Anderson is the #4 prospect in the country according to Scout. Haven't heard his name mentioned with UCLA much but this would be an incredible get.

Ayers struggles at the Combine
He also only benched 17 reps, which is low for a guy with his size. We all know that combine speed doesn't always equal football speed, but this could hurt his draft stock pretty significantly unless he can rebound at UCLA's pro day.
A look back at 2007 recruiting
With the recent unrest about the quantity and ranking of our prospects this recruiting season, I looked back at the most recent 4 year class (2007) to see how well the ESPNU 150 panned out. Notice anyone missing? Hint: His name starts with Brian, ends with Price, and anyone with half a brain knew he was a future superstar in college.
Just more proof that ESPN recruiting doesn't know a thing, so let's not get too worked up over rankings. Go Bruins.
"I'm not sure the Bruins will be ready for their close up come March, but by the start of next season they should be ranked in the preseason top five."
Westbrook Goes Nuts on Chicago
28 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists on over 50% shooting. Quite a start to what should be a terrific year for Russ.
Ireland's pre-game Texas prediction
Don't know if anyone caught this, but I just thought it was pretty amusing. Scroll to the bottom of the page and check out what Ireland predicted the score of last week's game to be.
Barnes to sign with the Lakers
Confirmed by David Aldridge's twitter here.
Good for Matt. He'll thrive in LA coming off the bench with Odom.
Farmar agrees with the Nets
3 years/12 million. per Ric Bucher through ESPNEWS. I wonder what this means for him and/or Devin Harris. Good for him though.
AA continues his solid play
Arron had another typical Ben Ball game today with 14 points on 6-6 shooting. His plus minus was +18, and just as impressively, he held Manu Ginobili and Roger Mason to 16 points combined on 4-17 shooting.
"It's been very poor coaching on my part to not recognize that (we needed to play zone) earlier," Howland said. "It's not something I want to do. But it's something we need to do in order to be competitive."
Howland steps up to his mistakes (insertions are mine)
Price and Forbath named ESPN All Americans
With 2 guys on the 1st team, only Florida and Alabama had more than the Bruins. TCU was the only other school with 2. Congrats guys!
Hey guys - not sure if anyone has posted this over here but I thought you'd enjoy it. Disclaimer - it's a rap song with some...harsh...language so the older crowd might want to skip it :)
If there were a stock car race between all the frauds, egomaniacs and two-faced weasels I've ever covered, Lane Kiffin would have the pole position all to himself.
Kiffin is a used car salesman with a whistle. Wait, that's not fair to used car salesmen. He ditched Tennessee for USC after just 13 games. The remaining five years on his contract, the players he left behind, the nine high school recruits who planned to enroll early, they all meant nothing to Kiffin.
Kiffin doesn't care. That's because Kiffin is about Kiffin. He sold Fords on Monday, Chevys on Tuesday. Just change the business card and the mailing address. His scorched-earth coaching policy isn't concerned with collateral damage.
All that bluster about beating Florida, and singing "Rocky Top" all night long? Nothing more than a Hefty bag full of Kiffin verbal garbage. All those recruiting pitches he made? Empty promises. (By the way, full disclosure: I'm a Tennessee grad.)
Whatever happens, it will take years for Kiffin to patch and caulk the gaping holes in his credibility. If you were a recruit, why would you believe a word he said?
On the December 2008 day he was introduced as Tennessee's head coach, Kiffin told reporters: "I want the Tennessee family to know this: This is what I'm going to give you. I'm rolling my sleeves up and going to work. I'm not promising you how many wins, how many championships. I can't do that ... but I can tell you this right now: No one is going to outwork us. No one is going to outwork me as a head coach and no one is going to outwork our staff that we put together. That's the promise I'm giving you, the wins will come after that."
All seven of them.
Some promise, eh?
USC doesn't care about (the NCAA). I think Garrett saw the recent ESPN documentary on Miami's football program and thought it was an instructional video.
"I just wanted everybody to know I completely disagree with his decision," Sanchez said, unable to stifle laughter. "Statistics show that it's not a good choice.
MJD selected to his first Pro Bowl
Congrats to Maurice, as this should be his 1st of many trips to Hawaii.
Sure, Rick Neuheisel and UCLA wanted to return to the postseason this year, but backing into a second-year bowl in the Northeast against a perennial doormat program isn't going to get the fan base too excited....Temple 10, UCLA 9 - ESPN's Will Harris
I know of a few (hundred) UCLA fans that are pretty excited about an east coast bowl game...
Texas Game next year in doubt?
Obviously, nothing is close to final, but this is still interesting. As great as the recruiting and exposure would be, I wonder if it would be better to get a slightly lower level team on our NC schedule. I'll be watching closely to see how this plays out.
Paul Richardson Re-commits
4 star wide receiver Paul Richardson from Gardena Serra verbally re-committed to UCLA. UCLA now has 17 commitments for the class of 2010.
Two UCLA Commits Named to the UA All American Game
RB Jordan James and K Kip Smith are both members of the white team. Potential recruits DT George Uko and S Deitrich Riley are also on the white team. No UCLA prospects are on the black team. Congrats to all of these guys.
Malcolm Jones Wins Gatorade National Player of the Year
Congrats to Malcolm...can't wait to see him in the blue and gold next year!
Thoughts on Butler and the Basketball Program as a Whole
Bumped. GO BRUINS. -N
Let me start off by saying that I don't believe in moral victories. Last night was closer than many of us expected, to be sure, but I don't consider that a moral victory. Nothing describing a loss should have the word "victory" in it. That being said, there were several positives - and still some negatives - to take away from the game. The team showed true heart for the first time all year, and there were definite glimpses of Ben Ball defense and of what the future might hold.
First, the positives:
1. This team is still 100% behind it's coach.
Now, this should be a given, seeing as it's 5 games into the season. But hey, coaches have lost teams before - especially teams that didn't have a major contributor returning from a previous, more successful year. After the lackluster Portland game - both in effort and execution - it was worth questioning how much faith our young team had in their coach. That question was answered yesterday.
Guys were diving on the floor seemingly every play - ND and JK in particular. RN was also throwing his body around without pause going after rebounds. Guys were taking charges and rotating on defense. This team still fully believes that they can win, and it showed. As long as they continue to trust one another, we'll see consistant growth from these guys.
2. Ben Ball Defense showed itself last night
Let me make something clear first: we are not a good defensive team. Yet. But one of the things that really caught my eye last night were the hedges and post double teams on defense. Yeah, sometimes the freshmen bigs rotated slowly out of the hedge, and sometimes the double teams were ill-advised, but at least the effort was there. The kids were really making an effort to learn and understand CBH's system. The execution has a way to go, but again, last night was about the effort the team was making to play Ben Ball defense. And they're getting better at it.
3. The Freshmen showed why they were top recruits
I think one of the dumbest things a fan can do is to judge a recruit after one season - or even worse, 5 games. None of these freshmen (with the possible exception of RN) are ready for Pac 10 play. But we saw glimpses last night of what they can all do (except TH and AS, obviously)
BL: Big body not afraid to mix it up, with range out to the 3 pt. line. When Lane puts on some weight and gets stronger, I think he could be a big time player. At first I compared him a bit to Keefe (and saw a similar comparison in the thread last night), but watching him it's clear how much more fluid his game is than JK's. He just looks smoother with the ball, and when he puts 20+ pounds on that 6-9 frame to add to his outside game, we could have a really solid player on our hands.
MM: Long, long, long. There was a play, I think middle of the 2nd half, where our offense broke down and the ball was rolling out of bounds. ML grabbed the ball and just flung in towards midcourt. It looked to be going way over everyone for a back-court violation, but MM just reached up and snared the ball out of midair with one hand. This kid has some serious length, and added to his athleticism and (possibly, he hit a 3 last night) a solid outisde shot, he could evolve into a superstar.
Another thing about MM - the kid gets it on defense. A few times last night he was guarding the point man on defense, and he was low to the ground, hands in the right position - basically saying, "you're not getting by me". He's got the right attitude, and clearly the physical skills, to be a lock-down defender under CBH's teaching.
RN: Nelson clearly gets the most PT out of the freshmen class, and for good reason. The man (not a kid) is a beast inside. He plays with an intensity in the paint reminiscent of PAA and LRMAM - taking charges, going through people for rebounds, etc. He picked up a couple over the back fouls last night, and forced a few wild shots down low, but showed a great motor and some solid post moves to get in those positions. If he can develop a jumper out to 15 feet he could be something special.
In terms of negatives, just about every negative I saw was matched with a positives. More after the jump.

CFN.com gives Kai some well deserved love:
...Kai Forbath is the MVP. A lock for the Lou Groza award, he has bailed out the Bruin offense.
Pat Forde takes a shot at Petey (emphasis added)
So, bloodthirsty Stanford (2) went for two against the shattered Trojans with less than seven minutes remaining and the score 48-21. Seems Jim Harbaugh wanted to hang half a hundred on Pete Carroll, the coach he's now embarrassed twice in three meetings. The two-point try failed, but Stanford scored again at the 2:19 mark to make it 55-21.
The Dash doesn't expressly condone running it up like that. But The Dash understands, having seen Carroll routinely engage in excessive scoreboard tilting when USC was capable of crushing its opposition.
Now that the Trojans are not, it's hard to feel sorry for them.
