8-7-1 The Jeff Fisher Story

It has recently become a debate on MCM as to whether Coach Fisher should be allowed to continue his streak as the longest tenured coach in the NFL. Some fans think he is one of the top five coaches in the NFL, others think he was but the game has passed him by. But was he ever really a top five coach? Is he really a top five coach today? Well the answer is obvious, No.

With a career record of 133-114, Fisher has a career winning percentage of .538(which happens to be the same as former Raiders and Bucs coach Jon Gruden.) But if you take a look inside those numbers you will see that without Steve McNair as his starting quarterback he is 54-57, for a .486 winning percentage. However, we cant hold it against Fisher that McNair was his quarterback so we have to allow McNairs career record as a starter for the Titans(79-57, .580 winning percentage) to count towards Fishers overall record.

I dont know if I can watch football this year.

Never before in my life have I not looked forward to the start of the NFL season. This year however, is different. With everything that has taken place over the last few days, I dont know if I can go back to that stadium. In August 2005 during a preseason game against the Bucs, as I sipped a semi-expensive brew my phone rang and i was notified of the passing of my father. I guarantee you no one used my tickets that season as I watched from home. The 2009 season has yet to start and I have so much emotion over this whole ordeal that I dont know if I can sit through a home game, or even a tv broadcast for that matter. With the tributes and the McNair jerseys out full force this year,
its going to be a constant reminder. #9 deserves all the respect that we can give him and more. But with all that has happened it will be near impossible for me to sit in LP Field and scream my ass off. Since July 4th I have been thinking a lot about McNair and how he sat in his retirement press conference and said that he was looking forward to his life ahead and spending time with his kids. All this thinking has made me come to one conclusion: football really doesnt matter. Its a game in life and thats it.

VY+CJ+Harvin=Wildcat?

This is something I have been pondering upon for a while now. I thought we had the right pieces to run the Wildcat last year with VY, CJ, and LDW but if we add Harvin to the mix it could be a MONSTER. I want to know everyones thoughts about it. Harvin or not, we probably would never use it. Would we? I know it is a college football style offense that goes totally against the grain of the ball control style we play. As far as stats, records, awards, and championships go, we already have the best college offense in the NFL. Minus a receiver. Wouldnt it be beautiful to see VY split out wide with CJ in the shotgun and Harvin lined up next to him. The ole fake draw QB reverse pass. I will have an order of that please! Its seems like VY would have more success passing out of this formation than any other. I know it is too unconventional, but VY has never been a conventional QB either. Does anyone else feel like in order for VY to be successful that we need to tailor an offense toward his strengths? I thought we would have built a package or two for him while he was riding the pine last year. It would have been a great added dimension to our offense in the playoffs or the perfect no huddle situation. If we keep adding blazing fast playmakers then at some point defenses will have to play VY honest in order to compensate. Then maybe he can get back out there and have some fun again.

Titans need more D-linemen? 13 isnt enough!

It seems as if most everyone is looking for us to go D-Line in the first round. Why? How good of a line do we need? Just listen to the laundry list of players we have on the D-Line. Kyle Vanden Bosch, Jevon Kearse, Jovan Haye, Jacob Ford, Tony Brown, William Hayes, Jason Jones, Dave Ball, Kevin Vickerson, Derrick Jones, LaJuan Ramsey, Charles Bennett, Ulrich Winkler, and Larry Birdine. Meanwhile, everyone that isnt screaming for a DE/DT is screaming for a CB. Im cool with a secondary player in the first round because out of the ten we currently have on our roster are we really going to be able to plug Tanard Davis, Christian Morton, Tuff Harris, or Cary Williams in and be successful against Peyton?
