Brown is old-school, charming, hands-off. His hellacious motivational rants are notably rare, and are directed, more often than not, at referees or other coaches rather than players.

But is he also just enormously lucky? Lucky in a way that excludes him from the more outstanding coaches of the game?

Is winning the only thing making Mack Brown a good coach? Or do the Longhorns win because he coaches?

If there was ever any question that DT is the strongest position in the draft this year, this announcement just ended it. McCoy's a beast, and would make a fine top-five pick.

ESPN: Georgia, FSU might hire away two top 'Bama defensive assts.

ESPN: We've already seen several assistants on the move in the SEC, some by their own choosing and others not.

The next could be Alabama assistant head coach/linebackers coach Sal Sunseri, who's being wooed by Jimbo Fisher at Florida State. They're supposed to talk this week.

Alabama may also have to fight off Georgia to keep defensive coordinator Kirby Smart. The Bulldogs are expected to make a lucrative run at Smart for their defensive coordinator job after Mark Richt overhauled his defensive staff last week, firing coordinator Willie Martinez, defensive ends coach Jon Fabris and co-coordinator/linebackers coach John Jancek.

I haven't updated this since after the Baylor game, so it's about time. Below are perhaps the nine most significant receiving categories at UT, and where Jordan Shipley stands in each.

Receptions:
Most receptions, game: Shipley already owns this with 15.
Most receptions, season: Cavil had 100, and Ship has 99 so far (one to tie, two to beat)
Most receptions, career: Big Roy had 241, and Ship has 231 so far (needs eleven to beat)

Yards:
Most yards, game: Shipley already owns this with 273.
Most yards, season: Shipley has this with 1292; Kwame's record was 1188 I think
Most yards, career: Big Roy had 3866, and Ship (now 3rd place all-time) has 2998 (needs 868 in two games). This is a long shot, although Ship will need only 35yds. to pass Mike Adams (3032) for second place.

Touchdowns:
Most TDs, game: McGarity has it at 4; hard to say whether Shipley will ever have a shot at this.
Most TDs, season: Big Roy and Sweed each had 12 in a season; Shipley almost tied it with 11 last year, and has 11 again this year (needs one to tie, two to break).
Most TDs, career: Big Roy had 36; Shipley has 31 so far (needs 5 to tie, six to beat).

He already holds three records listed above, although he might have some more obscure ones. Unless something unusual happens, Shipley will probably walk away with two more: season receptions, career receptions, and at least a tie for season touchdowns. He has an outside shot at career touchdowns, and is almost definitely out of the running for career yardage; however, he will finish second on both of those lists behind the great Roy Williams.

Good luck in the Big 12 Championship Game, and then the BCS Championship Game, Jordan.

Kameg said officers found Dunlap's car stopped at a green light.

"They approached the car and found the suspect slumped over in the driver's seat," Kameg said. "He appeared to be asleep. The car's windows were cracked so they attempted to wake him up. They talked to him and he would only open his eyes for a few seconds and then fall back asleep."

This could potentially cost him a lot of money and the team an impact defensive player for the conference championship and bowl games.

Hicks cancels USC visit

A snip from ESPN:

Hicks, the No. 2 prospect in the ESPNU 150, has had to cancel his trip to USC. Hicks' mother was unable to arrange a flight to Southern California, so her son called his trip off. Hicks may reschedule the visit for the weekend of Dec. 5. He has previously made official visits to Ohio State and Texas. He also has an official visit set to Florida for the weekend of Dec. 12. It is not certain if he will make an official visit to Alabama.

James will be heading to the University of Florida this weekend to make his first official visit. He also has official visits scheduled to Notre Dame the weekend of Dec. 5 and Ohio State the weekend of Dec. 12. He has not yet scheduled an official visit to Cincinnati.
So he made it to an Ohio State game and a Texas game, but apparently has no plans to catch an Alabama or Florida game if he makes an official visit. If he keeps his Notre Dame plans, he'll miss USC's last game as well.

Most receptions, season: Kwame had 100, and Ship has 75 so far.
Most receptions, career: Big Roy had 241, and Ship has 207 so far.

Yards:
Most yards, game: Shipley already owns this with 273.
Most yards, season: Kwame had 1188, and Ship has 1050 so far.
Most yards, career: Big Roy has 3866, and Ship (now 3rd place all-time) has 2756.

Touchdowns:
Most TDs, game: McGarity has it at 4
Most TDs, season: Big Roy and Sweed had 12 in one season; Shipley has six so far.
Most TDs, career: Big Roy had 36; Shipley has 28 so far.

If he were to get on a roll, Shipley could own almost every game, season, and career record for catches, yards, and touchdowns. The least likely are the career yardage mark (he’d need more than a thousand yards in five games) and the single-game touchdown mark. And this doesn’t even take into account any all-purpose records he might have.

So the career receptions, career yards, TDs in a game, and career TDs look like the hardest ones to achieve. Shipley looks almost certain to break all the others.

Texas-Baylor 2nd Half Thread Photo Recommendations

Janet Leigh has been an integral part of the Longhorns' success recently, but what if UT's just killing Griffin-less Baylor next Saturday? Let's have a few options on the table in case Janet gets next Saturday off for some reason, like maybe a 52-3 halftime lead. Some of my suggestions are below.
