New Iberia native, transferred to Georgia in the early Eighties, currently living in F.S. Arkansas. First Saints game in 1971 when we beat the cowgirls in Tulane Stadium. Saints fan for life. Quite a few Cajuns in area even before Katrina, more here now. Locals gave me my cajuncommando handle due to my fish n hunting prowess. The price of fuel and probably my age have really slowed me down but still go hunting and fishing every chance I get. Those are my main hobbies along with Saints following and gardening.

Just another useless observation...

This team is not the 2009 Saints. In '09 we started out 13-0, finished 13-3, and were pretty beat up. We needed the bye to get players rested and healthy. This team is largely healthy, abet...

Are the Saints the best team in the NFL?

+

With the exciting season this year, as they have been a juggernaut on offense, which is pretty standard for the New Orleans Saints organization since Sean Payton arrived in 2006, they have characteristically been a top 5 offense in the league. But they haven’t had a defense that has allowed less than 20 ppg since the 2010 season, when they got shocked by the Seahawks. This season, behind defensive coordinator, Rob Ryan, they have been amazing, especially with their underrated excellent pass coverage. Taking teams to another level of desperation when trying to put points on the board. So why do I think the Saints are the best team in the NFL this year? Because they have the complete package from top to bottom, they are 2nd in scoring. They play a nasty, physical defense, as they give up only 18/ppg. They have an obviously elite QB, who can make no name players relevant. And make good players great. The game plan they have now is potent and powerful, with a tight defense, and an overpowering offense, which is essentially the same style they played so well with the Super Bowl season.

Our Secret Weapon...PT Cruising...

Seven years into his career, New Orleans Saints running back Pierre Thomas still feels like a "secret weapon." "One of the most complete backs I’ve ever had the pleasure to play with," Saints quarterback Drew Brees said of Thomas, crediting him for his abilities as a runner, receiver and pass-protector. "He certainly does not get the credit he deserves around the league. Yet there’s not a guy that’s respected more in this locker room than Pierre." The statistical service Pro Football Focus has always recognized Thomas’ overall value. It has Thomas graded as the fourth-best running back in the NFL this year – and he finished ranked among the top four in 2009, 2011 and 2012 as well.

Speaking with the Dallas Morning News after Sunday’s loss, Jones admitted that the decision to fire Ryan isn’t looking too smart at the moment. "We thought that it was best for us to go in the direction that we are and that doesn’t look good right now," Jones told the paper. "Hopefully we can make it look good. But I have all the feelings that you have anytime you want to look back at a decision, and I realize when some of them work you have to have a few things go along with it, and candidly we’re having some of the same things that Rob had last year.

Atlanta Falcons disinfect locker room after hosting Tampa Bay Buccaneers

5

The Atlanta Falcons busted out the hazmat suits following the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ visit on Sunday. The Bucs have been suffering from a highly publicized case of MRSA – an absolutely gruesome, sometimes fatal version of a staph infection. Once the Falcons were finished dispatching of Tampa Bay on the field, winning 31-23, the franchise wanted to make sure all remnants of the Buccaneers were out of the Georgia Dome altogether – quite literally.

Owners pass 'Hard Knocks' rule at NFL Fall Meeting

5

A source in the room told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport the league passed a rule Tuesday that will compel one team per year to participate in the HBO/NFL Films joint "Hard Knocks." The league will still ask for volunteers. If one is not forthcoming, a team will be appointed. All organizations will be eligible with the exception of those with new coaches or those that have made the playoffs for two consecutive seasons.

RANK 4 3-0 SAINTS ^4 Here's a fun football question: How many wins is Sean Payton worth in a season? Three? Seriously, hit me up @Harrison_NFL; I'm curious to see if you think I'm overreacting. Payton doesn't coach the defense, but that unit sure is interested in playing for him and defensive coordinator Rob Ryan. Next up: Hosting the 3-0 Dolphins on Monday night.

Louisiana is the Drunkest State...

3

According to data gathered by Survey Monkey for Business Insider Magazine, Louisiana is the drunkest state in the nation. The same poll found that Americans feel Alabama is the ugliest state and Mississippi is the dumbest. Business Insider's Walter Hickey says respondents felt that we really like to drink in Louisiana. "You folks are the drunkest...scoring 11% of the vote," Hickey said. Hickey says the results of the survey were not only hilarious but also informative and are very telling of the dynamic between states. He says Louisiana also got high marks in other areas, "You guys had very good food..you were ranked just behind New York and California when it comes to best food in the nation. You folks also have one of the weirdest accents trailing only behind Massachusetts."

Move Over Tom & Peyton: Drew Brees May Be Best Quarterback Of His Generation

+

The conventional wisdom is that Tom Brady and Peyton Manning are the 1 and 1A of contemporary quarterbacks, with the debate over which one is best to carry on long after each has retired. But Saints quarterback Drew Brees belongs in the discussion. He may or may not be a better quarterback than either Brady or Manning. But to ignore his incredible credentials at this point is certainly a disservice: call it 1, 1A and 1B, in some kind of order. Much like Brady and Manning, Brees has consistently put up spectacular numbers. But here's the big difference: Brees, far more than either the other two, has also consistently suffered with the yoke of bad defenses hanging around him.
