Anderson, Ellis to DL; Cramer, Weeks called up
"The Oakland A's placed left-handed pitcher Brett Anderson (left elbow soreness) and infielder Mark Ellis (right hamstring strain) on the 15-day disabled list and recalled left-handed pitcher Bobby Cramer and selected infielder Jemile Weeks from Triple-A Sacramento, the team announced today. To make room for Weeks on the 40-man roster, the A's transferred Dallas Braden from the 15-day DL to the 60-day DL."
Let's play 2!! A's vs. slegnA, July 16, 2011
At the end of his blogpost about picking up the options on Crisp and Ellis, and declining the option on Chavez, Joe Stiglich writes:
One last note: The A's have scheduled a traditional doubleheader next season for July 16 against the Angels. They've shifted a July 14 (Thursday) game in order to do so. It's the first time the A's have staged a planned doubleheader since 1995. The first game will start at 1:07 p.m. with the second game to follow after a short break.
That July 14 game would have been the A's first game after the All Star break.
I'm surprised that this is being done. I'm not sure if this is the best for the A's players' [already fragile] bodies, but as a fan, I love the idea. My dad has lamented the disappearance of the classic doubleheader for years.
AN Day, anyone?

A's release Mike Sweeney
Wish he could have stayed healthy - sounds like a really great guy.
Natalie breaks 100m backstroke WR again
Coughlin became the first woman to break 59 seconds, just one day after she reclaimed the world record in the preliminaries. She touched in 58.97, locking up the first of perhaps as many as six races she could swim in Beijing.
Also, from the calbears.com article:
former Bear Jessica Hardy ... earned an automatic spot on the Olympic Team after finishing in first place of the 100-meter breaststroke finals with a time of 1:06.87.
